Chapter 37: Chapter 37
"The conference call is scheduled for an hour, we just signed a contract with the company so messing things up should be the last thing on our mind, next we..." Xavier rolled his eyes at how straight her shoulders were, how stiff her posture was and her voice lifeless.
"How are you?"
"After the conference call, you have a brunch date with the heiress of ...." He stood up and then taking her notepad so she wasn't reading from anything, he forced her gaze on him.
"Fuck the conference call and the heiress. God! You can fucking shout, hit me but please your indifference will kill me, Maya, it will destroy me." His gaze was fixated on hers while she maintained her stoic expression.
"I am fine. I had a wonderful weekend in fact, before then I visited my fiance's family, found out his dad almost raped me and was the reason I left home. Did I also mention that I also managed to be followed by interviewers during my weekend since the picture of me and my supposed boss in his house came out..... I am suffocating and I can't even complain!" Her eyes were glassy as she ditched her facade, her voice rising more than she planned shocking her momentarily.
Xavier had tried to make sure she didn't feel the brunt of being under public scrutiny. Had asked her to take a few days off but she won't hear it.
He wasn't aware of what she was trying to prove, perhaps what Happened that night, didn't in any way affect her or that she was fine but he knew it was a big lie.
She was shaken up by the recent events both the news of the both of them seemingly being a thing and her discovery that his father, was .....
Relieving that night was something he hated to recall, like a page from a nightmare.
Then he was sweeping her into his arms and holding her in there, despite her twist, her squirm, and even at a point her punch.
Then she was breaking in his arm, accepting the strength he brought again, allowing him to see all her insecurities behind her mask, her fear and again and again he regretted just leaving the party because he didn't want to create a scene without knocking off two teeth from the mouth of his filthy father.

"I... am so sorry I caused such a scene. It wasn't like I was raped or anything. It was just an attempt and somehow..." His eyes stormed against hers angrily.
"Shhh.... Don't say that. I don't even want to imagine you being actually raped, an attempt is bad enough." She was sitting on top of his desk, his hand holding hers after she had spent hours crying in his arm.
A habit, she was forming and didn't like one bit, but couldn't help but lean on the comfort it brought.
"How did you know I was following you?"
She shrugged. "Tyler. He had told me that night at the club, that if you get to the clubhouse that means you cared about me so much, you had someone tailing me. I was so drunk, and even though I had remembered other events..." Her face still turned an adorable hue of red as she remembered what had happened that night, "But I had remembered at that moment so I just thought it was because you didn't trust me enough, which was fine...."
"I was a fool and it wasn't fine or right in any way. I should have just asked or mind my business you know."
"I just didn't want to remember that part of my life ever, never want to remember anything that connected to that phase of my life so I reset my information on the web, synchronizing it on all databases..."
He smiled, "I don't speak geek." She shook her head chuckling. "But that sounds cool."
Few minutes of silence passed between them. "It was the coldest, longest, and most terrifying day of my life, and what more? As I stood there watching him again, I realized he ruined me more than I will like to admit." Her gaze dropped to their clasped hand. "The night I met you, I had just broken up with my ex-boyfriend. Now I just said it, I don't think there was even a breakup." The pain in her eyes, tortured him as he couldn't help but feel a scary need to make everything alright just for her, to make her grin cheekily all her life.
"He was having sex with my best friend when I walked in on them, then he had called me a Prude," her gaze was hard against the wall while Xavier restrained himself inwardly not to smother her with any form of affection, she might mistake as pity. "I like to say that our long-distance relationship was the reason we never had sex, but there was prom night and the day I had visited him in his house. His parents had traveled, he had made advances at me." She stopped, her eyes softening.
"We had kissed." Xavier tried to fight back the anger he felt just by hearing such a piece of information, not believing he was even jealous about that little detail when she was clearly in pain. "Then I had just, I thought it was just because I was scared, first time and all that shit but now I know better." He didn't even wait for her to finish what she had to say, already having an idea of why she was still a virgin, why she had been so scared that night in the hotel.
"Oh Maya," he mumbled into her ear as he held her in place, his whispers warm against her ear while his hands were wrapped around her petite body.
"I just remember that night and I can't go through with it, I become so scared, so frightened.... ...don't even think I can be able to ever have sex without going back to that night and it is crazy because I wasn't even raped...." His lips met hers stopping her rant, his hands now on her waist, while she surrendered to his touch, willing to allow him to distract her from her broken reality.
