Chapter 84: Chapter 84

The street under the twilight seemed coated in a layer of gold dust, the fiery red setting sun still somewhat dazzling.

Lin Mo stepped onto the golden-red street, walking along the familiar path into Edgar's forge.

Even for a young and energetic dwarf, after a busy day, he was feeling somewhat tired at this point.

The customers in the shop were sparse, and the last few were about to leave. In a little while, it would be about time to close up.

Edgar put down the hammer in his hand and was just about to call out to the shop assistant to close the door when he saw a familiar figure walk in.

He was carrying a wine jug, which he placed on the counter.

"You kid, you finally decided to show up?"

Edgar tugged at his beard: "I've been waiting for three days!"

"Haha, sorry, I've been a bit busy these past two days... Didn't I bring you a gift? Bought from that tavern you like the most, top-shelf, cost 15 silver coins for this jug."

But he wasn't happy, instead looking at him with even more wary eyes: "You kid, are you trying to scam me again?"

These words sounded quite strange coming from the owner of a forge—not the businessman scamming people, but the customer turning the tables. Yet Edgar had indeed been taken advantage of more than once.

"Relax, I was broke before, how could I keep making you lose out?"

Lin Mo laughed: "Stop hiding it, hurry up and bring out the goods."

Edgar waved his hand and led him to the forging station in the back.

Hanging above the forging station were two daggers gleaming with a cold light.

"I saw you had daggers on you before... hmm, seems like you're missing one now."

Edgar glanced at his waist.

The missing one was left stuck in the Earth Bear's backside. Lin Mo had no intention of retrieving it for reuse; it wasn't a valuable piece of good quality anyway.

"I'll skip the small talk. Do you want these two daggers or not?"

"Want them? Of course I want them! How much?"

"Fixed price, 30 gold."

Edgar held up three fingers.

Lin Mo didn't speak, just gave him a sideways glare.

"You think I'm stupid? The raw materials only cost you 12 gold, and you want to make this much profit off me?"

"I added materials too, and isn't my craftsmanship worth anything... Fine, 25 gold, take them."

As he spoke, Edgar seemed to realize he was in the wrong and conceded a step first.

"20 gold at most, and I brought you a jug of wine, remember."

"I knew you kid were up to no good! Is this jug of wine worth 5 gold to you?!"

Edgar flared his nostrils and glared. Including the other materials he added, his cost was already over 18 gold. Selling for only 20 gold would mean he'd barely make any profit beyond hard labor.

"No way, absolutely no way! You kid really are treating me like a sheep to be sheared!"

"Then let's meet in the middle, how about 23 gold?"

Hearing this, Edgar fell into deep thought.

23 gold, while still a friend-price, wouldn't mean he earned too little. It was an acceptable bottom line.

"Alright then, you got a deal..."

The dwarf boss muttered, stepping on a stool to take down the two daggers and hand them to Lin Mo. "Remember to bring me more materials!"

"I'll think of you if I get any good ones."

The best material from the last mission was actually from the task Edgar himself posted. Other than that, there were the bones of the Bloodthirsty Wolf, but firstly, Lin Mo didn't kill that magical beast alone, so he couldn't decide entirely on his own, and secondly, Edgar probably wouldn't care much for the bones of a half-grown Bloodthirsty Wolf.

Taking out 23 gold coins and handing them over, Lin Mo waved his hand and bid farewell to Edgar.

The unlucky... sparring partner for tomorrow morning was already arranged. Alden had really helped him a lot with this. If not for his connections, Lin Mo wouldn't know where to find so many professionals to practice his skills with.

Everything proceeded smoothly. On the morning of the fifth day after returning to Roland Town, the last unlucky fellow helping Lin Mo practice was Alden, who was dragged over by his group of friends.

After tricking so many people one after another, they eventually ran out of victims. Turning around, they realized the mastermind himself hadn't "enjoyed" the experience yet—how could that be?

So Alden, with a mournful face, became Lin Mo's sparring partner.

Incidentally, since the first day, the reward Lin Mo offered had increased from 1 gold coin to 2 gold coins. After all, they were all professionals, so the expense wasn't unreasonable.

With the final clash of blades, Alden's sword was knocked right out of his hand. He waved his hands repeatedly: "I can't... really can't do it anymore..."

And at the same time, a message appeared before Lin Mo's eyes.

[Fortitude] Proficiency +1

Lin Mo cheerfully took out two gold coins and placed them in his hand: "Thanks for the hard work, Captain. Rest well, we'll see each other at the association this afternoon."

Around them, Alden's group of friends gathered with laughter, starting to tease him, and the whole group headed towards the tavern.

This afternoon was just for looking at missions; they wouldn't officially go out adventuring until tomorrow, so having some drinks was fine.

Lin Mo shook his head, found a relatively quiet restaurant, ordered lunch, and while waiting, checked the messages he had briefly glanced over earlier.

"Skill [Fortitude] Lv5 (180/180) leveled up!"

"Current skill [Fortitude] Lv6 (Max)"

Sure enough, as Lin Mo expected, the maximum level for a green, Uncommon-grade skill was indeed level 6.

So, as his first maxed-out Uncommon-grade skill, how many attribute points would it bring?

Lin Mo eagerly continued reading.

"Obtained attribute points: Constitution +3!"

"Automatically evolved into new skill — Resilience!"

3 points, indeed higher than a Common-grade skill.

"Comprehended Rare-grade skill — Resilience, obtained attribute points: Constitution +3!"

Another three points! His attributes were still growing!

A sudden burst of 6 points in Constitution made Lin Mo feel as if his entire body had been reborn. The fatigue from the training earlier instantly vanished completely.

But wait, there's more! There's more!

Soon, another line of semi-transparent text appeared before Lin Mo's eyes.

"Promotion conditions met. Obtained profession — Knight (lv1)"

"Obtained profession attribute bonuses: Strength +1, Constitution +4, Agility +1!" Read full story at novelFɪre.net

"Obtained profession skill — Knight's Heart!"

A series of messages dazzled Lin Mo; for a moment, he didn't know where to start being happy.

As he had previously anticipated, following the Warrior profession, he had obtained his second profession — Knight.

And with the attribute bonuses from the Knight profession, his stat panel reached a truly terrifying level.

[Profession]: Warrior Lv1, Knight Lv1

[Attributes]: (Outside brackets: Base attributes. Inside brackets: Attributes after profession bonuses)

Constitution: 15 (21)

A whopping 21 points in Constitution!

For a moment, Lin Mo even felt an impulse to stab himself to test his new toughness.

But before that, he should first take a look at the newly acquired skills...
