Chapter 123: Chapter 123
KRISTEN
I stood on the balcony overlooking the sea, my light-cotton robe dancing behind me to the tune of the wind.
I couldn't contain my happiness. Within twenty-four hours, my life had suddenly become complete.
June made me complete. It took everything in me not to burst into tears when I saw her coming up the aisle with her dad.
My doll... My June...
My life had spontaneously gotten back on track, and I couldn't be any happier that June was there with me to celebrate, to give me congratulatory kisses, and to pleasure me as we rejoiced.
Immediately after the wedding had ended, we flew out to Maldives for our honeymoon. In June's words, "Seattle has too many bad memories. I need a breather."
And I couldn't help but agree. Here, in a bungalow close to the sea, we had all the time in the world, making out when we wanted and engaging in all sorts of fun activities. In less than twelve hours, we had played in the shallow part of the water, fucked on shore, fucked on the kitchen island, and 69'ed on the yoga mat in the gym room.
It was more exciting to know that we had the entire house to ourselves for some days.
The last news I heard about Edith was that she refused to admit to her offences, but the evidence in hand was sufficient to send her to jail.
Nice! Just nice...
"Kristen..."
I turned back, smiling, to see June coming onto the balcony with a silk robe tied around her body.
"I didn't see you in bed," she whined as she hugged me.
"You thought a monster whisked me away, huh?" I kissed her hair. "I didn't want to disturb you."
"Hmm." She buried her face in my chest and stayed there for some minutes, probably tapping energy from me like I was taking from her, too. When she pulled back, a satisfied exhale escaped her. "I needed that."
"Anytime, baby. You know how much I love your hugs." I grabbed her waist and pulled her close, opting for a chaste peck on her lips before we got naked again. "You heard from Mark?"
"Yeah, we spoke last night. I feel so... bad."
"June, it wasn't your fault. We don't choose who we fall in love with. And we don't choose if that person will reciprocate that love. Hell, some feelings are not supposed to grow into anything beneficial. You two are great as friends." When I finished, June was nodding, but I knew better.
"I just wish I knew on time. Maybe I could have told him point-blank that it wouldn't work. And then, I was stupid enough to force him into following me to a hotel and..."
She stopped and closed her eyes.
"Baby..." I kissed her forehead. "All that is in the past now. Mark is happy for you, and that's all that matters. I'm sure he will soon find a girl that will love him just as much as he loves her."
"I hope so too. Mark is such a nice guy, and—"
A shrill ring interrupted her.
"Is that my phone?" I asked acting like my ringtone had suddenly become alien.
"I know that's not mine."June pulled out of my arms and went to get it. She came back waving the phone in the air like a flag. "Oh, she has no shame."
"Who is that?" I asked. For a moment, I thought it was Edith. I would have sued all the detectives in Seattle for releasing a suspect detained with substantial evidence.
"Dija." June did not hand the phone over to me. Instead, she picked up the call and put it on speaker.
"KRISTEN?"
June smiled at me before saying, "It's his wife speaking, how may I help you?"
My wife...
The title sent electricity sparks into my body and settled in my groin. My wife, the one I was to spend the rest of my life with.
There was a long silence on the other end of the line. I almost thought the call had disconnected.
"Can I speak to Kristen?" Dija finally asked, breaking the silence.
"How can I help you?" June repeated. There was no itch in her voice, just firmness and something I recognized to be possessiveness. "What do you need him for?"
"I'm sorry," Dija sighed. "I just want to bring him some business deals."
It took Zeus and six equally strong gods to push back the string of obscenities that tried breaching June's lips.
I saw June's finger moving towards the red button on the screen.
"Please don't end the call," Dija added. "I also want to apologize for... everything."
"Okay," June smiled. "You can talk to him now." She moved closer to me, the phone stretched to me. When I smirked and tried reaching for it, she smacked my hand. "Dija, speak, he can hear you."
"KRISTEN?"
"Jesus, speak! I said he can hear you!"
"I can hear you," I said in a hurry before June exploded. "What do you want?"
"Kristen, I'm sorry. I was blinded by that bitch."
"You are crazy."
"Im sorry."
"Do you know what you caused?"
"I swear, I didn't think it would go this far."
"Fuck you!" I spat.
"I'm sorry." I've never heard Dija so apologetic, so down to earth. "I was so blind at that time. I swear, I didn't mean for any of this to happen."
"Well, everything that happened only pushed me closer to my destiny. So I guess I get to tell you and Edith a big thank you."
"I..."
"Oh, and I don't want any business from you. I've gotten rid of almost all my shareholders and more than half of my employees. I need people who would be my brothers and watch my back, not backbiters."
"You've exceeded your time," June suddenly said. "And you will be blocked immediately after this call ends. We forgive you, but we don't want anything to do with you. Byeeee."
"Please, wait—!"
The call ended with a beep.
I saw June furiously looking for the block button.
"If she calls with another number, I also want that blocked," she murmured under her breath after successfully blocking her.
"Yes, my lady." I did a mock bow and grinned. That did the magic. The ice on her face broke. "Why don't we try something in the Laundry room? What do you say?"
"Hmm. That's true, I think that's the room we are yet to try," she smiled slyly. "Come on, let's go."
I chuckled and ran behind her...
