Chapter 718: Chapter 718
But it was not admiration for Mira. It was obvious she had the heart of a maiden, and she only had eyes for Jack Grave.
“Hmm… Ohh, yes, I have met him.”
That name did not ring any bells at all, but Mira decided to pretend she knew who he was. Cinthia made it seem like he had also participated in that fight, and that he was a famous adventurer of sorts.
With all of that in mind, Mira delved deeper into her memories, trying to remember all the famous adventurers she met back then. The first one that sprung out to her was that sexy woman, Eleonora. She had a really striking appearance that was still burned into Mira’s memories.
That refreshed the scene at the time, and Mira realized Eleonora had also introduced her to another famous person, whose name definitely sounded something like Jack Grave.
Now that she had recalled that, she had nothing to be afraid of, so she added with a pompous voice “He was with me on the flying ship when we made our victory announcement.”
“That’s incredible! You actually met him, you met Jack Grave! And you were together on a flying ship..! I’m so jealous!”
Cinthia did not notice that Mira had forgotten so much, instead growing more excited hearing the response.
“You got to see him from so close! What kind of man was he?! He was really dashing and courageous, right?!”
Mira had an internal conflict, mostly because she could not even remember his face very clearly. Not to mention that for her, a dashing and courageous man was closer to her previous appearance, or someone like Arlon who had recently become an instructor in Arkite, basically someone with a more mature and aged appearance, full of dandyism.
On the other hand, Jack Grave was that while strong, he was handsome with a more youthful charm, and what she could remember the most clearly were the shrill cheers that came from the audience when he showed up.
In other words, he was far too young when compared to Mira’s ideals, and despite her envy for his popularity, he did not appear dashing or courageous in Mira’s eyes.
“Hmm, well yes, he was dashing and courageous. He was really shining that day.”
In the end, that was her reply. She knew that this was not the moment to express her own opinion, and that the right answer was to validate Cinthia’s emotions instead.
“So you also thought that! He’s so cool, Jack Grave the One Hit Dragon Slayer!”
Cinthia was excited, believing she had found a kindred soul, speaking with a dreamlike voice “One day I’ll also meet Jack Grave and join his guild.”
It did not seem like she was going to wake up to reality any time soon. While that happened, the second daughter Rosemary began to mumble in a low voice, eventually the words “I…Sero…” ringing clear through her embarrassment.
And that stuck out clearly to Mira.
“Ohh, you like Sero? He really is an impressive man, you’ve got good taste.”
Thanks to all her recent experiences, Mira had learned that wherever there were loud kids, there were also quieter ones, and she knew it was important to also listen to them before their voices were drowned out by everyone else. Not to mention that this time it was easier as a name she was well acquainted with had been brought up.
Sero was the leader of a guild called Écarlate Carillon, and was a surprisingly softhearted man despite his top notch skills. His guild was also blessed with wonderful comrades (excluding Fricca), overall making him a great man. The rıghtful source is novel✦fire.net
“Mhm, Sero is amazing.”
Rosemary had been nervous and hesitant thus far, but she looked up with joy when Mira recognized Sero, almost like it had been about herself. Then, driven by the joy of having found common ground, she slowly moved the conversation along.
She began mentioning what she liked about Sero, which were her favorite stories about him, and overall showing she was just as passionate about Sero like Cinthia was about Jack Grave.
“I heard Sero was also there in the fight with Chimera Clauzen, but no one knows anything else. Do you know about that?”
After her initial burst of fervor, Rosemary asked her first real question. She basically wanted to know where and how Sero fought against Chimera Clauzen.
By now many of the stories from that fight had already spread, mostly through the mouths of those present. There had been many other adventurers fighting alongside Jack Grave and Eleonora, so those stories had spread quite a bit.
But no one seemed to know about Sero, other than him being there.
There was one big reason for that. He had been fighting the higherups of Chimera Clauzen separated from the rest, alongside Mira and Kagura. And they were the only ones who knew what had happened there.
Kagura still kept herself secret from the public, and Sero was not the type to sing his own praises. Which meant that there was no source for the stories of that fight to spread.
“Yes, I know. In fact, he was fighting right alongside me!”
As soon as those words left Mira’s mouth, Rosemary looked at her with visible excitement.
No one knew about the fight with Chimera Clauzen’s higher-ups, not because it was kept secret, but because those involved were not the type to talk. Now one of them was there, and willing to tell the story, all to fulfill the wishes of a dreaming girl.
“…And we were in charge of their top brass. So we had to chase after the remaining ones after that.”
Mira began telling the story with how they stormed Chimera Clauzen’s headquarters, continuing until they chased after the remaining higher-ups, at which point they split up to continue fighting individually. Mira did not know who Sero fought after that, so instead she told her own story, making sure to stress just how important her summons had been. Then when the fight was over, they regrouped and flew on Pegasus to return to the base where the rest of their allies were waiting.
“Incredible! You’re all so strong!”
“Aww… I could’ve heard more about Jack Grave if he also fought alongside you…”
Fabian was simply excited by the story. Cinthia was filled with envy, wishing she could also hear first hand accounts of Jack Grave’s exploits. And Rosemary…
“Flying with Sero on Pegasus…I didn’t think of that..!”
She looked like she had received a revelation, thinking of various possibilities to get closer to him, or be of some help to him, or just something…
At least she did not seem to mind that Mira had been so close to Sero in the past.
The way Mira spoke made it clear that there was nothing else between the two, or maybe it was just her female intuition telling her that.
Which was something Ryan lacked entirely, as he was completely silent, his heart beating painfully fast.
He had just heard Mira refer to another man, Jack Grave, as dashing and courageous. Then she doubled down by talking about Sero, who she called impressive.
Soon after Fabian pushed Mira to tell them more about her adventures in the Ancient Underground City, while Ryan continued to think that he needed to be strong enough to defeat a dragon, or charismatic enough to lead a large and well known guild, before he would be seen as a man by Mira.
