Chapter 21: Chapter 21

David’s P.O.V.

It was indeed a good thing that our afternoon class was Physical Education—that said, I had my spare clothes. Honestly, I had no intentions of using their swimming pool. Helena always got easily pissed off, and this time, she ended up pushing me. Well, she must control her temper next time.

But in all fairness, I just loved teasing her. Who would have ever thought that because of my little acting skills, she already forgot that I was the number one swimmer in the school? Or like what she said, she doesn’t know about that truth?

It was difficult to hold my breath underwater. I could have died out of breath if I would stay there a little bit longer. I was about to get out of the water and stop the act when she suddenly jumped! She had a fever, and yet, she still does that? No wonder, she was a brat!

But I must admit that I took advantage of what she did when I realized that she would be doing CPR on me after a few seconds of acting lifeless. So, I continued pretending that I was still unconscious. I just didn’t know why, but I was indeed fascinated by the taste of her lips.

I didn’t know why, but I wanted to kiss her over and over again. It all started when we accidentally kissed, and now, I felt like becoming more addicted to her lips.

What’s with her? Am I getting bewitched?

Just the sound of her voice calling me Cristoff already sent shivers down my spine. How much more when she was near to me? Most especially, what happened earlier in the study room was out of my control. I couldn’t get enough of her sweet face while looking at her.

She was sleeping soundly on the couch that I was torn in between focusing on our report or fighting myself not to be completely drawn towards her. I was not getting used to being called Cristoff as no one had ever called me that nickname, but I wanted to declare from now on that only Helena had the right to call me that endearment.

True enough, their mansion was gigantic that even though she already toured me around, I still needed a maid’s assistance or else I would get lost. It was also embarrassing to roam around here all alone. Even if my bedroom would be tripled, their guest comfort room was a lot even bigger. Besides, it was exceptionally clean and huge, that you could even sleep on the sparkling floor.

After I took a bath and changed my clothes, I went straight to their living room. One of their maids asked me if I needed anything else, but I only told her that I would be waiting for Helena here. I silently sat on the couch when a large picture frame caught my attention. It was enclosed in a clear glass and side-protected with a panel of maple wood.

Curious about it, I stood up, approached it, and stared at it seriously. It was a full-of-life canvas. Mr. Delgado was wearing a black suit and tie. He was proudly seated with his cleft chin up, while Helena was smiling at his back. Her arms were wrapped around his neck, and she looked very sympathetic in her white dress. With a flower crown on her head, she was also wearing glasses while her green eyes seemed to be looking at me.

I focused on looking at her eyes, and suddenly, I became uncomfortable. I felt that there was something wrong. I just couldn’t pinpoint what exactly it was, but I had a feeling that I hadn’t known her.

Is this Athena? Helena’s dead twin sister? My eyebrows furrowed as I silently asked myself.

The girl in the picture would never be Helena. I was sure of it because even though they had the same green eyes, I could tell that there was still a big difference. Helena used to capture my heart every time we were together, particularly every time we had eye-to-eye contact, but I didn’t feel the same thing with the girl in this photograph.

It was the same feeling while I was browsing photos from Helena’s Famebook account—where I didn’t feel any connection at all. But why was it that the dead Athena’s account captured me the most, the same way as Helena used to seize me in reality? And if this was Athena, why would her father display this instead of Helena’s photo with him?

I was confused. Is there something about Helena that I have to dig deeper into?

“Have you been waiting—” Helena interrupted my thoughts as she greeted me in the living room door, but otherwise, she seemed to be stunned upon seeing me gazing in front of their hanged photo canvas.

“Is that you, Helena?” I asked her while pointing at the picture.

“Y-Yes, why?” she asked while sitting on the sofa.

“Hmm… nothing,” I replied.

Well, I wasn’t able to see that Athena in person, so maybe I was only hallucinating. It was too impossible, and there was no point that her father would display the photo of her dead daughter instead of the one who survived the accident.

Scratch your thoughts, David! You’re just overthinking things.

“I’m glad that you have your spare clothes, but alas, I will let you borrow some of my clothes, in case you didn’t bring any with you!” She was smiling, yet it was very clear in her tone that she was sarcastic.

Hmm, let’s see until when you can be that sarcastic. I’ll make you pissed again! I smiled cunningly.

“Oh! In that case, you forgot that the PE subject was our afternoon class. Of course, I have to bring my spare clothes, Helena. But are you slowly losing your memory? You are too young to become senile.”

I paused for a while before continuing my statement, “Or you really planned to push me in the pool because you were expecting that I didn’t have any other clothes with me, and you will be satisfied to see my hunk naked body strolling around here? Admit it, Helena! You just want to see my abs. Come here… I’ll even allow you to touch them if you want.” I then let out a cocky grin while spreading my arms and motioning her to come.

I knew for sure that Helena would rebut in three, two, one.

“Excuse me? For your information, Cristoff, I had seen a lot of half-naked boys in my previous school, most especially when there’s a swimming competition, and I must say, your body was nothing compared to them! With what you have right now, do you already call them abs? Yuck, it doesn’t even reach one-fourth of my criteria!” she snapped at me. She was trying her best to be cranky, but it was too obvious from her actions that she was just holding back her laughter.

Oops, that strikes my ego! She clearly doesn’t want to be defeated, huh?

“Oh, really? So, tell me, why did you drop your jaws off the floor while drooling on me a while ago? It looked like it was your first time to see a perfect Adonis!” I shot back.

Without a word, Helena threw me a pillow that evidently defined that she was starting to get peevish again, but I caught it even before it landed on my face. I placed it on the couch as I sat in front of her, whose right leg was crossed over the other. She was wearing a sleeveless red dress that hugged her figure.

Its hem was above her knees, so I could see how white her thighs were. As a guy, I could notice that Helena was already a full-blown teenager. Her sexy figure was only hiding behind her school uniform, so I guessed I was lucky enough to see her this way.

“Duh, in your dreams! Are you hallucinating, Cristoff? It looks like between the two of us here, you are the one who has the fever. You’re even in a state of delirium. For Christ’s sake! You’re perceiving things that are not even true. I won’t see myself drooling on you even in my dreams, you know! Hmm, I guessed you badly needed a checkup before you went home.” She sneered after.

I continued giving her an audacious grin. “I loved how you teased me with your rosy-white cheeks.”

“And I always hated you for being so annoying!” She rolled her eyes.
