Chapter 87: Chapter 87
Agatha’s POV
When I was assigned the task of tempting the cold Lanceil Grim, my only objectives were to complete it and break free from my enslaving contract. However, things took a chaotic turn when I unexpectedly fell in love with the target. Now, I find myself questioning the true reason behind Brett's request.
"What does Brett stand to gain if I successfully seduce Lanceil?" I pondered internally, hoping for any clue that would help me make sense of my swirling thoughts. Unfortunately, my intuition failed to provide an answer.
This wasn't the first time I attempted to decipher Brett's motives. Yet, no matter how hard I racked my brain, I couldn't come up with anything. Perhaps, it's connected to a tale from a distant past.
"That could very well be the case."
After reaching that conclusion, I suddenly felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around and saw a tall man standing there. It was none other than my best friend, Sebastian.
"You seemed lost in thought," Sebastian remarked. "What's on your mind?"
"Nothing," I replied. "Are you heading out?"
"Yeah, I have to attend a review class. What about you? Aren't you coming with me? You've been skipping a lot of lessons," he complained.
I wished I could go out like normal, but I couldn't.
Considering my situation, I made up my mind to stop lying to Sebastian and tell him everything.
"First of all, I owe you an apology," I confessed. "Brett isn't actually my uncle."
I expected Sebastian to be angry, but his reaction was surprisingly calm.
"Yeah, I already knew," he admitted. "I could sense that you were hiding things from me lately."
He wasn’t my best friend for nothing.
“So, tell me. Who is really that guy?” Sebastian asked.
He leaned closer and whispered the next words.
"And why do you need to lie?"
"That..." I uttered.
“Excuse me,” a maid came and interfered our conversation. "Miss Agatha, sir Brett has guest outside the gate. I don't know whether I'll open the gate for him or not."
Brett is still sick and sleeping. I can’t just wake him up when he’s recovering. How did he get fever anyway?
“How can I decide for that? I am not the owner of this house,” I said.
“Sir Brett actually told us that if ever he's not around, we can ask you to decide,” the maid answered.
"Is that so?"
'I never expect him to give me the authority.'
Well, I also didn’t expect for him to tell me those words before.
["When I first started all of this," he confessed through silent sobs. "I made a vow to myself to embrace my dark side until the very end. I convinced myself that trusting others would only lead to heartbreak. But now, I can't help but think that maybe, if there's just one person who will stand by me until the end, then maybe I can find happiness once more. "So please, stay with me. Don't leave for Lanceil. Please."]
I couldn't understand that guy, I thought to myself. But if there's one person I struggle to read even more, it's myself.
Brett had purchased me as his slave, threatened my life, and instructed me to seduce a man. But why did I find myself holding his hand?
I gazed at my hand, which had instinctively reached out and grasped his as he fell into a deep slumber. I held onto it tightly.
Was it because I had become more emotionally vulnerable? Or was it out of pity?
I raised my head once again and directed my attention to the maid who patiently awaited my response.
"May I inquire about the name of our visitor?" I politely asked.
"The visitor introduced himself as Sir Brett's former brother-in-law," the maid introduced. "His name is Vincent."
As the maid mentioned the name of the guest, my eyes widened. If it were a cartoon, my eyes would have fallen to the floor.
Is that Vincent the same Vincent I know?
If so, then that would mean Vincent is Brett's brother-in-law.
Brett does have a sister. But I never heard that Vincent and Lanceil have another brother.
Could it be that... Lanceil's deceased wife is Brett's sister?
Suddenly, Sebastian interjected, "I'm familiar with Vincent."
I glanced at her. How does Sebastian know Vincent but not Lanceil?
Perhaps, the Vincent in question is not the Vincent I am acquainted with.
"Then, please let him in," I instructed.
The maid announced, "I will show him the way," as she made her way to the door.
"Who is Vincent?" I inquired of Sebastian.
"I've crossed paths with him before. He happens to be Brett's brother-in-law. A friend of my friend is also acquainted with him," Sebastian explained.
"What?" I was puzzled.
"In any case, I'm not fond of him," Sebastian remarked, clicking his tongue.
"What does he look like?" I probed further.
Sebastian replied, "He... resembles an eagle?"
"An eagle?" I repeated in surprise.
The Vincent I know possesses eyes as piercing as an eagle's. What if...?
"Here he is, Miss," the maid announced.
As I turned to look, Lanceil's younger brother entered the room.
IT WAS REALLY THE VINCENT I KNOW!
Instead of connecting the dots of Vincent’s relationship with Brett, the first thing I thought was hiding.
I looked around and saw a couch nearby.
In order to avoid being seen by Vincent, I quickly scurried away and concealed myself behind the couch.
Sebastian, who witnessed my actions, glanced at me and tilted his head, seemingly curious about my behavior. However, I simply placed my index finger on my lips and gestured for him to remain silent. “Shssh.”
After some time, I could hear voices entering the house.
When I cautiously peered out, I was taken aback to discover that the visitor was not only Vincent. The notorious gangster, Adam, had also come to pay a visit.
What kind of unexpected gathering is this?
Ever since the incident when Sebastian encountered Lawrence and Brett simultaneously, something went awry. Now, I couldn't help but wonder what unexpected events would unfold today.
