Chapter 704: Chapter 704

Since Alma was the empress of the entire country, and Esmeralda commanded the whole army, there were no files off-limits to them, allowing them to see all the information recorded in the archives.

“Now that’s what I call an upstanding man.”

That also included all of Adams’ past exploits.

His full name was Henry Adams. He was currently the commander of a knight unit, and had an excellent track record throughout his career.

He had graduated from the top knight academy in Nirvana as one of their best students. Then when he joined the forces, he ended second place in a swordsmanship tournament, and his team emerged winner in a group jousting tournament. He had earned many other awards as well, demonstrating his valor and courage. He was more than fit to lead his unit of knights.

“Oh wait, this is the knight Augusto told us about.”

Esmeralday suddenly brought that up.

With how big Nirvana was, they required three different armies, each of which had four knight orders, and each order had thirty two units of knights.

Henry was part of the 16th knight unit, the heavy armored land troops. Their previous commander was someone called Augusto, who had also been part of Esmeralda’s own troops.

“Ah, I see, now I remember his father. So he’s from that Adams family…”

As they went through the files, Alma recalled something. Henry Adams was the son of a knight who had been serving her around twenty five years ago as well.

Alma had been in this world for five years by then, and Lloyd Adams, the father of Henry Adams, had been a great help to her when fending off monsters, which was her main priority at the time.

Seeing that his talents had also been passed on to his son brought a smile to Alma.

It also made sense that the woman from earlier had caught feelings for him. Also, as the Spirit King would tell Mira later, Martel had secretly been really excited about it all and it had been tricky to keep her under control.

The three began to get more excited to meet Henry Adams, now that they knew a bit more about what kind of person he was. He arrived around two minutes after they were done looking up information about him.

“Did you call for me, Empress Alma, Lady Esmeralda? I’m Henry Adams, at your service.”

There was a knock on the door before that voice rang from the other side, sounding rather nervous. But that was not his fault, as anyone would be nervous after being summoned by those two.

“Please come in, thank you for coming.”

Once Esmeralda told him to enter the room, the door opened and he passed through politely.

“What did you need me for? I’ll do anything you request.”

He knelt elegantly in front of Alma, his manners still impeccable despite his unease for being summoned out of the blue like that. He really was an excellent knight, just like his records said. Get full chapters from novel⸺fire.net

But Mira was rather surprised seeing him for the first time.

She had seen how enamored the woman was with him, and he came from a family of knights, inheriting the talents of his father and becoming the commander of a unit.

All of that seemed like the stereotypical traits of a knight, so in her mind, she also imagined him looking like the classic knight, with a dashing appearance that stole the hearts of all women around him.

Now that he was there, she realized that Henry was quite different from everything she had imagined.

As he was kneeling, his head was still level with Mira’s. He was a giant more than two meters tall, with powerful bulging muscles, which made him look like he could swing an enormous greatsword effortlessly with just one arm.

He also lacked the handsome face Mira thought all knights had. Instead, he appeared more like a pirate or a mercenary that had changed his ways. He was far more masculine, and the best way to describe him was that he was like a bear.

(Now even I want to cheer them on!)

Now that Mira knew he looked the opposite of what she had imagined, and that he was not the type of hot guy all girls gushed over, she also became invested in Henry and the woman from earlier’s love story, though not to the same extent as Martel.

“Actually we just want to ask something…”

Mira began asking about Meimei who was staying at the Adams residence, while thinking rather rudely that the woman had to have fallen in love with his personality, as there was no way his appearance could cause that.

“It really is really big…”

Around one hour after they met Henry, Mira arrived at the Adams residence. The Adams lineage as knights was still young, but their mansion was already a sight to behold. Past the large front gates came a neatly kept garden, and with the main building standing tall further in.

“Please follow me, she’s probably still with my siblings right around this time.”

Henry was showing her around the mansion, as he explained that he also had two brothers and two sisters who were far younger than him.

All four of them were always getting into trouble, but he did not seem upset as he talked about it.

Back at the palace, they had told Adams how they were looking for someone, and that the girl he had invited to his home, Meimei, could be her. When they described Meilin to him, he agreed that everything matched perfectly as well.

That was enough to convince Alma that it had to be Meilin, and so she instructed Henry to take Mira to his house to meet Meimei.

“Oh, so she’s been babysitting? That’s a bit hard to imagine…”

Mira grimaced a little at the thought of Meilin, someone who usually spoke with her fists, watching over children. That was such a disconnect that she even began to dread it was actually a different person.

But her doubts would clear up soon enough, as Mira followed Henry further into the residence.

“Yes, it seems they’re still going at it.”

They reached a door, with violent noises audible on the other side, as well as various vigorous shouts and the shaking of things colliding. Mira began to wonder what kind of babysitting would lead to such noises, and Henry opened the door.

“Ohhh, now I get it. I should’ve expected this from a family of knights.”

A warm breeze escaped from the room when the door opened, and the noises became louder. And what Mira saw inside placated all her questions.

Meimei and Henry’s siblings had been in the mansion’s training area. So in other words, rather than babysitting, Meimei had been training them for battle.

(Hmm…I don’t recognize her clothes, but those movements…yes, that’s definitely Meilin!)

The floor was made of stones set in place with earth, and the walls and ceiling were made of stone. One of the walls was also almost entirely occupied by a window, offering a panoramic view of the garden, which was wide open to let a refreshing breeze into the room.

Somehow the training room felt more spacious inside than it did outside, and there were five children there.

One of them, who appeared to be the oldest, wearing an outfit that was reminiscent of a chinese dress, with a face that appeared naive and innocent, but with a clearly well toned body, was Meilin.

From the look of things, they were fighting one against four, but with Meilin’s advantage in strength and experience, she was able to easily fend off the children’s wooden swords with her bare hands. But the children would not give up, constantly standing back up as their desire to grow stronger was set ablaze.

Mira and Henry also recognized that motivation, so they watched from a distance to not interfere.

Around five minutes passed like that.

After being thrown to the ground by Meilin, a young boy and girl caught sight of Henry.

Hearing that, the other two children also turned around, and broke into bright smiles as they began to run up to their older brother.

But before they could get too far, their small bodies were flung into the air. Meilin had rushed up to them so fast that she could not be seen, mercilessly and ruthlessly throwing the pair.

“Carelessness is the biggest enemy. Never turn your back to an enemy.”

Meilin sharply reprimanded the two as they rolled on the ground, and once they stopped, they jumped on their feet and replied energetically. It was clear that they held Meilin and her teachings in high esteem.

Meanwhile, Mira grimaced a little, seeing that Meilin was still as unforgiving as always.
