Chapter 49: Chapter 49

JUNE

It took less than ten minutes for Kristin to march to my room. He knocked thrice on the door and let himself in without waiting for my permission. Seems that he's aware I won't even do that.

He's dressed in the same clothes he wore yesterday, which means he either slept in that whore's house or went to a bar…

Well, that's not my problem. I don't care what he does with his life.

“June,” he called as he took a step towards me, only to pause when I narrowed my eyes at him. “Uhm… Doll… When did you return?”

He looked nervous as he ran his fingers through his hair, unconsciously tapping his toes like he does most of the time when he's super nervous.

I didn't reply to his question. Instead, I popped some fries into my mouth and slowly chewed on them, pretending as if there was no one in front of me.

“Doll?”

I slowly raised my head to look into his eyes, trying not to take in his wrinkled clothes and tousled hair.

What would it have taken him to change out of those clothes before coming to my room?

Is he perhaps trying to rub it in my face?

Pfft.

“June? Are you listening to me?” he asked, calling my attention back to him.

I blinked, frowning as I narrowed my eyes at him, “Why are you calling me?”

“I asked you a question.”

“Which I chose to ignore.” I took another bite of my fries, focusing solely on him.

He sighed, running his fingers through his hair with a look of frustration. “What's wrong with you?”

“Nothing,” I shrugged and took another bite of the fries. “I'm just hungry.”

He looked shocked by my reply. Probably, he was hoping for me to repeat my words of old. He's no longer my problem. I don't care about him any more.

“Were you with Mark throughout… throughout the night?” He almost choked on those words.

“Mmm,” I took another bite of my fries, acting like a spoiled brat. “Is there any problem with that?”

He gave me a long look before he shook his head, “I just wanted to make sure you are okay.”

“And do I look like I'm not okay? Tell me, am I bedridden?” I raised a brow at him, still taking a bite of my fries.

He sighed once more before he nodded, “I will be in my room. Should you need—"

“I doubt I will ever need something. At least not from you.”

To say he was shocked is a damn understatement. The expression on his face was a bit comical, I almost wanted to laugh out loud.

He turned and left the room without saying a word, while I didn't bother to look at the door as it clicked behind him.

I might look strong and sassy, but it feels as if my heart is breaking. Woah. Who the hell am I kidding? My heart has already been broken, remember?

I'm still trying to pick up the pieces without shedding any tears. I won't let him know how much I'm suffering.

Dinner was the same. He ordered a pepperoni pizza, and we ate it together in the sitting room while watching an episode of 'how to get away with murder.'

Kristin countlessly tried to start up a conversation with me, but I ignored him. I pretended like he wasn't existing, and that seemed to piss him off more than anything else has ever done.

“June, I was hoping we go for a walk. It's not too late. We can go to the park or—”

“I'm busy. If you wish to take a walk, you can do that... alone," I took a bite of my pizza and concentrated on the TV even though my attention wasn't there.

“Then, I will go on a walk with Edith. She seems to be less—”

“That's great! That way you will have a partner with you,” I slowly chewed the pizza in my mouth. “Send my greetings to her. One of these days, I would love to go shopping with her.”

As if.

I won't be caught dead going to the mall with that witch.

“June,” he turned to face me. “What's wrong with you? Why are you acting so… I don't even know what you are acting like!” He yelled, making it seem as if I committed a crime when all I did was give my consent for him to go on a walk with that witch.

“And you are not supposed to,” I drank from the bottle of Strawberry juice, not bothering with a cup because I didn't care. “It's always great to have Strawberry juice with pizza. The combo is the best,” I smiled and took another gulp of the juice.

There was utter silence as he stared at me in shock. He was stunned by the way I was acting because it's not normal… Well, as normal as I behaved.

Had it been before the confrontation last night, I would have flipped at the mention of that witch. But not any more.

“What has got over you, June? This isn't the June—”

“You thought you knew? Grow up, Kristin. I won't forever be that little girl you knew.” I rose from the couch and took a slice of the pizza with a bottle of my juice.

“June—”

“That girl who left last night is now a woman.” With a smile at him, I turned and headed upstairs, while he sat there, shocked by my words.

My mouth curled up in a smile when he called me, but I didn't turn. I continued on my way up the stairs without paying any attention to him.

Like I said before, I don't bloody care about him. I'm still too young to be hung up on a man who doesn't appreciate me. It's time for me to move on.

Though it will take time and some getting used to, I will eventually find true love in the arms of a man who deserves me. One that will treat me like the moon in his world.

That man isn't Kristin.
