Chapter 59: Chapter 59
Agatha’s POV
He always appears in the most unexpected way.
**
“Excuse me.”
I looked up to find the owner of the voice who interrupted my conversation with Sebastian. Then, I saw a man in a gray suit walking toward us without hesitation.
The man’s blonde hair, who was approaching us with a wide stride, fluttered under the sunset. His eyes were looking at me intensely, and below that high nose, a sweet smile appeared. He was always beautiful, and that’s what makes him dangerous.
“I came here to meet Mr. Lawrence Lozeno. Are you one of his students?” My master, Brett asked.
‘Why is he here? Did he follow me again?’
I chewed my lips out of anxiety that Sebastian would notice something between Brett and me. I really wanted to keep Sebastian out of my deal with Brett. Thankfully, it seemed Brett had no plan of showing that he knew me.
“Professor Lawrence is here. Who are you?” Sebastian replied.
I looked quickly at Brett while holding my breath.
Brett gave his business card to Sebastian and introduced himself, “I am Brett Holmes, the owner of Holmes Finance Company. Mr. Lawrence was a business partner.”
‘Lawrence is his business partner?! Is this even a coincidence?!’
“I was trying to call Lawrence, but my phone died,” Brett said, showing his phone. “I can’t enter the campsite because it was fully booked. “If you are Lawrence’s student, can you call him for me?”
Brett glanced at me, I froze at the sudden eye contact.
‘Brett was sending a signal.’
“S-Sebastian,” I called and then looked back at my best friend. “You should go inside the site and call Professor. I will keep the guest here.”
“What?” Sebastian uttered. His suspicious eyes gawked at Brett. “Are you sure? I can’t leave you here all alone.”
“What alone? There are other people here,” I said, pointing to the people inside the convenience store.
‘I can’t leave Sebastian and Brett alone. I am willing to sacrifice myself rather than leave my best friend in the hands of the devil.’
“Fine,” Sebastian uttered as if he was forced to agree. “I will bring Professor as fast as I could. Wait a minute.”
Sebastian ran back to the campsite, and now I was left alone with Brett.
The wind passed gently. The familiar scent transmitted to me, and my heart trembled subtly.
“Was my acting good? He didn’t notice that we knew each other, did he?”
Brett sat beside me. I stared back. His persistent gawk was as hot as fire, I felt embarrassed and bit my lower lip.
It’s not been that long since we talked to each other through phone calls. But it felt like decades when the last time we saw each other. And it felt so weird because I could still remember the last thing, he told me that night.
[“I hate to think that you are really falling in love with Lanceil. Because if you do, I think I will ruin Lanceil’s life even more.”]
The tingling sensation I felt at that moment came back to me. Oh how I wished I was really sleeping that time! Then I wouldn’t need to feel so damn embarrassed and weird with Brett.
“Why did you come here? Did you follow me again?” My voice trembled as I asked him the question.
His eyes twitched slightly. He seemed quite surprised by my question, but soon, he laughed.
“You have a silly imagination there, Agatha. I didn’t follow you. It is just that I have an appointment with Mr. Lozeno and it happened that he was your professor. So, this is purely a coincidence.”
Coincidence my butt. That was the least excuse I would believe.
‘Does Brett know my relationship with Lawrence?’
“Who is the man you’re talking with before?” he asked.
‘He’s not talking about Lawrence. Was I overreacting?’
“That’s my friend, Sebastian,” I answered, avoiding his gaze. But when I glimpsed him and saw him smiling, my curious eyes gawked at him.
“You have a friend? That’s such a waste. I thought we are both loners,” he said while grinning happily.
The most manipulating guilt-tripping ever.
“So, you really came here to meet my professor? How did you two know each other?” I carefully diverted the topic.
“Don’t be shocked, my slave. But your professor is the owner of Heysome Mall. He’s really rich. Probably… as rich as me? Anyway, we’re on the same level. But I guess I am prettier than him. Yeah.”
I slowly breathed out after hearing his answer.
‘Brett doesn’t know anything. On the other side, Lawrence probably doesn’t know anything about Brett either.’
Which means…
‘I shouldn’t be here!’
“I forgot!” I said as I stood up. “I left my phone charging in the charging station inside the camp. I think I need to go back before it explodes for over charging. Good luck with your meeting with Professor.”
I stepped away as quickly as I could. But Brett held my wrist and pulled me back to my place.
“You can’t lie to the greatest liar, dear,” Brett said before he picked up he turned on his phone, which was supposed to be dead, and dialed my number.
*Notification rang*
My phone rang inside my pocket.
Damn it.
“I didn’t know that a pocket is a charging station,” Brett teased while laughing.
His eyes formed crescent moons. He looked like an angel carved in a cathedral. For a moment, I was captivated by his laughter, but I knew I should not be, so I shook my head.
“I… I don’t want to stay here with you.”
Brett gazed down at me, waiting for my words.
“I came here to enjoy my trip. Can’t you just give me time to relax?”
His eyelashes quivered while he looked at me intensely.
It wasn’t my intention to push him away, not after he told me that he was a loner. Looking at his sad eyes, my heart pounded several times, and I didn’t even know why I was feeling so guilty.
‘All I wanted was to avoid meeting Brett and Lawrence at the same time. Why do I sound like the villain here?’
“Okay. I’ll tell you three facts and one lie,” Brett said as he breathed out. “First fact, it is really a coincidence that I have business with your professor. Second fact, I know that you are here. Thirdly, I must talk to Mr. Lawrence regarding our business deal. And that one lie is…”
He leaned closer. Not breaking his gaze towards mine, a melting voice whispered in my ear.
“That I came here just to see Mr. Lawrence, that’s a lie. It was my excuse to see you because I think… I miss you.”
I could not say anything at all.
I felt the heat rising all over my body, and my blood was circulating quickly. My hands, which were clenching above my lap, felt the pound on my legs, which was weird because my heart was in my chest. Perhaps, it was pounding so much that I could feel the pulse in my veins all over my body.
Why would he miss me?
And why does it sound so genuine?
What is our relationship by the way?
A master and a slave.
I really wish he was only joking when he said that, but looking into his eyes, I could tell he was sincere.
‘Don’t be fooled, Agatha. You knew his secret,’ I said to myself and snapped out.
“Mr. Holmes?”
With a sharp breath, I looked back. Lawrence and Sebastian came together.
‘I failed to escape before Lawrence arrived. Sh*t.’
As if acting he had expertise in acting nice, Brett stood up and greeted Lawrence with a huge smile.
“Good afternoon, Mr. Lawrence Lozeno. I came here just like what I promised.”
I stood up and glanced at Sebastian. He was catching his breath as if he came from a marathon. [“Are you fine?”] he mouthed.
I wanted to tell him that I am not. But I am standing between my annoying entitled fiancé, and my evil master, so I could not send the right signal.
“I am really sorry that you have to come here,” Lawrence said to Brett.
‘Since I have no business here, I should go. Right? The faster the better.’
I tiptoed away from the two and towards Sebastian.
“I had a good talk with your student. Miss…? What is your name again?” Brett said.
Slowly, I looked back at him. He was damn staring at me, which means that the question was for me either. It makes sense because I am the only ‘Miss’ here.
I stood straight and forged a cough before answering, “M-Miss Agatha.”
“Ahhh, Miss Agatha,” Brett continued acting. “I had a nice talk. Thank you, Agatha.”
“You’re welcome,” I said, nervously, I felt like puking steel right now. “Then, I should go now. Have a nice conversation.”
I was about to leave them all but for PETE’S SAKE, SOMEONE HELD ME AND KEPT ME HERE! I mean, why can’t you all just let me go? Godd*mn it!
Who was it? Who pulled me back?!
“Agatha, that wasn’t the right way to introduce yourself,” Lawrence, who was holding my hand, said.
What does he mean? I introduced my name and that’s it.
When I looked back at Brett, I noticed him looking at my hand – the hand which Lawrence was holding.
His pierced eyes, devoid of any light, went back to Lawrence.
“Then, what is the right introduction?” Brett asked.
“She is indeed my student,” Lawrence said. “But she forgot to say one more thing.”
Suddenly, Lawrence pulled me closer, put his hand around my shoulder and…
“She’s also my fiancée.”
…said things that Brett and Sebastian shouldn’t hear. F**K.
