Chapter 79: Chapter 79

"You do know you don't need to do this right? I can handle this shit myself." They were just around the outskirts of the farmhouse where Mr. Dominic had taken Maya to.

The perfect location, by the way, surrounded by acres and acres of land, abandoned properties, no internet connection, all in all, a real cut out from the main world.

He had had all this planned for a really long time, Xavier could tell.

"And let you have all the fun," Melissa flipped her hair defiantly, "Never."

He turned to look at Jasmine who shrugged, not knowing why he bothered to still ask her for like the fourteenth time in six minutes.

Jessica had stayed behind and she was supposed to report to the cops if things got a little too far. They were wearing earpieces to communicate with her.

Much to his dismay, Brian had boarded a bus earlier and was already with DC. He didn't like how this was bound to end, but he couldn't deny anybody the satisfaction of knowing they tried their best.

"I'll be the decoy." Melissa continued, picking up the argument they have temporarily abandoned at home.

"You won't be a piece of meat, Mel. Look where that got Maya, the last time we tried that fucked up method."

"I'm his daughter, Xavier. He doesn't want to get into my pants." She tried to reason.

"No. But I won't stake the chance of knowing if that punk cares enough about you not to shoot a bullet right into your skull if it gets to that or not."

Melissa held his hands which were white and almost numb, once again he was thankful that Jasmine was behind the wheels. He was in no condition or thinking space to do any driving.

"You want to get your girl back? Then you need to trust the girl right beside you, he might be a bastard, a self-obsessed selfish disaster, a psycho but that man once gave me a piggy ride borne out of guilt or something but, I'll be the decoy and you will get into that warehouse, rescue your girl, we will cut loose that devil of a man, get him help or something," her eyes shone with malice, "He sure is going to serve his time too in jail. But first, you need to trust me."

He shook his head aggressively like he was in some sort of physical pain, "I can't let you do this."

"You ain't letting me. I'll do it anyway."

"You are just saying that to make me feel better."

"Wrong. I'm telling you this because that's what I've resolved to do, to feel better myself."

He grimaced, silently looking away.

She squeezed his hands, "Please don't make this hard for yourself. Let me do this with you."

"God, if you fucking die I'll resurrect you somehow and kill you myself," he exhaled sharply and she Chuckled nodding her head in agreement.

"Remember, if it gets too dangerous, get the hell out of this place with the others. Don't worry about me, okay?" He cupped her jaw.

She looked away, "We are all leaving together."

"Melissa," he mumbled softly.

"No Xavier, no mourners or heroes, and definitely no mother fucking Martyr in this story! We either all come out alive or we all come out alive. There is no other option!"

"Mel!" His voice was raised as his eyes clashed against her brown stubborn ones.

"Or we all try being heroes and martyrs too and end up fucking dead. That's also another option for reconsideration, Mr. Xavier Salvador." She held his shoulder making sure to hold his gaze, "I have lost too much already in my life. I love Maya, she is a sweet girl. But this is not really about her. This is more than that Xavier."

He scowled.

"This is me fighting back, taking back for all the nights I shook in my bed holding my toy tightly while hearing mom's scream praying for the gift of daylight that never seemed to come, this is for all the moments I stood with a flowing gown lost in the sea of happier graduates with their family members while playing camera woman during my middle school graduation because no one showed up!" She clenched her fist, annoyance in her eyes, "Dad had landed mum in the hospital and you were with her."

Her muffled sob shook Xavier, "Shit," he whispered, holding her in his arms.

"I ain't losing anymore Xavier," she wrapped her arms around his neck, crying. "No heroes and no martyrs, Xavier. That's it."

He nodded.

"Promise me, Xavier. Promise me you won't jump in front of a fucking gun pointed in front of me. Promise me you won't take my bullets or anyone else's. Promise me!"

Xavier closed his eyes, "I won't."

The map trail, Jasmine was using beeped, they looked out noting the dirt path they still were in, "Wow, I guess we are in your father's ideal romantic spot." Xavier lightly commented, nudging Melissa who chuckled.

Brian jogged to meet them immediately they alighted the car.

"Xavier, park the car away from sight, the warehouse is still ahead but you can't get any closer looking like this." They all raised their brow in offense even as Xavier entered the car regardless to park, delighted to see a whole new side of Brian.

Who knew the boy could be authoritative?

"So what next?" Brian threw a dress shirt wrapper at him and then a bag at both Jasmine and Melissa.

"Change into this and then follow me."

They all peeked into their bag, almost groaning in unison at the horrid green clothes inside of it. Couldn't they have been more fashion-conscious? Melissa thought with a sigh.

But they were back in the horrible costume on their body five minutes later, because Regardless of the really oversized stretchy cheap wears, they needed to survive first along with Maya and they didn't have the luxury to play what matches what.

They all followed Brian in their horrible outfit, which helps them fit into the Greenland environment to meet DC and hopefully go through their line of operation and get Maya.
