Chapter 95: Chapter 95

"Firstly, Xavier is not an alleged devil," she mumbled.

"Oh, I'm sorry if that came out__"

She snorted Amused, "He is the Devil."

His eyes widened, "I didn't see that coming."

"I didn't see him coming." She waved her hand where her rock engagement ring rested on which had made Jessica, her assistant gulp and almost trip on her heels the first time she saw it, "I didn't see this coming."

"I think that's the main basis of love, like whoever plans to meet the one?"

"Me," she whispered, not knowing why she was offering a part of her truth to Jared. Maybe because he was so simple to talk to, so nice you'll assume he had no judgemental bone or you are just tired and need a fucking reprieve and a release, "I'd it all planned you know. Childhood sweetheart check, love at first sight check, and then it was supposed to be blueberries and walking the aisle next like__"

"A fairytale." He completed, his eyes now boring into hers in absolute concentration like he get her, like he understood where the fuck she was going with her words even though she had no idea what she stood to achieve by sharing this.

"Then because fairytale was a fragile bubble, mine was punctured by a pricky needle of betrayal from my fantasized soulmate and best friend and because my life was a plot from a cliche novel___"

"You did what every girl who broke up normally does: visit a pub and then make a quick stop to restock your ice cream pantry." He finished off with a grin that made her aware for the first time, just how handsome the dude in front of her was.

Yes, he wasn't hard in the eyes and had the player vibe stuff going on for him just like Tyler but she could swear now she had a glimpse of the guy that he was a commitment type. A keeper.

But at that moment, she didn't just see a fine face, an amazing body but the understanding in his eyes, the grin that translated he got her in some way, he looked breathtaking.

"And that's when I met Xavier."

"Wait," he smiled shocked, "You both met before you started working for him!"

"Yes." She was already close to him so she didn't need to lean in to talk, "I prepositioned him for a freaking one-night stand."

His eyes grew huge and she nodded beaming, "Yes."

"Fucking Christ. You are the Antichrist! How could you look a man like Xavier in the eyes and preposition him!" He shook his head utterly shocked by the Revelation, "Didn't you feel the goosebumps of his cold stares. The first day I met him, I'd gulped so hard and I'd been so thankful that I didn't piss myself. He was that intimidating!"

She laughed remembering her first impression of Xavier and how a sane girl would have known that he needed to be avoided completely.

"To tell you the truth, the coldness in his eyes had lured me in further and I'd been intrigued." She gave him a cheeky smile as he blinked utterly impressed, "Well not to take all the credit though, Tequila also starred in that weak moment of mine."

"I like. The perfect love story of the decade. Will you both talk about this after the wedding, like the big reveal of how the beast had fallen head over heels and had been tamed? I can see a whole movie series adaptation on it,"

"Perhaps," she whispered shrugging, and again reality with its sharp needle pricked her momentary bubble of bliss reminding her that she and Xavier were not a couple, there will be no wedding, no big reveal, and painfully no movie series.

"Hardworking, smart, funny," He pursed his lips, "And so beautiful. I'm still surprised that Tyler managed to convince you to come on board with us. We even placed bets on it."

"How much?"

"Not money. A Club membership VIP card."

"Ouch," she shook her head in pity.

He shrugged, "I never love hockey to start with. It was all for the face, I guess. The brand."

She nodded in understanding. She also knew about many of Xavier's numerous membership to things he didn't give a fuck about, but still, they all were on the company's payroll.

She sighed softly as they both fell back into some kind of companionable silence, mulling over just how much they have gotten to know about the other just in one conversation.

He was at her side, his hand outstretched to meet hers, and helping her up immediately Tyler came out of the office. They were back on the road.

She groaned, "At this rate, I can sue for assault," she complained even as she entered the vehicle next to Jared bracing herself for yet another rigorous stretching-out meeting.

"I think Xavier is already contemplating that," Jared mumbled amused, shaking his head at how cute she looked even as she relaxed on the chair and frowned.

He didn't know why Xavier had let Maya work for his stepbrother he hated so much, but he could tell it was a bad idea and he knew it too.

A treasure like Maya should be hidden and if he wasn't doing that, then there must be something going on he hasn't grasped yet.

He gave her a small smile as their gazes met and she massaged her temple.

He could tell that they were now something, maybe they haven't gotten to the bossom friend level yet, but they were headed there because she had been so wrong about her assessment.

She wasn't bitter and black, she wasn't a complement to Xavier, she was nothing like him. She was his light, she was sweet, she was poles apart from the man and though he didn't know what Tyler had on his ace sleeve, he did know his motive for offering her a job wasn't all pure.

He knew what had happened with Diane and how Tyler had vowed to take away whoever Xavier's black heart fell in love with. At that moment, it had seemed like a big joke, and the devil himself, Xavier had scoffed, restraining himself from chuckling at how ridiculous the statement was.

He who they were sure didn't have a heart was now engaged.

He was there that night, wasn't he? So he knew what game Tyler was playing at yet here she was.

He could tell just how much Maya loved him just by her eyes, the way they shone when she mentioned his name and though they might have had little squabbles on the job offer if Xavier had vehemently refused to let her work but he knew she loved him too much to go against him.

Then why the fuck was he allowing this?

Something was up and he needed to know what was going on and fast too because he knew Xavier was way smarter than this, he thought still smiling at Maya.
