Chapter 8: Chapter 8

Dear Kimberley Hafsat Faruku Mamman,

I hope you are doing well in school ? How is UAE and the weather there? How was the exams? What of your best friend and your pretty/ nice neighbors (I meant the ones that gave me that shiny abaya, not the grumpy one), I blabber too much right?

I just want to inform you that the list of people getting married this year has been imprinted and you are expected to be back home a month to the wedding.

And guess who Hajiya Iya decided to pair you with, the mighty Kazeem Aliyu Mamman and the annoying part Kazeem is marrying both you and Dije on the same day , the same time. What a shame.

So I will be calling you Mrs Kazeem Mamman and if you like die, at the end you must marry him.  He is a bully and a mini devil or should I say maxi devil? he gets his revenge even on the kids here.

Just because he is Hajiya Iya's favorite, he decided to get back at you and Dije for what you did to him when we were young.

But I must warn you, Kazeem has changed a lot , he is a chauvinist , a womanizer and also he joined the most deadly group here in Abuja. Kazeem has turned into something none of us can predict .

He parties all day long without a rest. Who does that for goodness sake? He thinks the world revolves around him and sadly it doesn't. He will die young if he continues this way.

Let's forget about kazeem and let me tell you of my progress with my new job. Actually, I am running my internship in a hospital here in Abuja and the doctors there are so handsome. If I must add.

Some of them are single while some are married but who said they can't get a second wife? They can marry up to four but I am likely going to be the first or the second, after that no more.

I met a young man who finds me fascinating and amazing as he said but I can't judge a book by it cover. He might like me just for fun and Hajiya iya is likely going to spoil the fun with her boring rules. Tok, what a shame

I don't talk to men because I can't endure heart break or anything similar to that. I love my life and my heart is so precious, since I am just nineteen, I promise myself to focus on my studies and finish with a flying colors ( first class) so that my family will be proud of me .

Ehen, before I say goodbye I need  you to get me somethings from my favorite shopping mall. Below is the list;

1: Abayas (Not just one but like Ten or Five)

2: Jewelries ( The eye catchy ones please)

3: Flip flops (The one I saw on your shoe shelf the other time I visited).

4: Pallazo Pants

5: Cooperate wears ( I need them please, for my internship)

6: You, because I miss you so much baby girl and I love you. Always remember that, no matter what happens we are always one big family.

With Love,

NANA K.❤️

Kimberly read the letter again and again, she received the letter as day after her graduation. She couldn't She is getting married to someone she doesn't get along with.

Someone that she doesn't want to have anything to do with but one way or another, she has be associated with him.

She wipes away the lone tears falling, it pains her to know she won't be able to make her choice when she gets back to Nigeria.

But then, what can she do? She only have watch and see where it ends.

"Hey baby girl, can I come in?" A petite voice asked, outside the door. "Yes mummy" She replied wiping the tears.

"My baby, why are you crying? What happened" She questioned concerned. This is unlike her daughter, she doesn't let things get to her badly then why will she be crying?

"Nothing mum, I am not crying i think i got something in my eyes" She replied and her tears decided to betray her by falling.

"My dear, you don't have to hide things from me. I am your mother and I know when something is wrong with you."her mother said .

"See my child, in this world, we don't cry and we don't show anyone our weakness, for they might use it against us one day. You are scared of what is in stored for you back in Nigeria right? My baby, you can pass that stage of life with patience. Be patience and Allah will see you through" She added exiting the room.

She hates to see her daughter in secured at the things they caused upon themselves. The mistake they made eighteen years ago is affecting the life of their daughter when she deserves better.

She deserves a good life with her family not this kind of life. Hiding from people who thinks you're nothing but a fly.

Kimberley threw the letter into a bin close to her bed after copying the things she needs to get for cousin sister .

Twenty days before she goes back to Nigeria, in those twenty days she wants nothing but happiness and joy.

She promised to spend time with her loved ones and friends before going to the mini prison waiting for her.

Who knows what is in store for her in Nigeria? When her grandmother has many ways to get to her for the mistake she didn't commit and knows nothing about.

She decided to go out to clear her mind from the trouble awaiting her. She spotted her mother in kitchen making dinner.

"Mom, I am going for a walk . Please don't worry about me" she informed fixing her veil. "Sure dear. Be safe and don't be late."

The street was busy with people coming back from work so it made it hard for her cross over to the other side.

After crossing the road, she made her way to the park. She finds peace of mind there and it is so simple to meditate there.

Nigeria, a country that scares her.
