Chapter 104: Chapter 104

Third Person’s POV

After providing the evidence to the police and seeing his father and Ian Grim arrested, Mikhail returned to the company with a glimmer of hope. He longed to see Agatha safe and sound, and although he still carried guilt, he felt a sense of relief knowing that he could finally explain himself to her.

The truth had been revealed, and Mikhail was determined to be honest from now on. No more lies, no more excuses. He wanted to stand proudly in front of Agatha and apologize for his past mistakes.

Deep down, he knew that they couldn't be together again, and he mourned that fact. However, he found solace in the idea that he could finally look into her eyes, something he had avoided for far too long.

Mikhail couldn't make any promises about eradicating his feelings for her and moving on. That would be an incredibly difficult task, akin to finding a fallen earring in the depths of the sea. He wouldn't dive in and get drowned, but instead, he would embrace his shortcomings and accept that he would carry this emotion until his last breath.

As Mikhail made his way back to the company, he spotted Agatha and Lanceil on the other side of the road. Their expressions were so intense that Mikhail hesitated to approach and interrupt their conversation. Lanceil had mentioned Agatha's work as a maid, but there was something more to it. Mikhail couldn't help but suspect that Lanceil had special feelings for her.

What gave him this impression?

Well, it was the fact that Lanceil didn't hesitate to protect Agatha by stabbing his own evil father. The look in his eyes mirrored Mikhail's own feelings of jealousy. He couldn't help but wish he had the same bravery as Lanceil.

"If only I could be as courageous as him," Mikhail muttered to himself.

If he could turn back time, Mikhail would never leave Agatha's side and would stand up against his father. But dwelling on these "what ifs" was pointless now.

The traffic light turned red. Then, just like that, it turned green again.

He continued to stand in that spot, observing the two from a distance. The pounding of his heart drowned out all the surrounding sounds. Even if he did hear something, he didn't have the time to pay attention to it because his eyes were solely fixed on them and the approaching car.

Mikhail's expression turned into a frown.

Wait, a car?

His gaze fixated on the car speeding towards Agatha. It suddenly dawned on him why he had returned.

"Oh, that's why I came here."

Unlike his previous self, who was always hesitant, Mikhail found himself running towards the woman he had failed to protect before. It was time to be courageous, he thought.

On the other side, Sebastian had just retrieved his motorbike from the towed center and was making his way towards Agatha and Lanceil. Although he stood closer to them compared to Mikhail, his feet seemed glued to the ground when he saw the car approaching rapidly, like a cheetah on the hunt.

Sebastian's brain knew exactly what needed to be done - he had to save Agatha. However, his muscles seemed frozen, refusing to respond. Time seemed to slow down as he stared blankly, taking in every detail of the scene unfolding before him.

And then, Mikhail entered his field of vision.

Sebastian's eyes locked onto Mikhail, who was sprinting towards Agatha with incredible speed.

In that moment, Sebastian couldn't help but wonder what was going through Mikhail's mind as he ran. Did he consider the possibility that he might not make it? The thought lingered in Sebastian's thoughts.

It was because at that time, something clicked in Mikhail. He remembered everything and that's the answer.

For that brief moment, Mikhail seemed to forget all the pain he was feeling and instead, he reminisced about the beautiful memories he shared with Agatha.

The first time they laid eyes on each other.

The moment he finally confessed his love for her.

Their sweet, innocent kiss.

And most importantly, Agatha's heartfelt words, "I love you too."

Those vividly play inside his head before the car crashed over him.

Bam!

In an instant, he whirled around and the metal crashed into his body. His elbow collided with the windshield, and he somersaulted over the roof before being flung onto the road.

Time seemed to slow down, as if the scene was being captured in a movie. And when he finally landed, everything returned to normal speed. That's when the pain surged through him.

It was a different kind of pain, unlike anything he had ever experienced. It felt as if he had been pummeled into the ground. The sounds around him echoed softly in his ears.

With great effort, Mikhail forced his heavy eyelids to open.

He saw the sky.

The once blue sky now appeared as a vibrant purple, tainted by the blood surrounding his eyes.

And then, he saw her face. Her tear-streaked face as she cradled him in her arms.

He couldn't hear anything, but he could lip-read her words.

Mikhail!

Don’t leave me!

Stay with me!

Please!

Surprisingly, all the fear and pain disappeared. Mikhail experienced a happiness that he couldn't even fathom in the days to come. At last, he felt a sense of relief knowing that Agatha could forgive him for his lies and cowardice.

What did he promise before?

Yes. He vowed to give his life for the woman he adores. A smile appeared on his face while tears streamed down his exhausted eyes.

He didn't want to let go. He desired to capture the final glimpse of her. Would her tear-stained face be enough?

Indeed, it was.

He found solace in seeing her one last time before taking his final breath.
