Chapter 66: Chapter 66
David’s P.O.V.
The next day, I woke up early because I was determined to go and see my girlfriend. I still loved her, and I wanted to win her back at all costs. I didn’t even care about the wound on my right fist, so I didn’t bother to treat it, nor disinfect it, although my sister was convincing me that she would nurse me.
Diane was so compassionate, but I ended up just covering my knuckles with a handkerchief to stop the bleeding. I used to have rough skin, and I knew that the scar would surely leave a mark, but it was nothing to me. It was nothing compared to the emotional scars that I had to overcome if Helena would leave me.
The rainbow would always come after the rain. That was how I always saw that vibrant thing. But last night, it was impossible for me to watch it since it was too dark, and now, how I wished that the sun could shine persistently and spark the light while giving its warmth.
The sun shone, and that reminded us that there would be a continuation of our lives ahead. There was a new chance for us to hope that everything would soon go to its perfect places.
My heart was full of anticipation to step into the sweet reality. There was no more rain, and I would want to believe that all my suffering would eventually end. Maybe now, Helena was able to think accordingly. Maybe now, she realized that she still loved me and what she felt for me was entirely real. That last night, she was only lying.
Helena might have already come to her senses that she was only shocked by what happened, so she was able to say those heart-breaking words last night. She might have already figured out that she was wrong, and she would soon apologize.
I sneaked around until I was able to leave home while the three women of the house were having their breakfast. If I wouldn’t do this and join them on the table, Diane would only ask me, and she would never let me off the hook until I confessed what truly happened last night. I never texted my sister and just got home—completely soaked in the rain like someone who would no longer want to live his life.
It didn’t take long before I reached Delgado’s mansion. I was already near the huge gate with Spanish-designed bricks and towering columns when it suddenly opened. Because of that, I immediately ran closer, but when I saw how Helena, their driver—Ricardo, and one security guard, were placing traveling bags in the car’s compartment, I didn’t know why nervousness had crept up on me.
Helena’s expression was quite doleful yet glazed at the same time. I didn’t know, but she appeared to be giving some mixed messages only to disguise. Now, I wasn’t sure anymore if she was really a good actress for faking her emotions. The way I saw them could be just a manipulation of all sorts. My instinct was telling me that someone was making her feel that way. I was only clueless.
The same hurt from last night instantly covered me like a dark cloak I never wanted to be. It used to bond against my skin, and for me to get away with it, I quickly went inside their gate and held her arm. Helena’s eyes precisely widened the moment she saw me standing in front of her—at the same time, grasping her.
“C-Cristoff? W-What are you doing here? Aren’t we done already? What else do you want?” she asked. Ricardo and the guard were about to intervene, but Helena signaled them to stop. “I-It’s alright! I can manage,” she snarled.
Helena immediately withdrew her right arm from my grip, then pushed me outside their gate. She stopped for a while, and her mouth fell open after seeing the handkerchief on my right hand—still with a stain of blood. I could see an enormous concern in her green eyes, but it also disappeared in just a blink of an eye. I knew it wasn’t fake, but knowing her, Helena would only keep it a secret and would never want me to see it again.
“Please… j-just stay away from me, Cristoff! I’m begging you… just go!” Helena said as she continued to drag me away while occasionally looking at her back. She gulped disturbingly. She looked so scared, and her voice even cracked.
“Wait! We are not yet done here, and I refused to accept it, Helena. Can’t you see? I’m still using every chance I could get to win you back. All I want is for you to fight for me too, or just tell me, what did I ever do wrong?” I pleaded while grasping both of her hands when we got out of their gate.
“There’s nothing to fight for, Cristoff… so, just leave!” Helena pulled her hands away from me, now acting coldly.
“Anyway, a-are you going on vacation? If that is so, then w-where are you going? Our fourth grading period will start next week. Will you come back before then? Are you going to talk to me then? Helena, I’m willing to forget everything that happened last night. Just give me assurance as to when we are going to talk again.” A series of questions came out of my mouth relentlessly.
“We don’t have anything to talk to anymore! I had finished everything between us last night, didn’t I? We already broke up, Cristoff! What else do you not understand, huh? So, please… just leave. If you really loved me like what you’re always telling me, you’ll stay away from me. Please, before he sees you—”
Helena was interrupted from what she was going to say when her father came out of the gate. It was what made Helena’s body shake terribly.
“Athena, what are you doing here? We’re going to be late—” but Mr. Delgado promptly cut off his words when he was shocked to see me.
“Good morning, sir—” I was then cut off from greeting him when I realized something that made me feel some chills against my skin.
Did I hear it right? Did Mr. Delgado call his daughter Athena and not Helena?
“What are you doing here? Are you harassing my daughter again? Helena, get inside!” Helena’s father commanded in a frightening tone. I suddenly felt a terrifying ambiance here—something I never expected to happen.
Okay… maybe, I just made a mistake of hearing it as Athena where in fact, it was indeed Helena. I told myself, setting my mind at rest.
My mind was too preoccupied at the moment that I could be hearing things I should not supposed to hear in the first place. I was getting out of focus, thinking that Helena and I were only up to here.
“No, Dad. Please…” Helena pleaded.
“Don’t you hear me? I said, get inside. Now!” Mr. Delgado barked.
Because of that, Helena immediately obeyed him and went inside with her shoulders shrugged. I could feel that Helena didn’t want to leave me alone with her father because she kept on looking back, but in the end, she wasn’t able to do anything and just followed his command.
“W-With all due respect, sir… I—I just want to talk to your daughter,” I begged Mr. Delgado. If words were not enough to convince him, then I was all for begging on my knees. Suddenly, I was hesitant to call him Uncle because of the anger I was seeing on his face.
Did he already find out about my secret relationship with his daughter? Or did he know it all along?
