Chapter 26: Chapter 26
“It has to be that good if you have that creepy ass smile on your face.” Face goes poker looking at her sitting opposite me as we enjoy the wind with our refreshment.
“What creepy ass smile?” Feigning innocence holding the boisterous laugh threatening to burst out. Of course I was having a smile, not a creepy one as she defines. Simply dwelling in my new fond memories of this morning.
“You know...that one like.” Imitating something close to a satisfied dicked down smile. Trust me; her face is far from what mine depicts. Puffing out air through her lips throwing her hands in the air actually bored of my feigned appearance.
“Okay you guys kissed and made up or I can say more than made up.” Giving me that sly once over assessment looking at me pointedly leaving the chuckles I held to escape. An obvious flush covering the soft layer of my skin. “Daddy blew your back out the way I see it. Quick question? Is the baby still safe, you know inside?” Crossing a leg over the other, she looks at me questionably.
Fed up with her teasing questions I pluck a grape throwing it at her, she dodge my throw laughing out loud creating my own smile.
“What do you think they are talking about in there?” Directing her face to our men talking in whispers with me following after her gaze.
Looking back to the water body, I reply. “Don’t know don’t care.” Really, I don’t.
I just want to relax and be taken care of. Forget about everything and everyone else and focus on the now with Elijah. To wake up every morning in his warmth then at night we explore the throes of the night. I just want for one single moment I see us like the everyday normal couple even if we are not. But here, this place makes it seems so building reasons why i have to seize my moment at this slim opportunity.
“Mmmhmmm.” She drawls having me looking at her through my lashes. Picking up her glass of juice directed to her lips she continues. “When are you coming home?”
“I am home.” Fact.
“I see.” Exclaiming like the deranged lady she is. I only feel for Lucien.
I see myself in no other home other than with Elijah. I don’t care how big or small the structure maybe, heavily fortified or just a simple cabin beach house; so far I am with Elijah, I am home.
“Have you gotten your dress for the ball?” Diverting the topic takes my mind to the presidential ball our family got invited to attend. As much as I am not yet ready for the
outside world and accepting Elijah in front of my Italian family. I have to do it, just one simple issue.
“Mr Insecurity won’t let me shop myself.” Huffing in disdain sucking her teeth hard.
“I’m sure he has good reasons.” Smiling, taking a forkful of fruit into my mouth I muse letting a moan out at the yummy goodness. She looks at me like I just slapped her muttering away.
“Crazy Italians. Well your date is secured at least.” Now that is my not so simple issue.
“Elijah leaves for business so I don’t know.” Not wanting my tone to sound bitter but it did. I don’t want to face all those men without him by my side, i need him to survive that night especially since the proposed date between Santiago and I will hold that night.
“Have you asked him at least?”
“I don’t want to impose.”
“Nia, that man will do anything for you. He is that crazy and by crazy I mean literally; not yet up to the standard of the other Russian.” Shaking slightly in horror as if damned by the mental image of Alexei. Her eyes meets mine worried. “I’m scared for my god son Nia. He will likely end up with the bad side of the Russian genes not the hot side.” At that I burst out in giggles creating a frown on her face arguing about how bad that will look.
“Good thing he has a god mother like you.” Sobering up.
“Lucky I right. Oh well there is my ride home.” Her eyes flit to Lucien drawing closer to our table. Kissing my cheeks, she makes a face walking to meet my brother at the distance.
“Bye Ella!” Flipping the bird at me as I successfully disunite the two of them from getting cozy in front of me.
“How are you feeling?” Smiling, my gaze shifts to Elijah looking down at me.
Playfully saying for the umpteenth time since this morning. “If you ask me that one more time I think our baby will pop out.” His lips twitch crouching low to my belly looking at it. Smooth Russian flies out of his lips exciting the nerves in my system as he communicates with our baby. Such a beautiful sight to behold. I wish I can scream out loud for him to know how much I love you.
“I love you too.” Huh? Did I say that out loud? Sheepishly looking away, a heavy blush heating my face. He grin standing up. “Come, the wind has picked up.” Rolling my eyes I place my hand in his leading us into the condo directing us to the room.
“I heard of the presidential ball."
Excitement grows in my heart. Maybe he will come for my sake.
“Will you come?” Hopefully, I ask watching him walk about the room to the closet changing into different outfit.
“If my flight is early I will come.”
“So it’s a no.” Dejected.
“Sonia.” He calls coming to sit beside me.
“It’s fine.” Fixing a smile on my face. My hand rise to his face grazing the small stubble forming giving him a rugged look. The feel against the palm of my hand titillates my flesh as I caress his jaw leaving a kiss there.
“Just come back to me. Us.”
“Nothing can stop me from coming back. Nothing.”
And I believe him. If he can win the battle against death to be with me, then nothing will stop him from being apart from me. His cold, daring eyes makes a dark promise he holds to his heart.
