Chapter 135: Chapter 135

DAHLIA:

“No, I don’t hate you,” Tristan said slowly although his face was still very fierce. “I don’t hate you at all…”

Yeah, right… The look in his face had already betrayed him. The way he did not want our child to live like this was already proof enough.

Perhaps Samalah’s words were true… He really did care only about my body – a body he could not get pleasure with while the child is growing…

If this was the game he wanted to play, then, let’s play it – a game of hate… Let’s find out who between us should hate the other the most!

“Let’s part ways here, Tristan. You go your own way, and I’d go mine,” I growled.

“Dahlia, you don’t understand. This is all for your sake! I know you fear it – being cut up, but if it’s the only way to save you, we shouldn’t hesitate.”

I stood there for a while, unable to bear the shock of what Tristan was saying…

“Shouldn’t hesitate?... You mean you aren’t hesitating at all, whatever the consequences of that decision will be? You don’t even have any morsel of guilt in your body,” Eva spat out angrily.

“Listen, Dahlia. To me, you are the most important thing in the world… I can’t live knowing that you’ll be endangered. I’ll go crazy thinking that your life is on the line with this! Please just bear with the momentary pain… Come with me, hmm? Let’s remove that thing inside of you.”

Momentary pain? Thing?... I barely knew Tristan, and I haven’t even recovered all my memories yet, but hearing him speak now made me certain. He is really a monster through and through!

He took a step towards me, and I backed away from him.

“Tristan, don’t concern yourself with me from now on,” Eva said. We took another step backwards. “Don’t come looking for me again too.”

“Dahlia, why? Just why won’t you hear me out? I just want you to be safe from those rogues and vampires!”

“Safe?... Yeah, right,” Eva mumbled. “If you’re doing it out of concern, please don’t. I really don’t deserve your ridiculous concern after all.”

“What are you saying? You’re my mate! Of course I’m more than concerned for you…”

“Yes… I am your mate, but I am also a killer, Tristan.”

The confused look in his eyes was too much. “What do you mean? What does that have to do with us?”

“Everything,” I said. “It’s got to do with everything… I… I’m a killer, Tristan! The moment I was born, I had sentenced someone to die for my stead, and that someone… That someone was your mother!”

There, I said it!... I dragged the words I dreaded to say out loud, and finally, I said them.

I thought I’d see him get hurt as if I cut him with a knife immediately. I didn’t think that his initial confused look will hurt me even more.

“Dahlly, what the hell are you saying? This isn’t a time for jokes. Quickly, let’s move before they catch us.”

He came closer, but I stayed fixed on the spot. I met his eyes.

“It’s true… I have killed your mother. The spirit stone showed me the truth.”

He looked hard at me. “Don’t lie to me! I know you hate the idea of a healer opening you up – I get it, so stop telling me lies just so I’d stop pestering you with it!”

I could feel Tristan’s heart against mine racing wildly, and his spirit shaking in controlled anger. I wanted to tell him it was all a lie, but it wasn’t…

“The stone told me the truth… The day I was born, my father went back to our home. He tried to give the stone to my mother first, but she was already dead… Then, he went to me and gave me a piece of the spirit stone,” I said meeting Arthur’s eyes.

“I remembered saying in the auction house how small the spirit stone was. Now I know why. A part of it was inside me all along. My father must have killed your mother, so I could have it,” I confessed in one breath.

After a moment of simply looking at each other’s eyes, Arthur’s gaze turned into surprise and finally into anger as he began to clutch me tightly by the shoulders.

“Why,” he grumbled in an angry voice, “why are you telling me this? Just why?”

“I… I wanted to be truthful to you! You were never truthful to me from the start. I didn’t want to be like you… I didn’t want to be unfair!”

Just then, a heartbreaking sadness took hold of my heart. I know this was mostly Tristan’s emotions, but I could feel my heart tearing inside too as I continued to look at his pained expressions.

“For the love of the Goddess, why are you telling me this now,” he said, his hands getting tighter as he clamped it against my shoulder. “Just why? Do you hate it so much when all I wanted was to help you get rid of that curse?”

My eyes widened. “A curse? You call it a curse? If this was nothing but a curse to you then you are wrong! Let’s separate here. Don’t pretend that you care about me anymore. You deceived me, and I killed your mother! We owe nothing to each other now! We are nothing to each other!”

As soon as I said those words, I broke away from his grasp and ran quickly towards the opposite road as fast as Eva could.

My tears trailed behind me as I ran. I could feel the anguish in Tristan’s heart so fiercely that it was making me breathless as well.

There was no going back from before for us now. He put me into an intense amount of pain as I listened why he hated the child inside me, and I was able to inflict pain on him when I told him the truth… There were no illusions of love between us anymore...

He didn’t know just how much my heart grieved as he spoke of our child like he was speaking of a disease or a vermin…

It doesn’t matter though. My child and I will live far away from him. We won’t need him now or even in the future.

I took another step towards the bleak and lonely road alone, never looking back to the one I used to love but whom I now hate with such intensity that it would take a grand miracle for us to ever be together...
