Chapter 219: Chapter 219
Lin Fan hadn’t arrived at Yunding Manor yet when he received a call from Anna.
"Master, I’m preparing dinner. Are you coming back to eat tonight?" Anna asked.
Lin Fan said, "Yes, I’m on my way back and haven’t eaten yet."
Anna replied, "Alright, I know."
When Lin Fan returned to Yunding Manor, Anna wasn’t waiting at the entrance as usual. She was in the kitchen, preparing dinner for him.
Since becoming the housekeeper of Yunding Manor, Anna had managed the place well, hiring the best gardeners to tend to the garden, hiring the best security guards, and even finding the best chef in Yun City to cook for Lin Fan.
Although Lin Fan rarely dined at the manor these days, whenever he did, the meals were always the best.
But tonight, Anna didn’t let the chef cook; instead, she chose to cook herself, perhaps on a whim.
On the dining table, there was wine and meat.
Lin Fan was a bit curious and asked, "Why the special mood tonight?"
Anna brought the food to the table and said, "I’m mostly healed now. Some activity helps with recovery, Master. There’s also soup coming."
Anna went back to the kitchen and quickly brought out a pot of soup.
"Master, may I sit down and eat with you for this meal?" Anna asked.
Lin Fan found it a bit strange but didn’t mind. "Of course, you worked hard cooking this meal, and with a beautiful lady accompanying me, who would refuse?"
Anna said, "Ultimately, you’re the master, and I’m the servant. In high society, servants aren’t qualified to dine with their masters."
Lin Fan laughed, "Though I’m your employer, I don’t see your status as inferior. To hell with high society, sit down."
"Okay." Anna was somewhat moved. In the world of the wealthy, Lin Fan was truly unconventional.
High society’s rules meant nothing to Lin Fan.
So, Anna sat down and ate with Lin Fan.
This was their first time dining together. Anna, usually reserved and aloof, hadn’t even cared to dine with Lin Fan before, but tonight she took the initiative.
She didn’t have to do it, but she wanted to.
"Anna, is everything alright?" Lin Fan noticed something amiss and asked.
Anna was behaving unusually tonight.
Anna paused and said, "Master, there’s something I want to tell you tonight. This might be my last night at Yunding Manor. After tonight, I plan to officially resign."
Lin Fan was taken aback, surprised: "Why?"
Anna said, "I can’t tell you the reason, and please don’t ask. Just know it."
Lin Fan sighed, "So this is why you cooked for me personally? Is this like a farewell dinner?"
Anna remained silent.
Lin Fan paused, then said, "What if I say I won’t accept your resignation?"
Anna smiled, "You should know, I don’t care if you accept it or not."
Lin Fan smiled wryly, indeed, what could he do if she wanted to leave? He couldn’t tie her down.
"Alright, though I admire your work, if you’ve decided to leave, I probably can’t persuade you to stay. But don’t worry, I’ll make sure your salary is settled. I’m not a boss who delays payment," Lin Fan smiled.
Anna said, "Thank you."
Anna picked up the pot of wine on the table, poured Lin Fan a glass, and then poured herself one.
"This wine is like a farewell for me. I toast to you," Anna picked up the glass and drank it in one go.
Lin Fan followed suit, finishing his wine in one gulp.
Anna watched him drink, a barely noticeable smile playing on her lips.
"Master, you don’t seem like a drinker. After one glass, your face turned a little red," Anna said.
Lin Fan replied, "I’m not fond of alcohol, but I think I handle it well enough not to pass out after one drink."
As he spoke, Lin Fan reached for the dishes, but his chopsticks trembled slightly, as if his hand lacked strength.
Anna said, "You claim you’re not drunk, but you can’t even hold onto your chopsticks."
Before he finished speaking, the chopsticks slipped from Lin Fan’s hand. His hands fell weakly, and he slumped in his chair, his whole body powerless, unable to move.
Lin Fan’s expression changed as he looked at Anna in shock, "What did you do to me?"
Anna calmly put down her chopsticks and looked at Lin Fan with a steady gaze, "The wine you just drank, I added a drug to it, making you temporarily unable to move."
Lin Fan angrily demanded, "Why did you do this to me?"
Anna said, "Because you’re stronger than me. If I didn’t do this, I wouldn’t be able to overpower you. I just want to ask you a few questions and hope you can answer me honestly."
Lin Fan regained his composure and said, "What do you want to know?"
Anna said, "Tell me about your background and the identity of Lin Beixuan. I want to hear the truth."
Lin Fan frowned, "You just want to know this?"
Anna said, "That’s right, you’d better not lie. If I find out you’re lying, I won’t hesitate to hurt you, so don’t hurt yourself."
Lin Fan laughed, "If that’s all you want to know, there’s no need to do this. If you asked directly, I would have told you."
Anna remained silent, waiting for Lin Fan to continue.
Lin Fan said, "If you’re so concerned about my background, you’ve probably investigated it already. Just as you know, for the past 21 years, I’ve been an ordinary nobody, with farmer parents and working as a deliveryman. Until I met my uncle Lin Beixuan, who gave me a fortune. I’ve mentioned this before, and you were there."
Of course, he couldn’t tell the "truth" about this matter, even if he did, it was because he obtained a system. Anna likely wouldn’t believe him; it was too far-fetched, and she’d assume he was mocking her.
Might as well stick with the fabricated "uncle."
After all, he did have an uncle who disappeared when he was young.
Anna said, "And Lin Beixuan, who is he really? Where is he now? How did he come to possess such a huge fortune?"
Lin Fan said, "I only met him once. He gave me a fortune and disappeared. I don’t know the answers to what you’re asking. I don’t know how my uncle gained such wealth after being missing for so long or where he is now."
Anna said, "Recently in Yun City, you’ve been spending lavishly, acquiring companies, buying mansions, luxury cars, and land, even establishing the Mortal Group, claiming you want to be the king of Jiangnan’s business world. Did Lin Beixuan instruct you to do this?"
Lin Fan said, "No, it was my own decision."
Anna’s face darkened, "You’re lying! You’re just a deliveryman. Without guidance, how could you possibly know how to do any of this?"
Lin Fan laughed, "Thank you for the compliment."
Anna was furious, stepping in front of Lin Fan, grabbing his collar, "Enough with the smiles, I said if you lie, I won’t be polite!"
Anna raised her hand, as if to hit Lin Fan.
Before her hand could fall.
Lin Fan suddenly said, "So, Feng Wanshan sent you undercover beside me, just to investigate my background?"
Anna was shocked, her raised hand froze in midair.
Lin Fan, he actually knew she was sent by Feng Wanshan?
