Chapter 30: Chapter 30

JUNE

Though Kristin didn't speak of the conversation we had, I can tell that he hasn't given up on not accepting Mark. He made my favourite chocolate-sprinkled doughnuts and waffles. While he drank some juice, I opted for milk.

It has been long since I had those with doughnuts.

“What are you doing after school? I will pick you up at 3,” he suddenly said, causing me to snap my head up, shocked by those words.

“Me?” I peered at him. “I intend to go on a date with Mark. He spoke of it yesterday, but—”

“I'm taking you to the company with me this afternoon. There are things I need your help with,” he cut my words short without letting me complete them.

“Why today?” I took a bite of my doughnuts, slowly chewing on them before I washed them down with my milk. “We can do whatever it is you need my help with, some other day, but not today,” I checked the time on my phone to know when Mark was arriving.

“It has to be today. And not only that, but I'm taking you to school. Call Mark and tell him he doesn't have to bother coming over to pick you up. I will—”

“You don't have to do that,” I took a large gulp of my milk, “he's my boyfriend now. You shouldn't interfere.” I sternly levelled my eyes at him, challenging him to say something against those words.

“He's not your damn boyfriend. Don't let me return to the conversation we had last night. You are not dating him and that's final! I will never give you my blessings.” He gritted his teeth, looking like he was moments from locking me up in the house like Rapunzel.

The downside? I don't have any long hair to throw down to aid him to climb into the house.

“Fine. If you don't give your blessings, I will go over to my mother's grave with him and seek her blessings.”

Speaking of my mother's grave, I haven't gone there in years. The last time I went there was in the summer before I began middle school. Since then, I have been trying so hard to get on my uncle's bed that I forgot about anything else.

“You dare not do that!”

“Oh? Watch me do it!” I took one of my doughnuts, gulped the entire content of milk in the cup, and walked towards the stairs, still munching on the doughnut.

Kristin is a mean cook. Getting married to him means I won't want for anything, since he cleans and cooks at any chance he gets.

I got dressed in a blue skinny high-waisted jeans, which I paired off with an ox blood crop top that isn't too short. At the last minute, I wore my white sneakers and tied my hair up in a ponytail, letting only three strands out on either side of my face.

I checked my reflection in the mirror to be certain I looked good before I turned and left my room, taking my backpack with me. The doughnut I took had long been eaten, that was why I took another one when I came down.

“Are you ready for school?” he asked, giving me a once over, with his eyes stopping to stare at my partially-exposed stomach.

“Why are you naked?” he asked, clenching his fists a bit.

“Naked? You've got to be kidding me.” I picked my phone up from the table and stuffed it into my backpack just in time to hear the horn from Mark's car.

“My ride is here, Kristin. I will—”

“I will take you to school!” He grabbed me by the wrist and dragged me out of the house, taking one of his keys with him. The door clicked shut between us as he continued to drag me forward.

“Let go of me!” I cried out the moment I saw Mark's car. “I'm not leaving with you,” I tried to fight him, but it was fruitless.

Like the good boyfriend he is, the moment Mark saw us, he left his car and headed towards us.

“Mark, save me!” I waved at him, and he came over.

“Good morning, Kri—”

“You don't have to bother taking June to school. From today, I will be the one to take her to school and bring her back,” my uncle cut his words short with those words, looking so damned murderous.

“And what if I'm at school? Are you also going to place a camera on her to monitor her movements?” Mark asked in a sassy tone with his lips curled up at the side in a smirk.

“Don't you dare act sassy with me, young man!” Kristin growled at him. “You are not permitted to come to this house ever again. And don't ever approach my niece!” He made to tug me, but Mark held on to me.

“All these because we are dating? What is wrong with dating her? Do you think I'm not qualified to be her boyfriend?” He challenged, staring into Kristin's eyes with no visible sign of fear. He looked like he was ready to take him on should he try anything funny.

“Tell me, are you going to marry her if you keep other men away from her?”

“You are just not the right one for her!”

“And who is? You? Will you continue to keep her in your house until she's old enough to start walking with aid?” He wasn't ready to back down, letting my uncle know how much he thought about his decision.

For the first time since I met him, I felt an intense admiration for my best friend. The way he spoke without fear made me admire him more.

“Let me go, Kristin, we are almost late for classes,” I said in a neutral, unfeeling voice, trying to get him to let go of his hold on me, but he didn't budge.

“You are not going with him. Come on, I will take you—”

“Kristin?”

At the sound of the somewhat familiar voice, we turned. Standing not too far from us is that slut, Edith.

She's putting on a black gown which hugged her curves, exposing the beautiful hourglass figure most women kill for. The gown isn't too short, but it's short enough for her creamy thighs to show, and the slit on those damn thighs was too much to be ignored.

She left her blonde hair to cascade down her back like a blanket, making her look like a runway model with her killer heels that looked so sexy on her long legs.

Her blue eyes shone with an innocence that shouldn't be in the eyes of a grown woman.

God, this woman looked so much like a grown Barbie that it made me feel like a peasant.

What the hell am I if not an ogre?

“Oh, Edith.”

Much to my shock, Kristin let go of me at the sight of the humanoid Barbie in front of us.

“What are you doing here? Why didn't you call to let me know—”

“It was an emergency,” she shyly smiled at him, biting her bottom lip as she peered up through her lashes.

It doesn't take a prophet to tell anyone who has eyes that she has her hots for my uncle. It's in the way her eyes glitter whenever she is around him.

“Oh, June. It has been long since I saw you, baby girl. How have you been?” She smiled at me, looking so innocent, it made me wonder if the woman in front of me was innocent or just a scheming woman looking to be one of the notches on my uncle's bed.

“Let's go,” I said to Mark as I turned and headed towards his car.

“June, how—”

“Let her be. She's still a kid. You don't—”

“Keep your damn thoughts to yourself, bitch! I'm not a child. Any woman with boobs and an arse isn't a child any more!” I snapped at her, pissed that she will dare to interrupt our conversation by calling me a damned kid.

Mark rushed over and opened the door for me, and I slid in without paying attention to my uncle and the bitch.

He closed the door and ran over to his side, while I glanced out, to see the bitch with her hand on my uncle's chest.

Though Kristin looked like he wanted to stop us, he didn't remove the hand the bitch placed on his chest. It's a wonder how she kept a smile on her face despite the words I said to her. In truth, she's just a whore.

I bet she's only pretending because of my uncle.

“It's time to leave,” Mark started the car and drove out of Kristin's property, while I tried not to think of that slut with my uncle.

“So, how's our plan?” Mark smiled.

“Good, I think.”
