Chapter 563: Chapter 563
Seeing Zhou Yiyi had found a girlfriend, Zhou Mo breathed a sigh of relief, and even Huang Yali seemed much more pleasing to the eye now.
By the end of November, Zhou Yiyi’s plaster had been removed from her arm, and her arm had mostly healed, but she still needed to exercise more and take good care of it.
With Huang Yali’s company, Zhou Yiyi had an easier time in class. After returning to the dormitory, Huang Yali would even help her wash her clothes, which made the other girls in the dormitory extremely awkward, remembering their initial ’vows of eternal friendship’ now seemed all the more sarcastic and embarrassing.
Tian Xin, Meng Ziwei, and Niu Quanling didn’t really have any deep hatred with Zhou Yiyi, they had just heard from Ling Xue how Zhou Yiyi had supposedly badmouthed them.
So, out of anger, they had isolated her along with everyone else.
Although they were envious, and perhaps even jealous of Zhou Yiyi, it seemed that after she had been isolated, two boys treated her even better, and them—once looked down upon, were still looked down upon, weren’t they?
Niu Quanling was daring and straightforward, and had immediately apologized to Zhou Yiyi, saying she shouldn’t have believed Ling Xue telling her that Zhou Yiyi had called her a tomboy behind her back. Content originally comes from novel•fire.net
Meng Ziwei heard this and was startled, "Ling Xue also said Yiyi had called me a coward behind my back."
Tian Xin’s face flushed with embarrassment, "Ling Xue came to me too, badmouthing Yiyi, saying Yiyi was jealous of my height and called me flirtatious like a cunning woman in front of boys. That’s why I was mad. Could it be that we misunderstood Yiyi?"
Zhou Yiyi rolled her eyes to the sky, "If I were to talk about you, I would say it to your face, not behind your back. If you don’t believe me, you can call her over, and I want to ask her clearly, when and where did I ever say those things."
Niu Quanling, with her explosive temper, threw the towel into the basin and stormed off to find Ling Xue.
After that incident, the girls’ dormitory was abuzz until late at night before things calmed down, and the next day, Ling Xue was isolated by everyone.
Although this was poetic justice, she felt these girls were too... cough cough, petty.
No wonder it is said later on, in one dormitory with four people, they could stir up four or five WeChat groups, know who gets along with whom, who does not, and who has said bad things about whom—oh my, these are truly the trials of young girls living in reality!
One evening into December, after a night of snowfall, the next day when she opened the window, everywhere was a vast expanse of white. The students were all excited to get dressed and run to the playground for a snowball fight since with such heavy snow, there was no way to run. The lazy ones stayed cozy in bed, while the diligent ones ran out to play.
Early in the morning, Lin Mu called, "Zhou Yiyi, come out and have fun!"
Everyone in her dormitory was also very excited, so they all dressed up like penguins and ran downstairs.
From a distance, under the streetlights on the playground, many boys were seen squeezing snowballs and then throwing them at girls. Hearing the girls scream as they ran away, the boys laughed excitedly.
As soon as Zhou Yiyi appeared, she was hit by a snowball. Turning around, she saw Lin Mu cackling like a duck. The snowball had hit her neck, but luckily, she was wearing a scarf, or else she would’ve been chilled to the bone. Without saying anything, she crouched down, grabbed a huge snowball with her hands, and threw it at Lin Mu.
Alas, her legs were short, and she couldn’t outrun him, especially with the snow covering her lower leg, leaving her panting with exhaustion.
She threw who knows how many snowballs in Lin Mu’s direction, but not a single one hit him. It was utterly embarrassing, so she simply sat down on the ground.
"I’m done, I’m done, I’m off to build a snowman with Tian Xin and the others. Following you all around is exhausting."
"Are you okay?" Zhou Mo, who had not been wearing a hat, scarf, or gloves, and was only clothed in the school’s windbreaker, looking altogether too chilly, suddenly walked over with uneven steps. He extended his hand to her, and Yiyi handed hers to him. But with a sudden pull, she was unwittingly propelled forward into him.
She was dressed so bulky and was quite heavy; she immediately toppled him over. Zhou Mo fell into a snowdrift, and she landed squarely on top of him.
With a smack, Yiyi’s mouth slid across Zhou Mo’s face, prompting a cry of surprise from her.
Lin Mu heard the commotion and came over, only to be shocked by the scene before him. Seeing her sprawled upon Zhou Mo, flailing her arms back and forth in a manner that was both comical and ridiculous, Lin Mu approached with mixed emotions and, grabbing her by the back of her collar, hoisted her up.
"Hey, you’re quite adorable in the snow with that weight of yours, aren’t you?"
With snow buried up to his neck, Zhou Mo shivered from the icy cold as he stood up and fervently brushed the snowflakes off himself, attempting to disguise the flutter he felt from their unintended face brush.
"Are you alright? Why are you dressed so lightly? Hurry back to the dorm; look at how frozen you are,"
"You’re quite well-equipped. We guys usually aren’t as cold-sensitive as you girls, so we don’t bring as many heavy clothes. But I should be getting some warm clothes delivered today."
After saying this, Lin Mu felt something was off, as if he was flaunting his family’s care in front of her, so he hastily clarified, "No, I mean,"
"Had enough fun? Then let’s hurry up and go. I don’t even know if the cafeteria is open. Let’s go check it out. If there’s hot soup, we should have a bowl to warm up; it’s really too cold,"
She grabbed Lin Mu with her left hand and Zhou Mo with her right, and the three of them trudged unevenly to the cafeteria. Luckily, it was already past six o’clock, and it was open.
They went in and bought porridge, steamed buns, eggs, dough sticks, and pickles, and after eating their fill, they finally felt warm.
Soon, news came that there would be no morning self-study that day to clear the snow.
With the snow being so thick and making it inconvenient to move around, all teachers and students took up tools and began shoveling the snow.
This was a sweat-inducing exercise, and as long as they didn’t have to attend classes, everyone was happy to do it, so they excitedly went to the logistics department to get tools.
Every year after summer vacation, the grass on the school field grows extremely tall, so the logistics department has a lot of weeding tools, which turned out to be quite suitable for today’s task of shoveling snow.
"Your arm hasn’t fully healed yet, why are you working so hard? You should just use your right hand to shovel with a small spade, and don’t use your left hand at all."
Lin Mu repeatedly reminded her like an old lady, while Zhou Mo timely shoveled away the top layer of the thick snow, allowing her and the other girls to just fill up the garbage bins and carry them to the snow piles on the side.
The entire school staff and students struggled until seven or eight o’clock before they managed to clear the main paths, but since the snow was still falling, the head of academic affairs asked everyone to return to their classes.
However, because of this snowfall, their routine morning runs had been interrupted for nearly a week—an incredibly delightful reprieve in the dead of winter.
But as morning self-study couldn’t be skipped, it only started half an hour later than usual.
