Chapter 62: Chapter 62

Inside a big mansion, two women sat cross-legged amongst six or seven other women. They were obviously anxious and excited. Though they tried to look less excited, it was still obvious.

One of the women who sat cross-legged looked very old while the other woman should be in her early fifties. There were various platters of silver designs on the table across them. The older woman's eyes were glued to a particular platter.

The silver platters contained sweets and fruits. But, the old woman was more concerned about the particular platter that contained a big coconut. It looked unique as it was placed apart from the other platters.

According to the Blood Moon Pack, the silver platter containing the coconut is used to welcome the new bride. The oldest woman in the family or the Pack, in some cases collects the coconut. She breaks a little hole in the coconut so as to extract the water. After she collects the water, she breaks it into pieces.

The old woman sat anxiously awaiting the arrival of the couple.

"Mother, why don't you relax? I am sure he is on his way here already", Mother Edmund said to her mother-in-law.

"Just let me be worried. I am eager to see my granddaughter- in-law. I wonder what she looks like", Grandma Edmund said dreamily.

"Grandma, how can you be thinking of a daughter in law you haven't even seen?", A young girl interrupted.

"Myrene, it doesn't matter if I have seen her or not. It doesn't stop the fact that she is my grandson's wife", Grandma Edmund retorted.

"Stop this already, Myrene. There are guests here. Don't keep running your mouth", Mrs Edmund admonished her daughter as she looked around the house which was filled with different women.

All the women were exquisitely dressed as if they were awaiting a party. Actually, they were awaiting the couple who were coming so they could perform the welcoming ceremony for every newly wedded woman in the pack. They also prepare a feast on the bride's behalf.

"Mother, why are you angry at me? If I were you I would be very angry at my brother for getting married without our consent. But, you all are here getting anxious and excited. You are even scolding me for speaking my mind. Come to think of it, If I was the one who did this, I am sure you would all disown me, right?", Myrene said to her mother.

"Myrene, I really don't have time for you today. Tell me, have you heard from your brother?", Mrs Edmund replied with a worried expression.

"All you ever care about is Rufus. Always Rufus this or Rufus that… am I even your child?", Myrene asked pouting.

"Myrene, you know how much I adore you. It's just that your brother hasn't gotten a mate yet and it's been dragging for too long. Even the Alpha had found his mate and he is already expecting a child. It is only right that we are excited about his marriage even if he didn't seek out consent", Mrs Edmund tried to coax her daughter.

"Yeah, he has all the right to do things that are against the family simply because he didn't find his mate on time. What about the Alpha? His uncle knew about his mate when he found her. Shouldn't Rufus have told us about his mate before he suddenly left? We almost thought something happened to him if Alpha Jax had not told us he went after his mate?", Myrene grumbled.

"Myrene…", Mrs Edmund said.

"You two! Stop your chattering. Myrene, call my grandson right now. Let me know where they are", Grandma Edmund commanded.

"Okay grandma", Myrene responded grumpily as she got up.

"Where are you going? I want to hear my grandson's voice", Grandma Edmund said, giving Myrene a look.

"Grandma, the signal here is very bad. I need to go out to make the call", Myrene tried to explain.

"I don't care, just do it here. I don't trust you. What if you just run off?", Grandma Edmund said, eyeing her.

Myrene was so angry but she suppressed her anger so she wouldn't be making a fool of herself. She knew too well how her mother and the women around would start with their admonishments. She doesn't have the strength to deal with them today.

As for her brother Rufus, she was happy he finally had someone but she wouldn't take it easy on him. She was going to collect her welcoming money from him and she is going to cut him a big deal.

Myrene smiled to herself. Ah! Her brother was rich and she won't spare him for breaking the rules. He broke the rules.

"What's happening? Why can't you get through to him yet?", Mrs Edmund asked, snapping Myrene out of her thoughts.

"Mother, I told you and Grandma that this place has no network signal. I am going outside to try", Myrene said as she quickly ran out.

Myrene tried calling her brother but it seems the connection was bad so she decided to wait for sometime before calling again. She wondered what was keeping them. They should have been here for long ago.

She took in the fresh air outside of the mansion. Outside was filled with fresh air. She walked to the balcony of their house. There was a huge apple tree planted here. Myrene walked leisurely towards the chair so she could relax.

Myrene stopped in her tracks as a scent wafted through her nose. It must be the smell of the lavender trees but there were no such trees here. She saw the lavender tree when she visited her grandmother in their family home. She loves those fresh scents.

But her grandmother's home is quite far from here. Could it be that her grandmother brought some oils here? But she wasn't perceiving it while in the house. She decided to drop the questions as her mind slowly wandered off.

She thought of when she will finally meet her mate. What would happen? Would she be stupefied or will she run away? Will her mate like her? She took a deep breath before walking towards the chair again. This time the scent became stronger.

"Hey Myrene! Shouldn't you be inside with the rest of the women awaiting your brother's wife?", Someone said behind her.

"Stay out of my way, Mason. It's none of your fucking business", Myrene answered without looking back.

She knew that voice too much. He had been pestering her since they bumped into each other last year at the college graduation. He was amongst the graduates just like her but it was surprising they had never bumped into each other all through their school days.

Mason had been pestering her to be his girlfriend and when she kept refusing him, he suggested they become friends. She reluctantly agreed. Since then, he had been clinging to her like an octopus. They always quarrel every now and then but Mason always comes back to apologise.

Myrene was at his birthday and Acceptance ceremony where the incident of the Alpha took place. She was against the way Aurora talked to Alpha Jax and she told Mason about it. She was surprised when Mason scolded her just because of Aurora. She got angry and left the party.

They mingled together but Myrene still acted aloof towards him. Myrene later found out all about Aurora when she accompanied her brother shopping. She later found out that Mason was Aurora's cousin. No wonder he flared up at her. But she was still angry at Mason.

"Hey! Why do you always shout at me? We are friends, remember?", Mason said with a smile.

Myrene took a deep breath before forcing a smile", I am sorry. I am just feeling agitated these days. Can you please spare me from your teasing tonight? I really want to have some fresh air".

Myrene turned around to leave but Mason held her hands as he drew her closer to himself. His face looked confused and… dreamy. It's like he is inhaling something refreshing.

Myrene looked confused and angry as she frowned deeply", Mason, get your filthy hands off me!". What do you think you're doing right now, are you trying to kiss me or something?" Myrene yelled at him.

"I am sorry, please. I didn't mean to do that. I…I just got carried away", Mason quickly withdrew from her. He was also looking confused. His wolf was howling inside.

Before he could say anything, Myrene raised her hands and slapped him hard. Mason was caught off guard as he held his cheek. Her hands hurts. He massaged his cheeks to lessen the pain. "How does such little palm of hers hurt so badly" he thought looking at her with widened eyes.

"How dare you take advantage of me?", Myrene screamed at him.

"What? I didn't and I already apologized, Myrene. Do you have to be aggressive towards me?", He responded quietly with hurt in his eyes.

"You did it intentionally…I—", Myrene tried saying but he cut her off, not allowing her Complete her sentence.

"I am sorry Myrene. Don't worry, I will never appear before you again", Mason muttered as he looked at her sadly and left.

Just at that moment, Myrene heard the voice in her head. She heard her wolf's voice loud and clear, howling and growling.

"You hurt our mate!!!"

Myrene was shocked as she stared at Mason leaving. Is he really her mate? Does he know too? Is that why he left or was it because he was angry at her?
