Chapter 97: Chapter 97
Maya shook her head, "No way you don't mean that, do you?"
She was enjoying way too much Jared's big reveal of Tyler's childhood.
He raised his brow, "I was right there and an accomplice, so in a way you are hearing this right from the horse's mouth." His face came closer to her while she giggled noting the serious expression on his face, "I'm the most valid and most trusted source you can ever get."
She wanted to reply but she stiffened, whatever retort she had in mind gone as she felt someone shooting glares at her back. Someone was watching them. Years of watching your back after she had run from her mother were finally paying off.
She turned and there stood Xavier, hands crossed and murderous intent in his eyes.
Her eyes widened even as she noted how close she was to Jared and even though she was not in a relationship with Xavier, she didn't want any misconception to be formed by him. She pushed her chair backward, attempting to stand up even as she noticed that Xavier was now walking towards her.
"What is he doing here?" she mumbled to herself, the plan was for him to call her once he got to the address.
She gasped feeling a strong familiar hand clasping around her waist even as Jared offered to help walk her outside.
Not wanting whatever the hell was going on right now to stretch to a bit of awkwardness, she turned to meet Xavier's eyes, hoping whatever he saw in hers warned him not to make a scene.
"Jared meet Xavier and Xavier meet my boss, Jared."
Jared smiled, his hand outstretched for a shake.
Xavier scowled, "I'm her fiancée." He simply muttered then he grabbed her hand and led her out of the restaurant like she was a rebellious kid.
"What the hell, Xavier?" She whispered immediately they got into the car.
She had suppressed her anger long enough till now, like it wasn't bad enough and she wanted the ground to swallow her whole, the last thing she wanted to put a bow on her embarrassment was fighting outside with her supposed fiancée and having her boss as an onlooker.
"I should be asking you that, what were you thinking being that close to that man?"
"That man is my boss!" She screamed.
"The last time I checked an employee and an employer doesn't go to a restaurant this late at night and sit so close to each other to discuss work-related issues, now do they?"
She glared at him not believing how difficult he was being, how he was so ready to blow this into proportion.
"Whatever you saw wasn't what it looked like I assure you." She rolled her eyes, "We were just discussing."
"Ain't we discussing and do I look like I have my body leaning into yours like I want to fucking kiss you?"
Her eyes widened in distraught, "What do you want from me Xavier, tell me and I'll do it?"
"Resign," he deadpanned.
"Oh now you are blowing this into proportion," her voice was slightly raised even as she sat up, "What you saw there was my boss keeping me company until you show up, or will you rather preferred me all alone at this time of the night?"
"You don't get it now do you?" He shook his head in disbelief, "You are my fiancee, you are a part of me, and just this little action of yours in a restaurant with a fucking glass window, and you both were situated in the perfect angle for a picture rub badly on me. I don't want anyone to think I have a cheating fiancée. That will do way too much damage to my reputation."
"Maybe that's what we need! Maybe a cheating fiancée will make our breakup seem reasonable," she muttered exasperated, "I'm tired, Xavier."
"Oh look who is so eager to rush into the arm of just her boss. So eager you are willing to face the scorn of society as a cheating woman. Do you think you can live peacefully in a society that thought you cheated on me? Are you crazy?"
"I'm not crazy, this between us!" She shook her head, "It is tiring," her eyes hardened even as an ache throbbed in her head, "You suffocate me, Xavier. You are everywhere at every damn time and it is beginning to wear me out completely."
"You don't mean that," he mumbled, his voice slightly lowered even as pain contorted his features.
"I do." Her eyes blazed with anger, "So very much I'm willing to be scorned for the rest of my life than spend another minute with you and your stifling presence. You are damn suffocating Xavier and I ain't sure I can continue like this anymore,"
"Maya__"
"That was my boss you just treated to your asshole attitude. Left his hand hanging and dragged me out of the restaurant in the full glare of everyone there."
"Maybe you should have thought of everyone when you seemed like you were about to let him take you right in the fucking restaurant. What was that you both were engaging in, so close to each other. What was so funny anyway?!"
"What the hell is wrong with you, Xavier!" She screamed, she narrowed her eyes at the driver, "Can you drive faster. I need to put some distance between myself and this insane boss of yours."
Ignoring her childish jab at him with his driver, he turned towards her, "I should be asking you the same damn question, Maya. What is wrong with you?"
"Maybe I'm just so tired of you robbing every normalcy in my life and lending me the insanity in yours. Maybe I'm about drowning in the ocean of just how large Xavier is and how everything I do as a person is no longer attributed to Maya but to Xavier's fiancée. I'm done being a part of your larger-than-life personality. I want Maya back, I want all that I had before you disrupted my life and made it a mess. I want us to put a halt to the most foolish decision I ever made in my life!" She made sure she looked him in the eyes even as she spelled out every word while maintaining eye contact, his eyes were hooded and cold just like she had expected but it didn't stop her from continuing.
"I need this to be over for good one way or the other within a week. If you don't want to use the cheating girlfriend as an excuse find a good enough headline or I do that myself."
"We have arrived," the driver managed to choke out, relieved to be able to escape the thick tension in the air himself.
Maya sighed relieved and opened the car, ran out heading for her room. Where she'll try to avoid Xavier till she could sort out her thoughts.
