Chapter 95: Chapter 95

Third Person's POV

During the party at Grim’s residence, Adam managed to sneak into the mansion.

Meanwhile, Lawrence was busy handling the security system, while Adam was on a mission to locate the secret entrance to the underground area beneath the mansion.

"Hey, still no luck finding the entrance?" Lawrence's voice came through the earpiece in Adam's ear.

Adam, frustrated with the bow-tie he was forced to wear, grumbled in response, "Do you have any idea how big this place is? If you're so impatient, why don't you come and help me out, you jerk!"

"If I come with you, who's going to watch the security system?" Adam retorted, imitating Lawrence's words silently.

"I can see your face on the CCTV," Lawrence teased.

Adam spotted a nearby camera, grinned, and cheekily showed his middle finger.

A faint chuckle came from the other end of the line, irritating Adam even more.

"Quit fooling around," Lawrence said with a laugh. "You're running out of time before the security system resets."

"I know! I know!" Adam responded. "But it's hard to do it while acting as waiter who..."

"Hey you!"

Adam's body stiffened as he caught the sound of someone calling out to him. He quickly swallowed, forcing a wide grin to spread across his lips, and spun around to face the person. "What can I do for you?" he asked with a polite tone.

The person who came up to him is also dressed in a black waiter uniform. He must be the head of the serving crew, judging by how he rudely spoke to Adam and furrowed his brows as he approached.

"A guest is asking for a specific wine," he handed Adam a small note. "Go to the wine cellar and fetch it. And don't you dare break it. Got it? It's probably worth more than your life."

Adam clenched the paper in his hand, forcing a smile. If it wasn't for their plan, he would shower this bossy man with curses and push his head down until it kissed the ground. He wanted to shout that he had enough fortune to buy him and beat him to a pulp until he couldn't run his mouth anymore. But, of course, all of these wishes were only in his imagination.

"Yes, I'll make a note of that, sir," Adam replied politely through gritted teeth. "Where can I find the wine cellar?"

"It's right over there," the man pointed with his finger.

"Alright, I'll get it right away." Adam nodded and walked away. As soon as he passed the man, the smile on his face faded. He silently mouthed, "F*ck you, you miserable piece of sh*t..."

"Wait a minute!"

Adam halted in his tracks at the sound of his name. He paused, took a deep breath, and turned around with a polite smile on his face. "Yes?"

"I've never seen you before. Are you new here?" The man asked, stroking his chin as he looked Adam up and down.

"Y-Yes, I'm new," Adam replied nervously, swallowing hard.

"Oh, that explains why you look so fresh," the man said in a friendly tone.

"Huh?"

"You're quite handsome. Meet me by the van after this, alright?"

Blinking rapidly, Adam hesitated before responding, "O...kay?"

With a giggle, the man walked away.

'What was that all about?' Adam wondered, confused. It wasn't until he heard Lawrence's laughter through his earpiece that he realized what was happening.

["Looks like you caught his eye. You might have plans later."] Lawrence teased.

Adam's face turned crimson as he yanked out the earpiece, untied his bow tie, and chucked it onto the floor. "Damn it," he muttered under his breath, shooting a fierce glare at the man who had just given him the go-ahead signal.

"Just you wait. You're gonna regret this," Adam vowed, his anger simmering down as he took a moment to compose himself. With a newfound calmness, he stepped into the wine cellar.

It suddenly dawned on him that this was the only place he hadn't thoroughly searched. As a child, he had always excelled at treasure hunts, effortlessly finding the hidden prizes. Standing amidst the wine bottles, he felt that same familiar excitement from his youth. His instincts told him he was in the right spot.

Adam surveyed the dimly lit cellar, estimating the worth of the wine glasses to be anywhere between $15,000 and $60,000. The room was secluded, shielded from any disturbances like noise, vibrations, or odors, and had excellent ventilation.

The temperature indoors was a chilly 50-60 degrees Fahrenheit, not quite freezing but definitely cold. As Adam's gaze fell upon the enormous painting near the glass cellars, he couldn't help but feel a shiver run down his spine.

"This is the one."

He quickly scanned his surroundings, ensuring that he was alone. Then, he approached the massive painting and reinserted his earpiece. "I've got a good feeling about this."

["What are you talking about? Are you inside the wine cellar?"]

Adam embraced the frame, grunting as he lifted it up and moved it aside. As he looked towards the North, a satisfied grin spread across his face. "I knew it, I've found it," he declared, his eyes fixed on the hidden door.

** *** **

Adam placed his hands on the blueprint map of Grim’s house, revealing, "I discovered the secret door to the underground room." With the dim lights casting a mysterious glow in the room, he pointed out the wine storage on the map, saying, "It's right here."

Brett and Lawrence followed Adam's gaze to the spot on the map. When they looked back at Adam, he continued, "But there's a catch. There's a passcode needed to unlock it, which is why I couldn't uncover what they're hiding inside."

Lawrence nodded in agreement, adding, "And the window to hack the security system is extremely narrow. One mistake, and our cover is blown."

The trio waited for Brett's reaction to their findings. Brett, lounging in his chair, drummed his fingers on the table.

Tak tak tak tak tak.

After the tapping ceased, Brett parted his lips. "I know of someone who can assist us."

He ran his delicate fingers through his platinum golden hair before letting out a rough sigh.

"But yeah," he continued, flashing a faint but meaningful smile, "I will do my best to convince him." Folding his hands and slipping them into his pockets, he rose to his feet.

With a slight turn of his face towards the two, a half sneer played on his lips. "Now, may I inquire something from both of you?"

Lawrence and Adam remained silent, anticipating the question Brett was about to ask.

"Why do we always convene our meetings in my house?" the young lord questioned.

Lawrence and Adam straightened up, ready to respond to the owner's query.

"It's because of Agatha," Adam proudly explained. "Her safety is at risk, so I prefer to stay here and keep an eye on her."

Lawrence raised his hand, uttering, "Same reason. I need to be here for my fiancee."

Brett let out a sigh and glanced around the room, a sardonic smile playing on his face. He clearly wasn't pleased with the sight of the two bulky suitcases. "So, is that the reason you brought your luggage here?"

The two men nodded in response.

The billionaire's mansion boasted six bedrooms for guests, ample space for maids, and a living room large enough to host a family of giraffes. But Brett hadn't built it for the sole purpose of accommodating these two men.

"Just so you know," Brett chuckled wryly, "my home isn't a hotel."

Adam and Lawrence nodded once more, their behavior polite and subdued in the presence of someone they disliked, solely to avoid being kicked out by Brett. It was all about survival instinct.

Adam, seemingly oblivious to Brett's concerns, chimly stated, "I'll cover my room expenses."

Lawrence, impressed by the accommodations, remarked, "Although this isn't a hotel, the rooms are fantastic! I'm excited to spend some money and stay here for a while."

Brett's lips curled up slightly at Lawrence's comment, his frustration evident. It wasn't just his expression that showed his annoyance; his patience was also wearing thin.

Despite Brett's clear warning, Adam and Lawrence appeared to be intentionally ignoring him, as if his words were passing through one ear and out the other without registering a single word.

Brett had no choice but to accommodate these persistent guests and provide them with rooms in his grand mansion. If he didn't rely on their assistance, he would have gladly shown them the door. However, Lawrence's connections and Adam's strength were crucial for executing his plan. Brett acknowledged their invaluable help in rescuing Agatha and infiltrating the Grim's residence.
