Chapter 26: Chapter 26

OPERATION ROOM

It had been over three hours since she'd been in the operation room— the doctors, on the other hand, kept on their toes vehemently to stick her soul down to her body. It felt like a journey without hope but then, they kept in good faith and fought with great determination.

“Got— it, the second bullet in her chest .” One announced with great joy.

“ Good... Check her line, see if it's stable.”

“ Yeah, it is....”

“ Great, let's keep our fingers crossed...so far so good.”

After hours of what felt like an endless battle, the operation successfully came to an end. Aims was soon moved to one of the wards, unconscious while they waited for her to gain consciousness. Mart, who had all along been waiting at the entrance, noticed the doctor approach from the room.

In a glance, he sped up to him. “ Is she okay?” He queried the moment he closed up on him. His pale and bloodshot eyes visualized his mourning.

“Yes...she's out of danger now but still in a coma.” The doctor had explained.

“ How long is she gonna remain in such condition?”

“ Can't tell for how long but let's just hope the situation changes soon.” The doctor pressed and Mart, with disappointment, washed over his face, sighed.

He had no idea what else he should do— it felt as if the whole universe was fighting against him, a mere mortal who had nothing to fight back.

“ Thank you, doctor, ~ can I go and see her now?” He asked.

With a nod, the doctor gave him the go-ahead. “ But try to put yourself together as well~ you don't look so well, yourself. You might break down if care is not taken.” He cautioned as he nudged him on the shoulder.

“ Thanks for the advice, sir— I will.”

The doctor greeted with a faint smile and left off to his office. Mart stared at his back as he faded down the corridors and spontaneously glanced back at Aims' ward. Just when he was about to go in, a voice called from behind.

“ Can I have a word with you, sir?”

Mart, who wasn't so sure of the caller spontaneously turned to the call.

“ Hi, I'm Sergent Mikel Baston from the police investigation department— I just wanna ask a few questions concerning the incident, if you don't mind. I won't take much of your time.” He requested.

“ Sure, sir ~ anything to help you out.” He said without a second thought. All he wanted was to bring the culprits to book.

“ Well, we'll like to know if you'll like to press any charges apart from the ones we already have since the primary suspects are already in custody .”

“ Yeah... I will do so.”

“ Sure~ your statement, Sir .”

After his statement, the police assured him and took leave of him. Mart watched as his back faded out through the doors— his eyes were pained with fury.

“ I'll make sure you all face the law with this, Vicky.” He cursed underneath his breath.

Beaten and worn out by the incident, Mart trudged away towards Aims' ward. For a moment, he paused~ his blank gaze fixed on the glass door as his eyelids lifted and fell involuntarily as if in a daze while he kept watch at the unconscious body of the one he cherished most.

“ How am I going to tell you this when you wake up.” He mumbled in thoughts.

As he neared the bed, his hand gently caressed her pale face— slowly, he kissed her on the cheeks. “ Please, stay with me...please.” He whispered to her ears as if she could hear.

AIMS' COMA

Everything seemed dark as in a long tunnel with no source of light at all. She trembled— with a steady, yet confused gaze, Aims wandered around.

“ Where am I...?” She mumbled but the words just echoed back to her and she flinched.

“ What's this place?” She observed.

A few steps ahead, she gasped. “ What's on earth is this place?~ It's so beautiful .” She whispered as she explored the astonishing evergreen garden which had greeted her.

There were so many flowers; different kinds of each that you could ever imagine. As she explored, a broad smile covered his face.

The flowers dazzled in their bright and beautiful colors; filling the atmosphere with their fragrance. Birds sang harmoniously from each tree— the sky, overwhelmingly blue, beyond imagination, and the streams and falls that flowed down the rocks were crystal clear~ so clear that one could clearly see his face through or even count its inhabitants.

She smiled with a deep breath, “ Such a breathtaking environment.” She expressed.“ This is so relaxing— never knew there was a place like this in our country. Why didn't mum and dad bring us her on our last picnic?”

Aims' thoughts refused to settle as she continued her tour. For hours, she strolled long, enjoying the serene environment. Just then, a thought settled in, which instinctively brought her to a halt.

Spontaneously, Aims' glanced around and for a moment, she found it strange. “ Wait, something seems off here.” She said. “ The place looks empty~ I'm I the only person here?”

She wondered since she never came across any being for the past 15 hours that she had been around.

“ Isn't this strange or it's just my thought.”

In a whisper, she mumbled. “... or should I go a little further?” She anticipated. It seem fun but then, curiosity about what lies at the other end of the stream kept calling unto her.

“ No, I think, I should rather cross over the stream. I'm sure there might be people over there.”

With that, she hurried over to the bank of the stream.
