Chapter 143: Chapter 143
DAHLIA:
“Sister, if you had truly loved Tristan, please help me... Help me and the baby escape.”
If desperation was power, then I would have been the most powerful wolf at that moment to have clung to my enemy and beg her for help!
I knew Samalah had staged this revenge. There might be no way she would help me. It was a slim chance that she would, and I am clinging on that slim chance based on her emotions.
I loved Tristan too. I loved him will everything I got, and I could feel that Samalah held the same intensity of feelings I had for my mate.
She gave me a sharp and anguished look. Samalah turned her back from me again, but I held her hand.
“Please… That spirit stone they speak of, it chose me. I wasn’t forced to take it in the auction house. If they hand me back to their leader, they would kill me and the baby.”
“How dare you ask me for this? Do you know how sick I feel when I think that you had a love child with Tristan?”
“I’m sorry… I’m sorry for getting in the way between you two,” I said, my mouth quavering to form the words that I hope would get to her.
I continued to plead. “I’m shameless, I know… But please. This child is the only thing remaining of him… He is the only thing that could remain of Tristan… You saw it yourself. These rogues and vampires, they don’t care if they kill the child. He might never survive, and he certainly won’t if the king gets his hands on the red ruby…”
“You want me to help you, you b*tch? You want me to save that blasted thing? And what will I get from it, huh? Can you bring Tristan back to me?”
I raised Samalah’s hand and clasped it firmly, pleading. “Whatever it is that you want, I’ll make sure I give it… I don’t care what it is, but if I could do it, I’ll give it to you! Just please help me…”
She didn’t speak for a long time. I kissed her palm, which I could never let go of. “Please, Samalah. I beg you -”
Just then, a stinging sensation landed on my face. She had let go of my hand and slapped me, making ripples on the swap’s water surface as I staggered from the force.
“What I want the most you can never give me, Dahlia,” she said, clutching the hair from the back of my head.
“Tell me what it is. I’ll give it to you!”
“What I want is your life… Your life in exchange for mine,” she said.
I have no idea what she was talking about. Her eyes were also bathed in tears. She finally released my head with a jolt and tugged at the silver chain around my neck.
“Enough of this useless chitchat. Let’s go back.”
We trudged back silently. She dried our bodies using her magic, and we donned our clothes, our escorts smirking and whispering back as they walked beside us.
Since then, Samalah had not said a word to me, and I have not spoken a word to her either.
My hazy mind was preoccupied with another thought. If I couldn’t persuade her, then I should at least think of a way to remove the silver collar around my neck.
I had made the mistake of showing Lord Irvan and his men that I could wield powers beyond their control. I mustn’t make that mistake again. I must think of a way out.
Just like the last time I was in the company of these men, I was obliged to sleep next to Samalah. It was a rather easier sleep compared to before. The silver chain was keeping my spirit and body in an altered state of consciousness where everything seemed to slow down.
Thus, I did not realize what was happening until I felt a heavy breathing against the side of my neck and a building pressure around my waist.
I gasped when I woke up. On top of me was one of the rogues from earlier.
Before I could scream, he heaved a hand against my mouth. “Scream and you die, b*tch…”
Samalah was just a few inches away from my cot, but her body was turned towards the other side.
I pushed away the man on top of me, but he pushed back, his chest almost crushing my airways.
“Don’t worry, princess,” he whispered, “This won’t hurt a bit…”
I could almost feel his foul mouth descend at the side of my neck, but instead of his lips, he coughed out a huge amount of blood that even stained half of my face.
That was when I saw them – the shards of icicles that stuck from the right side of his body which instantly killed the rogues who attempted to have his way towards me.
I took some time before I was able to push the rogue’s body away from mine, leaving me panting in the process. I was still trembling in fear, fearing what could have happened if he didn’t die…
I looked at Samalah, and she was looking back at me, her eyes as sharp as the icicles she had produced to pierce my attacker’s body.
Perhaps it was the effect of the silver chain against my body or just the sheer thought of what could have gone wrong had Samalah not intervened, but I was not able to move until Samalah had tugged at the chin on my collar.
“Silly girl, did you not hear me?... Get up.”
Where was Samalah taking me? What were we going to do?
“Get up, Dahlly. Didn’t you ask me for help earlier? I’m going to give you what you want.”
I immediately scampered on my knees. She was really going to help me, will she not?
Samalah must have been reading my mind at that exact moment. She repeated her words as if she was speaking to a child. “I’m going to help you and that child flee this place once and only once under one condition.”
I held my breath as I spoke. “W-What’s that?”
“You have to give me your face and your body entirely!”
