Chapter 110: Chapter 110
DAHLIA:
I left Naskan and Samalah to talk by themselves inside the cave, but how come everything was so quiet?
I wanted to listen to their conversation, so I stayed just a bit outside of the cave, but I didn’t hear ever a single word.
I frowned. Were they able to use magic to seal off their conversation?
Although Samalah has been nothing but kind to me, I still cannot trust her fully, and Naskan – well, he’s on a whole different level…
Naskan felt like he was someone familiar, and yet, he also felt like a total stranger at the same time.
I did like Naskan – that’s something I cannot deny. He was very attractive, but at the same time, he’s somewhat rude, a bit cocky, and he always tries to tempt me whenever he gets a chance...
I shook my head. Why was I thinking of Naskan? Just because I saw his body and it looked divine does not automatically make him someone I could trust...
I still have my unborn child to protect. If Samalah did tell me the truth, both my child and my own life would be in greater danger should someone discover the fact that I was a Shadow wolf and that I am pregnant... Thus, I have to be careful around Naskan and his advances…
I had already finished hanging out the clothes I washed when Naskan and Samalah came out from the cave. Samalah was all smiles.
“Dahlly, come and eat breakfast first,” she said.
They had already finished cooking the meals and setting up the makeshift dining area, so having nothing else to do, I simply sat down next to Samalah. Naskan sat down next to me.
“Here, try this. This is good for you,” he said, handling me a plate of soup.
I thanked him, but before I could get the spoon, Naskan, beat me to it, scooping up the soup and raising it to my mouth.
“Here, try it,” he said, grinning like a boy.
“A-Alright,” I said. It was awkward and embarrassing, but I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it, so I ate the soup he was trying to feed me.
“It’s good, right? Have some more,” he said, taking another spoonful from the bowl and raising it again towards my mouth.
After Naskan’s third attempt to feed me, I was not able to hold my peace any longer.
“Um, you did know I lost my memory, but I still got both my hands, and they are functioning well,” I said to him.
“I know, but you just finished washing the clothes, so you must be tired. Let me feed you,” he remarked.
I looked haplessly at Samalah, but she evaded my stares. She was concentrating on finishing her own meal.
I conceded to Naskan’s demands five or six times more before finally finishing the soup. He never once ate himself.
“I’m full. Don’t worry,” he said when I asked him about breakfast.
“So, what are we going to do now? Where will we go?” I asked both Samalah and Naskan after our morning meal.
“We’re heading to Laudicia – the Shadow Rune’s place. We’ll have to go slowly though since we’ll travel by the forest,” Samalah answered.
“I see… But, wouldn’t it be bothersome for you?” I knew they were only going there for my own sake. Why else would they go to the Shadow Rune’s old village if not for a Shadow wolf like me?
“It’s alright. If it’ll help you, Dahlly, we won’t mind,” Samalah said.
Tears started to well up in the corners of my eyes. It’s really a big deal for me to be able to get all the help I could have, especially since I am carrying a baby.
“It wouldn’t be a bother. If we’ll ever need some supplies, I’ll go get them from the village. We’ll travel soon after, so you better get ready,” Naskan said.
After a few minutes, we were all set again to move. Naskan transformed himself into a huge black wolf, just like the one I saw this morning.
“Hop in,” he growled as we were getting ready to leave.
“Um, no need. I can walk,” I said.
“You can, but the road would be rough, and we could save more time if I carry you. Hop in,” he said again.
“Go ahead… I’ll transform into a wolf too,” Samalah seconded.
I climbed reluctantly at Naskan’s back, feeling sorry for burdening them just because I cannot channel my wolf, making our trip more uncomfortable for everyone.
I clung into Naskan’s fur tightly, thinking that he’d probably be too rough and too fast. He was, however, surprisingly gentle all the way as we travelled.
We went through the forest in silence. I felt as if there was something going on between Samalah and Naskan as I would sometimes catch Samalah looking at us, although she’d immediately smile when our eyes meet.
“Do you feel alright? Would you like to take a rest,” Naskan growled.
I shook my head. “I’m alright. Let’s continue before nightfall.”
I was beginning to wonder whether Naskan knew about my pregnancy. Why else was he being extra careful with me?
Was what he said earlier – being my fated mate – for real?...
‘Hey… Won’t you talk to me now,’ I said to the wolf inside my head. ‘I could really use your help, you know…’
I had begun to see her in my head. She was a golden brown wolf. She could lurk inside my mind now, but whenever we try to communicate, there was still a barrier existing between us. I could see her trying frantically to talk to me, but I cannot hear even her faintest whisper.
I frowned. Was the loss of my memory related to my inability to channel my wolf? What could have possibly happened for me to end up like this?
“Samalah,” I said absentmindedly, “How was he like – my husband?”
“You mean, Count Abell,” Samalah said, her voice suddenly becoming more energetic. “Why do you ask? Are you beginning to remember him?”
“Not yet… I… I just want to know what kind of person he is,” I said.
Suddenly, I felt the muscles in Naskan’s back tighten. Did he hate hearing about my husband?
“Well, I don’t know about him being your husband, but I can definitely say he was someone whom you cannot trust, Dahlly,” Samalah said back.
“Why,” I replied, swallowing the lump in my throat, “was he a really violent man?”
“Well, you did run away from him once when he forced you to make love to him in his wolf form…”
Naskan suddenly flinched. Did he just get mad about what he heard?...
“You thought he was also cheating on you with his secretary,” Samalah added, to which Naskan let a low growl escape his snout.
“Naskan, what’s the matter? Is something bothering you,” I asked, patting his fur a bit. It did feel like he was uncomfortable hearing about my husband after what Samalah had just said.
“N-Nothing,” he said in an obvious lie.
“Naskan,” I said softly, “do you happen to know my husband?”
“Well, Naskan, why don’t you tell Dahlly the truth? You do know him, right,” Samalah remarked as if she was teasing him. “Out of all people, you know him far too well, did you not?”
I could have sworn I heard Naskan hurl profanity words towards Samalah in my head just now…
