Chapter 77: Chapter 77

Maezy walks into the room in a matching black dress and stiletto. Her neckline shows quite a large portion of her cleavage, as though only her nipples are covered. The hemline of her skirt also falls a few inches below the edge of her panties, making her look like a slut entering a bar. Groomed with heavy makeup, I can never picture how she looks with a clean face. And the more I can’t imagine how she became Kim’s mistress with her seductive aura.

“Miss Maezy, thanks for coming,” I greet her with a smile.

“Anything for James,” she smirks, her left brow arching higher than the other.

It’s Thursday once again, the day the fake guard at Kim’s prison goes on duty. And I can’t wait to tell him about my progress. Thus, I called Maezy and we agreed to meet at a coffee shop.

“When is your due date?” she asks, looking at my bump.

“It’s at the end of the month.” I run my hand immediately to my abdomen, tracing its contour.

“Good. That is closer to his appointed time.”

I furrow my brows as I try to fathom what she just said as the appointed time.

Maezy then bursts into a mirthless laugh and holds my gaze. “Do you honestly think that James has the patience to stay in jail for the rest of her life?”

“What do you mean?”

“Watch out. He will be there to hear your baby’s first cry.”

I felt my airway constricting. I have anticipated that he will send his men to take revenge on Kim and Zed, but I never believed he can find a way to escape. Security is extremely high on the premises and Japan’s technology is always several miles ahead. Although I have anticipated that James will use the same trick he does with the guards, I only take it half-heartedly.

Before I recover from my shock, Maezy’s phone rings. I peek at the screen and I see James’ name.

“It’s him,” Maezy says, handing the phone to me.

I glance at Maezy, expecting her to leave, but she doesn’t. Feeling hesitant to talk to James with her listening, I stare at the phone for a couple of seconds.

“Answer him. You’re saving us time this way.”

Seeing that she doesn't budge, I concede and nod, pressing the green call3rsR icon to accept James’ call.

“Babe,” greets James from the end of the line, “I’ve heard that you have inaugurated Jamella already.”

“Yes. We have officially opened it to the public, aside from running Kim Yuan’s cafeteria.”

“Good. Do you have any good news for me?”

“Jamella Tech is now technically owned by Mr. D," I tell him, reminding that he's the one encouraging me to accept Mr. D's condition. He doesn't care if he lose the company of course, because all he wants to see is Kim's downfall.

“Good. Anything else?”

“We launched the Writer’s Pad,” I inform him, although I can feel that he already knows about it. I even explain to him the features of the software and how it is going to rock the writer’s world.

“When is the wedding?” My heart sinks at his question. He doesn’t sound regretful of his decision. Nor does he speaks like a real fiancé who is hurting for this setup. He would have winced in pain at this question, but he doesn’t. He even looks like I'm just a neigjbor next door.

“After I give birth.”

He nods. “As long as he keeps on releasing new products every quarter, I don’t mind sharing until I see Kim’s company crumbling to the ground.”

My spine creeps at his word. My place in his heart is now getting clearer and I feel like an object he is using for his interest.

“Oh, by the way,” he adds, “I can’t believe you disclose Zed’s secret to the social media.”

I glance at Maezy and she laughs. I almost forget that she is there, listening. Perhaps, she is rejoicing at James’ indifference. Because I know it gives her hope that James will set his eyes on her in the future.

“I did it at Ella’s request, of course. And I even found some proof that Ella doesn’t know about,” Maezy butts in and James raises a brow on her.

“Explain,” he says, looking at Maezy.

“I found a way to let Dr. Vergara talk. Zed has been with him, even if he was abroad.”

My insides also start shaking because I’m sure such action has shattered Zed’s pride and dignity. Shaming him with his weakness was even not enough, I also even let Maezy release those pictures of Yen and him kissing in the car.

“What is your plan for him?” I ask. No one knows how much I have gathered to ask that. I know I break Zed with this secret, but this is the only way James will believe that Zed has no place in my heart. And the only way I hope for James to spare Zed from his cruelty.

“Words aren’t enough to describe the things I have prepared for those two eyesores,” he says, gritting his teeth.

“Kim and Zed are like chickens who have lost their feathers. How else are you going to punish them?”

“Oh, they will forget how to breathe.” James laughs as if torture and killing people are two forms of entertainment for him.

“Patience, babe. I’ll see you soon.”

I smile and rest my eyes on him, giving him a worried look. “James, whatever your plans are, please be careful. I don’t want my son to grow without a father.”

“Don’t worry, babe. No one will notice. My cousin’s surgery is already done. He will soon enter the jail to take my place. You’ll see, babe. He is my replica.” He laughs, his eyes sparking excitedly.

But my mouth gapes open, my expression turning sour.

“Aren’t you happy for me?” he asks, anger and disappointment clouding his eyes.

“It’s not that. I’m instead scared that you’ll go wrong in this. That move is too dangerous, James. What if your cousin sings out?”

James’ scoffs. “No, unless he’ll recall anything about himself. “

I look at him, my eyes bulging out. “What do you mean?”

James let out a devilish laugh, tossing his head backward. He then looks into my eyes.

“You sure remember how it was when you forget who you are.”
