Chapter 11: Chapter 11
I ended up reading till my eyes we sore and I had to stop reading because I had a headache so I used grandma's iPad to keep myself entertained throughout the night. In the morning I already had my shower and breakfast so I decided to go for a jog while the sun was coming up. I made sure to stay within sight of the house and kept a very close eye on my surrounding just to make sure no one was following me, everytime I heard a small sound my heart would skip a beat and I would pick up my pace checking my surrounding with rabid eyes it was for sure that I was paranoid.
When I got back to the house I was panting like a dog with how much I ran. My first stop was the kitchen to grab myself a cold glass of water, the house was still deadly quiet meaning everyone was asleep so I had the whole house to myself. After drinking my glass of water I washed the glass and turned around to have my heart fly out the window as I got the fright of my life.
"Angelica you scared me what the hell," I said out of breath clutching my chest.
"I came to eat breakfast," she bluntly said with a light tint to her cheeks.
Wait, was she checking me out?
Considering the only thing I was wearing was leggings, a sports bra and my Nike shoes I could see where she was coming from. My toned stomach was exposed and the sports bra didn't particularly leave much to the imagination especially showcasing my nipples.
"Oh sorry you want anything, in particular, I was about to make myself something?" I asked her with my heart racing through the roof, truth be told I wasn't going to eat anything but hearing that she was hungry made me want to make something for her and get to know this less demonic side of her. Just staring at her made me want to slam her against the counter and have my way with her but that was just my hormonal side speaking. She looked so cute with her dazed 'I just woke up' look, her messy bed hair made her look sexier than she was and the way she looked so innocent was the icing on the cake.
"What are you making?"She asked with a yawn looking anyway but in my direction, she was embarrassed for being caught staring at me.
"French toast," I answered watching her every move, I never really noticed how smooth her long legs were. I just wanted to run my hands all over them and just the thought of her squirming under me brought even more dangerous thoughts of her under me.
"Oh ok I'll have some," she said opening every cupboard trying to find the pan, the way she slowly bent down with her short shorts leaving nothing to the imagination had me biting the inside of my cheek to keep my hands to myself. She was tempting me without knowing it.
"The pots and pans are over here," I told her pointing to the cupboard next to me
"Oh ok," she said getting up and closing the cupboard before coming towards me maintaining eye contact casting a spell over me with her alluring eyes. She cleared her throat with a raised brow and for the life of me, I couldn't understand what she wanted until she pointed to the cupboard bringing me back to planet earth.
"Oh right sorry," I awkwardly said getting out of her way, she chuckled under her breath amused by my lovestruck ness over her. I began taking out the rest of the ingredients to make our french toast, we worked in comfortable silence and once everything was set we placed our food on the dining table along with syrup and a bowl of strawberries. I was about to sit down when Dev came into the lounge.
"What smells so good?" He asked rubbing his eyes before looking at what we were eating.
"Morning sunshine," I said with a wide grin walking towards him to ruffle his hair," You can have my share I'll make more," I told him.
"Thanks," he beamed giving me a quick hug before rushing to sit down and scoff down the french toast and strawberries all the while Anji was keeping an eye on me. I did make more french toast and some pancakes because I was in a cooking mood and before I even finished Lila came into the kitchen probably to make us some breakfast.
"Morning," she said in surprise looking around the kitchen at the mess I made.
"Morning, don't worry Lila I'll clean it up, want some breakfast?" I asked her with a wide smile.
"Oh ah yes please," she said getting a plate for herself, so I ended up making breakfast for everyone and we all ate at the dinner table with grandma telling us one of her favourite stories of her adventures when she was younger. She had everyone's undivided attention even Anji was fascinated by the story. I wasn't particularly hungry so I only had a piece of french toast and a few strawberries before I started clearing out the kitchen. A little bit later Lila joined me to help out.
"Your dad called," she said making my movements halt.
"I figured as much what does he want?" I asked, my joyful mood disappearing
"He's coming to fetch you guys later this afternoon," she said
"Ok," I simply said finishing washing all the dirty dishes.
"Belle," Lila called me before I left the kitchen.
"Yes?" I asked turning to face her.
"Don't make the same mistakes that others make, family is one of the most important things in life so keep them close ok," she advised.
"I know but family can also be chosen," I told her before leaving the kitchen to change into something a little more appropriate. After making sure I had everything that belonged to me packed in my bag I sat with Dev in the lounge while Anji took a quick shower.
"Thank you, Belle," Devontae said seriously out of nowhere while we were watching tv.
"For what?" I asked him.
"For helping me survive in this world," he said with a small smile.
"Come here," I told him opening my arms out for him," You have nothing to thank me for, these are the basic things you should already have," I said hugging him tightly willing myself not to cry at feeling how fragile and small he was.
"But still thank you," he said in a weak voice.
"You're welcome but you should be thanking Lila she's the one who's taking care of you," I said with a small smile.
"I do every day," he said
"Good," I hummed before letting him go," Now let's watch some tv before I bowl my eyes out," I sniffed with a wide smile.
"Ok," he smiled before we watched tv, Anji joined us a little bit later before the honking of my dad's car ended our lovely stay at Grandma's.
"Bye shorty," I said to Dev who stuck his tongue out at me
"Travel safely," Lila waved back at us
"We will thanks for taking care of them," my dad said to Lila who nodded before we headed home.
"So how was your stay with Alice?" Dad asked us, Anji and I sat in the back seat while dad drove and luckily Lauren wasn't with him.
"It was good," I said staring out the window just wanting nothing more than to lock myself in my room and never come out.
"That's good, how was your stay, Angelica?" Dad asked Anji who took her eyes off her phone with an innocent look like she wasn't paying any attention to what we were saying.
"It was nauseating," she answered and continued typing rapidly on her phone.
"I don't blame you," dad chuckled lightly.
"Mhm," Anji hummed not even paying attention to him.
"So where should I drop you off?" Dad asked Anji
"Oh my house duh," she answered with a 'are you mentally ill' look directed at my dad
"Right, and where might that be your highness," dad sarcastically asked finally fed up with her.
"Mhm funny," Anji rolled her eyes but gave him the address anyway and he put it on his GPS because we weren't familiar with the area.
By the time we arrived at Anji's majestic house, it was already two in the afternoon. I say majestic because her house was like the White House, all-white taking up two blocks. If I didn't know any better I would assume the mayor lived here.
"Wow," dad and I awed at the house.
"Shut your mouths or you might catch flies," Anji proudly said getting out of the car with her bag. Dad cleared his throat before staring ahead.
"Later loser," she flipped her golden locks over her shoulder and walked inside her house without another look back.
"Later," I sighed starting at her descending form with a faraway look.
"You like her?" Dad asked with a smirk.
"What, her, never," I quickly said embarrassed to be caught ogling Anji.
"Ya right," dad chuckled not believing a word I said.
"Please just drive," I cringed sitting in the front seat before connecting my phone to the blue tooth to play music in the car.
"Yes ma'am" he laughed and drove out of Anji's driveway. After dropping her off I would assume we were going back home but we weren't going the usual route nor heading to any shops near us and that got me concerned.
"Where are we going?" I asked with a small voice.
"Well if you hadn't run away to Alice I would've told you that today is Kyle's funeral and we are both going," he said giving me a side glance as if I would do something, he wasn't wrong mind you if he hadn't locked the car I would've jumped out of it. I sighed resting into the seat before starring out the window and willing myself to shove everything down and just get the day over and done with, after all, I could just stay in the car while they had the funeral.
We arrived at a funeral home and with no intention to head out of the car dad didn't get out either.
"Belle come on its just for two hours then we can go," he practically begged
"Please be my guest you don't need me in there," I said with a locked jaw
"You're not getting out of this car by choice are you?" He asked me
"Nope," I said popping the p
"Ok then," he said as if he finally got the message, he got out of the car and walked to my side of the door and opened it.
"What are you doing, don't you dare-aahhh!" I shrieked as my dad carried me out of the car struggling and all and hoisted me over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes.
"LET ME GO," I cried loudly.
"Scream all you want we are heading into that building," he said and locked the car before heading into the house. I sighed and gave up fighting instead I cursed his name to hell, the audacity of the man thinking he can win this fight, well think again daddy dearest you just declared war.
The moment we entered the building all eyes fell on us, no surprise there I was being carried like a child after all.
"You can put me down now," I urgently said feeling goosebumps litter my skin from all the unwanted stares.
"Right of course," dad awkwardly said not liking the stares either, it seemed like the world stopped and all eyes turned to us.
"Still wanna stay?" I asked him staring at the old man who was openly staring at me with beady eyes and breathing quite heavily.
"Reckon if we go now, Lauren will notice we were here?" He asked lowly slightly tugging my arm to follow him to anywhere in the house but here.
"Nope so let's go," I quickly said tugging his arm towards the door
"That was a joke Belle, get a hold of yourself," he said with a scowl before plastering on a fake smile when he saw Lauren come out of a room with some other adults. When she saw us her gloomy attitude disappeared as she smiled that all too radiant smile that nearly blinded everyone in the room.
"Bellenthu you made it," she beamed hugging me tightly before releasing me.
"Not like I had any other choice," I grumbled giving my dad the stink eye. He smacked me at the back of my head for my impoliteness.
"Behave," he angrily ordered before turning to Lauren with an apologetic smile.
"Sorry about her she's on her period, how are doing?" He asked her giving her a light hug, liar I wasn't on my period.
"I'm managing and you?" She asked him.
"I'm good thanks," he beamed, they had a hot stare-off without saying a word and I nearly gagged when they got closer. Get a room and mind I remind you Lauren this is your dead husbands funeral, have a little respect.
"I'll be by the snack table if you need me," I said before leaving them to continue their weird stare off.
I was munching on a chicken stip when someone tapped me on the shoulder, when I turned around I was met with one of the most drop-dead gorgeous men I have ever laid eyes on. I may be gay but I certainly wasn't blind, my ogling resorted to me looking like a fool and I ended up looking like a fish out of the water as the strip of chicken fell out of my mouth. He was the perfect combination of Ian Somerhalder and Chris Pine, perfectly aligned sharp jawline with a slight stumble with mesmerizing blue/grey eyes that just drew me in, with messy black hair that just gave off that sexy look that attracted a lot of the female attention in the room.
"You ok?" He asked with a little smirk as if that was the reaction he was expecting, cocky bastard. He towered over me like a giant but then again everyone was taller than me but he was about 6'1 feet with young features.
"Sorry," I quickly said shaking off the daze he had on me and picked up the strip of chicken I dropped with a napkin.
"No my apologies, I didn't mean to make you drop your food with my good charms," oh look at that he wasn't humble in the least, his whole demeanour screamed bad boy so what he was doing talking to me was a mystery or maybe because we were the only teenagers at the funeral.
"How can I help you then, I'm sure there are better picks of women here you would rather be talking to than me?" I started eyeing the young mothers who were fixed on him.
"Well join me outside and I can answer all your undying questions," he said clearly not enjoying the stares as much as I thought he would.
"Ya sure I got nothing better to do," I said taking one last piece of the chicken strip because they were my favourite snack and no circumstance was going to derive me from having one, post-apocalypse or not.
