Chapter 36: Chapter 36
Sitting before her was an elderly man who looked exactly like her husband though the older version.
Who could this man be and what was he doing sitting in front of her.
Could he be the one staring at her all this while?" She thought.
"Who are you and what can I do for you?" Galene asked the older man.
"Who I am, you shouldn't know for now but what you can do for me or rather what I can do for you, you should be concerned about.
"Here, if you want to know why I look so much like your husband and the things I have to stay, meet me there and do not tell your husband about this," he said and passed a piece of paper to her then hurriedly stood up and left, disappearing amidst the crowd.
Galene stared down at the piece of paper on the table, a strange address was written on the paper.
What the man said rang back in her ears. "Why did he looks like my husband and what he could do for me?" She thought staring back at the seat the man was sitting in minutes ago.
She picked up the paper and tucked it beneath her breast pad right under her cloth. She would take a look at it well when they get home.
Moments later master Damien returned to the hall and beckoned on Galene to get up.
He looked angry as he Swiftly grabbed her hands and stomped out of the hall.
Move the carriage and get me out of here" Master Damien said and the guard quickly started the carriage.
Galene looked into her husband's face, she wanted to tell him what the stranger said but he looked so enraged that she wasn't able to talk.
She just kept quiet and stared out of the carriage window for whatever it was that got her husband angry, it wasn't something little.
Master Damien wasn't someone who keeps calm when angry, she knew he was just trying to play cool and not shed blood because of her.
Whatever it was, Galene hope he sort it out before they get home because she wouldn't be comfortable sleeping when her husband wasn't in a great mood.
The carriage stopped abruptly causing Galene to move forward nearly hitting her head on the window.
"What is that?" Master Damien yelled and got out of the carriage, a huge mistake he made because a shrill cry of pain followed suit from his mouth.
Galene who heard her husband's scream quickly got down alongside the two warriors with them and the guard behind the wheel.
"My Lord!!!" Galene screamed out loud on seeing her husband lying in the pool of his own blood.
She screamed out again and ran to him, crouching down and lightly pushing him. A great number of tears pour down from her eyes as she wails.
"No my Lord wake up, wake up please what happened to you" she weep but the warriors wouldn't allow her to continue weeping and blocking their way from attending to their master so one of them drew her up and handed her over to the guard who held her tight preventing her from moving.
The two warriors walked to where master Damien was lying half-dead and turned him around to examine the cause of his fall.
A long sharp arrow was removed from his side almost closed to his chest but inches away.
He was unconscious but they could tell he was still alive. They both bundled him and placed him in a sitting position, one of them tore part of his robe and tied it on master Damien's injured side.
Galene sat beside her husband as one of the warriors sat at the other side Making master Damien in the middle as they both held onto him.
The other warrior sat at the front seat as the guard sped off returning to their clan.
They never saw the one who shot the arrow Making it obvious that it was a planned work.
Those who did that knew Master Damien was going to pass through that road and they had set a trap for him.
They'd planted a little boy to act as if he was being hit so master Damien would come out for them to fire.
It was a plan mapped out and perfectly executed. They had freed including the little boy immediately the arrow pierced the master.
The journey back home was one of the longest journeys Galene had ever seen.
Throughout the journey, she kept calling into master Damien, telling him not to die, to remember his unborn son and her, to return home, and be strong for his family.
She kept on holding his hands which were gradually turning cold as she kept on rubbing her hands on them to keep them warm.
Master Damien's eyes kept opening and closing at intervals assuring Galene he was still alive and even though he couldn't say a word, she kept on praying.
It took like forever to Galene before they finally arrived at the castle. The warriors alerted their members and they quickly sent for the physician.
Master Damien was taken to his chambers and all efforts to make Galene stay outside proved abortive.
She would stay with her husband, she would be by his side, she would never let her husband leave her and their unborn child, so she kept saying while wailing.
They begged her to keep mute if she wants to stay and she obliqued shutting her mouth but still whimpering.
The physician cleaned the wound and bandaged it, administered treatment to master Damien, and told them he was alright and should be allowed to rest.
They all left the room including Galene as they persuaded her to allow her husband to rest which she finally agreed to after a long time of begging her.
She came out of the room and collapsed on Diana's arm. Diana and the other girls had been waiting at the door.
They rushed to the chamber immediately they heard the news and hoping nothing wrong has happened to the master they all stood by the door waiting for news.
Diana held onto Galene who has started weeping uncontrollably. My husband Diana, he's lying inside there lifeless Diana I don't want to lose my husband" Galene cried out loud clutching her friend's arm tightly.
"Look Galene nothing would happen to him alright? He is Master Damien and he is stronger than can ever imagine so do not worry, he would pull through" Luciana consoled.
"Yes Galene stop crying, you're putting your son's life in danger by doing so, you need to be strong for both him and his father alright? Mariam said and they all helped Galene stand them took her to Diana's room where they consoled her till she slept off.
DREAMLAND...
Galene found herself in an old castle. Servants and guards all move about doing one thing or the other.
She stood in the middle of the vast castle staring at the building, "Galene" a voice called out, she turned but saw no one.
"Come on Galene look up," the voice said and she looked up to see a little boy sitting on a rock talking to an old man.
She began walking towards them and before she could get to them, the little boy ran out with a sword given to him by that man.
She stopped walking and hid behind a flower as two men walked to the old man.
One from behind and the other from the front. The one in the front was talking to the old man when suddenly the one at the back pushed a sword into the old man's belly and ran off.
The one standing in front of the man noticed what happened and chased after the old man.
Galene was about to rush to the old man when the little boy appeared and she decided to stay in hiding.
The boy began shaking the old man and suddenly removed the sword and ran after the man who didn't kill the old man.
The one who killed the old man ran in the opposite direction but none of them saw him escape except her.
Galene trotted forward towards the old man but on getting to him, the man was no longer old, but instead her husband master Damien was the one laying in his pool of blood.
The old castle wasn't there anymore rather a lonely road with no one around.
Galene screamed for help but no one was coming forth. She tried carrying up her husband but she couldn't.
Galene continued shouting for help and all of a sudden Lydia came out from nowhere.
"Lydia thank you for coming, please help me my husband is dying, I need your help to take him to a physician" Galene pleaded but Lydia burst out laughing.
"When you came into the castle as a slave, you thought you could use your beauty to lure the master to yourself which you successfully did.
Many of us wanted the master but he chose you instead. Do you think I ever liked you? Of course not I hated you so much and wanted you dead and out of the way" Lydia said and Galene's mouth hung open.
Why would Lydia say such a thing to her? Galene questioned herself still staring dumbfoundedly at Lydia.
She was supposed to be her friend, she trusted her and told them everything about her, she never in any way lured the master to herself, how the master fell for her was still something mysterious to her so why would Lydia be accusing her wrongly.
Galene looked up to Lydia, tears pouring from her eyes greatly.
"please Lydia, I did not try to lure the master with my beauty, please just help me save his life even if you hate me" Galene pleaded, her hands jammed together begging Lydia for help.
"Why should I help him? So you can continue having him to yourself alone right? Let me tell you now, he would die and since I can't have him then you too can't" Lydia shrieked and started dragging Galene away from master Damien.
Galene screamed, fighting back but it seems Lydia's strength was double of hers. She was getting away from her husband and he would die if he ever leaves her side.
"Leave me alone Lydia, it's ok if you don't want to help me, just let me be with my husband and even if he has to die, let him die in my hands" Galene begged, her tears soaking her cloth.
Lydia ignored her and continued dragging her then suddenly, a force hit Lydia, throwing her far away from Galene.
Galene stood up and rushed back to where her husband lay before only to see a piece of paper with an address inscribed on it and no sign of her husband.
"No, nooooo!!! My Lord you can't leave me, you can't leave me!!!" She screamed waking up.
"Calm down Galene it's only but just a dream alright calm your nerve down" Diana assured rubbing soothing circles on Galene's back.
"It's all a dream? Everything was all a dream except that her husband was still not awake and laying on his bed unconscious.
She sprang up and dashed out of the room ignoring Diana's call. She ran all the way to master Damien's chambers.
She needed to know how her husband was fairing. She needed to make sure he was okay and still breathing.
The guards on the door tried to stop her from entering but she gave them a dangerous glare that they instantly opened the door for her.
She got into the room and saw Robin hurrying out. She stared at her husband then back at Robin.
"Milady you shouldn't be here, the master needs a lot of rest and you shouldn't disturb him," Robin said and Galene frowned.
"If the master needed a lot of rest and no disturbances then why are you here?" Galene asked staring into Robin's eyes. One could think she was staring into his soul.
"Milady, I only came to undress him so he could be comfortable in his sleep" Robin replied and Galene's eyes darted to her husband to see he was out of the bloody ceremonial dress and in a new clean light robe.
She smiled and nodded. "Thank you, Robin, you have been a good servant to master Damien and I pray you are greatly rewarded," Galene said and Robin bowed.
"You can go, I would not disturb my husband, I just want to sit and watch after him" Galene assured and Robin nodded before leaving the room.
He closed the door behind him and Galene sighed and walked towards the bed and sat down beside her husband.
She took her hands to his forehead and it was chilly. Fear gripped her and thinking he was dead, she bent her head to his chest and heaved a sigh of relief when she noticed it was still beating.
She sniffed and gently raised his hands to her stomach, guiding it to massage her belly. An act he loved doing ever since she conceived.
His palm was equally freezing but she ignored it. After a few rubs, she brought down his hands and ran her hands all over his handsome face which had turned pale.
"Please come back to me my Lord, I cannot do this alone and I need you to be by my side. Our child needs you, the clan needs you, the people under you, all of them needs you so if you could just fight back your way, we would appreciate it" Galene muttered to him rubbing his forehead.
The door opened and the physician, the priest, the council of elders, and Robin Walked into the room.
Galene gently placed down her hands from master Damien's forehead.
Master Damien why now? Who did this to you?" One of the elders exclaimed.
Galene's eyes stared at them, what is the elder talking about and what does he mean by why now?" Galene asked no one in particular.
The thing is the arrow used in shooting master Damien was poisoned and I'm sorry but it would take a while for him to wake up if at all he would" the physician said and Galene heard a bang in her head. She staggered back and collapsed on the floor.
