Chapter 40: Chapter 40

Thrashed homes, Netflix and chills

Xavier's eyes widened as he took in the thrashed state of Maya's house, lots of possibilities going through his mind as he pushed the door ajar.

He ran inside, shocked to see everything in order and Maya seeing a Netflix series on her laptop.

She raised her brow, noticing that he was breathless since he had run From his car to meet her.

"Are you alright?" She asked sipping from a juice box she had next to her, while she eyed him like he was the one who had his house vandalized and was seeing a movie.

"Maya, are you fine?" He mumbled, bringing out his phone and showing her, her own text.

She stood up and then hugged him, his hands loosely hanging at his side awkwardly taken aback by the gesture.

"I was so worried about you," she explained stepping away from him as an awkward silence ensued.

Jasmine and Jessica's arrival was announced by a car screeching to a halt outside.

Jasmine screamed and Xavier knew she had gotten to the door, she came in with a thrashed picture of Maya, at the back of the picture were words written in bold letters.

"Leave Xavier, or you will end up gone."

"Are you okay?" She whispered as she grabbed Maya scanning her for possible injuries or anything that hinted at ruffling.

"I'm fine." She muttered, "Well, As good as a jobless girl can be alone."

"The front of our house is thrashed with pictures of you, some stabbed to the door with a knife, let's not even mention the gazillion of bulk threat notes outside," Jessica started with incredulous wonder as she stared at Jasmine "And you are sipping from a juice box and watching a marathon of games of throne?"

"Thrashed?" She mumbled, "I didn't hear anything though I have been sleeping all day."

"I came immediately I saw your text," he dropped down to a chair.

"More like ran. The news of you at the parking loft screaming at your driver while charging at your car and speeding out of the premises is top news at the moment." Jasmine chirped as she tiredly drop her bag and collapsed another chair, forcing herself not to act any differently like it was every day she had a celebrity in her sitting room.

"How did you know about that? That parking space is reserved and private," he asked surprised, Jessica chuckled.

"Privacy is that a thing or are you kidding me?" Jessica raised her brow, "We all live for breaking news in Salvador Inc."

He shook his head, grinning.

"So you ran from the office because you saw my text and thought I was in danger?"

His eyes met Maya's, "I would have arrived earlier if not that I spent 2 minutes, 58 seconds searching for my frickin keys," she chuckled lightly, "And it was in my hands all that time"

"The point is that I would have driven anywhere just to see you after seeing your message, you are that important to me." Maya turned to see her friends looking at them, their eyes almost glassy with tears then she turned back to Xavier, now understanding why he was sounding all sweet, genuine, and making her tummy flutter, he was putting up a show for her friends which was working as they swooned helplessly at the both of them.

Deciding that was not a good time to talk about what she had heard since they had the company of two girls who were practically eating every word exchanged between her and Xavier.

"I guess I just missed you," she placed his hand on hers deciding to collaborate his show and make it perfect, "I missed having you look into my eyes and make me remember you are worth all the stress I had to go through, all day. Not going to work and gaining more calories going by all the chocolates, ice cream I had consumed just today."

"Is it working?"

"You are worth every pint,"

"You both should get a room already, the sexual innuendos laced in your words are making me gag," Jasmine said making Maya roll her eyes at the contradictory wide smile on her face.

"Ice cream and chocolate, just tell us you want to lick your glass of wine already." Jessica raised her brow at Jasmine, "No one will judge you. I'll probably pay to lick those abs."

Jasmine flushed making Xavier chuckle. "You are so adorable kitten when you look like that, you make me want to do bad, bad things to you."

Her eyes widened as her gaze snapped at his which had a wide mischievous smile on it, as he was joking with her, but she wondered who would tell her pebbled nipples that as she prayed he couldn't see them underneath her tank top.

"We will just leave you both to the eye raping and all. Trust me I'll be listening to an audiobook with the volume turned to the highest, I won't hear a thing so Maya you can scream like you mean it," Jasmine said winking at her then grabbed Jessica alongside and left the room.

"Are you sure you'll be safe here before the bodyguards I get for you arrive?"

"Yes, and you ain't getting any bodyguard for me. I can do without some huge bald man hovering around me or even two."

"I'll get one that isn't bald. A blonde with shoulder-length wavy curl."

She waited for him to grin at the end of his ridiculous comment but he had meant every word. "I'm not a hair discriminator Xavier, the point remains that I don't want a bodyguard in any form." She smiled at him. "I'm fine, always be fine and the mess outside? I guess it is just some high school kid that really fantasized about you both destination wedding for months and heartbreak just made her go all ahead of herself."

He made a face, "I don't know how people even love an individual they haven't even seen or want to get married to them. What if they snore real hard? Or have crazy favorites like love for pickles."

She rolled her eyes at him, "Pickles are not crazy," she vehemently defended. He blinked. "God no wonder you are so not my type."

"Yes, I know you go for the Beanstalks," she whispered with so much bitterness that she couldn't recognize herself.

She shook her head, "But you don't know how many love letters I get in your mail every day. Some have even named their children with you. It is freakishly crazy, Bizzare but amusing atimes."

He heaved fighting the urge to cradle her face, "Maya, I need to get going now but call me if you notice anything different. A Bobby pin in another position, rather than where you Normally drop it, call me. Your phone rings longer than usual, call me. You feel like your pair of socks are getting shorter and you can't find your nail polish__"

"God, I'll call you Xavier."

He peered into her eyes for minutes then rubbed his face with his hands, betraying how tired he was. Maya felt her heart flutter at the thought he was in her sitting room, looking all stressed out because of her.

Though she knew he was only present because he felt guilty of the leak, still it felt good. The concern, the care felt nice.

"If anything happens to you Maya, I promise you, I'll not forgive you." He threatened.

She stifled a chuckle, knowing that only Xavier will promise not to forgive you if something bad happens.

"Goodnight Xavier," she whispered.

He nodded and sparing her a long lingering glance, he left.
