Chapter 79: Chapter 79
JUNE
I stared at my phone, puzzled and scared at the same time. The text was so formal. It was unlike my uncle. He has never sounded this way.
And what is so important that he has to speak to me outside our home? Could it be about my pregnancy?
“What's wrong?” Mark came up behind me, startling me from my thoughts. I almost threw my phone on the ground had he not caught it on time.
He took the phone and read the message, creasing his brows in concentration. “When did he send this text?” he finally asked after what felt like an eternity.
“Just now,” I replied, trying not to think about the message and the meaning behind those words.
Mark returned the phone to me with a sigh, “Seems like there's something he wishes to speak to you about.” He tried to make it sound like it was nothing to be worried about.
“What if he doesn't want the baby, Mark? What should I do? I don't—”
“Shh,” he hugged me. “I will go with you tonight. You don't have to worry. I will always be with you.”
I leaned into his embrace and closed my eyes, tightly clenching the phone in my right hand.
“Now, where were we?” Mark placed his hands on my shoulders and made me face him. “Seems like there's one place we haven't been to!” His eyes sparkled with mirth.
“Where?” I asked, despite how heavy my heart felt.
“The park!”

I got ready for tonight. Mark went home to get something and would be back in fifteen minutes, which would be enough for me to get dressed.
I gazed at myself in the mirror, forcing a smile as I tried to tell myself that everything would be okay. I ran my fingers through my lustrous, shiny black hair.
Mark asked me to dress well tonight. That's why I'm putting on a mermaid curve blue strapless gown. I let my hair down, brushing it to perfection. I had on very light makeup, enough to cover the circles under my eye.
I dabbed my cheeks with some blush before I smiled at the woman looking at me through the mirror.
Compared to how I felt at the moment, I looked like a woman who had no care in the entire world.
You can say I have a 'fuck the entire world' look.
The moment I heard Mark's car horn, I wore my silver nude heels, took my purse and headed downstairs.
“Wow,” Mark whistled when he saw me. He took me in from my head to my toes before his mouth spread in a wide grin. “Girl, you are gorgeous!”
He got out of the car, and hurried to open the door for me, “After you, my lady.”
I laughed at the accent he used. “God, how did I ever get to have a friend like you?” I slid into the car, and he closed it with a wink.
He got into the car, “So, did he send the address?” He turned to face me.
“Yep,” I passed my phone to him. “He sent it a few minutes ago.”
“Mm,” Mark placed his hand under his jaw. “I see,” he passed the phone back to me before he started the car and drove out of the compound. “So, how are you feeling now?”
“Like shit,” I replied without missing a beat.
“You have a baby now. I think you need to watch your language,” he joked, glancing at my stomach before he focused on the road.
“What if he asks me to abort the baby?” I placed my right hand on my stomach, gently caressing it with a sad smile on my face.
“We have gone through this, June. You need to stop thinking in the negative. Should he ask you to do that, it means he's a bastard!”
I wanted to argue with his words, to tell him that Kristin isn't like that. But I bit my tongue and kept my thoughts to myself.
What he said is the truth. Should he ask me to get rid of the baby, it only means he's a bastard—the worst scum on Earth.
We drove in silence, with Mark looking like he was on the verge of ripping the steering wheel off. It was a wonder how he got us to the place in one piece.
He killed the engine, and turned to face me, “So, do you want me to go in with you?” He motioned towards the restaurant.
“No, I don't think he will appreciate it should he see you. Don't worry, I have my phone. I will call you should anything happen in there,” I smiled to reassure him.
“If you are certain about it,” he begrudgingly said, looking like he wished to convince me to take him with me.
“Yes I am,” I smiled at him. “Thanks for being such a good friend, Mark. You deserve the best,” I leaned down and pecked him on his left cheek before I opened the door and got down from the car.
Mark didn't say a word as I turned and headed into the restaurant. My legs shook the nearer I got there, and I tightly clutched my purse.
The moment I entered, I was met by a smiling waitress in a green gown. Her golden blonde hair made her look so much like Tinker Bell. All it would have taken were wings to complete the look.
“Are you Miss June?” She asked, smiling beautifully.
“Yes, I am,” I nodded, clutching tightly to my purse as my eyes racked through the restaurant. A few of the tables were occupied, but none of them happened to be my uncle.
“If you will follow me, miss.” She turned and headed towards her right, to a staircase I didn't notice when I stepped in.
“Sorry, where are we going?” I asked the waitress, looking around at the waiters standing at strategic places, waiting for orders.
“Mr Kristin is waiting upstairs for you,” she smiled, climbing the stairs.
With a sigh and a look around, I hastened after her, scared of what the night would bring.
