Chapter 114: Chapter 114
She saw the hurt in his eyes at her words and gulped looking away, not knowing how to deal with this vulnerable pained part of Xavier. Angry she could understand, annoying she could battle with but this defeat, she couldn't take it. "Maybe I'm just the problem okay?" She hurriedly stood up, "I want way too much because I know half of New York's population which are women and gay men would give both arms and legs to be offered this but__"
"It is just not enough for you." He finished.
"I do want you and if I'm being honest, my body's reaction to yours is out of this world," she came close to him holding his hand, he leaned in. She shook her head.
"I believe I deserve a man who can't imagine his life without me and is mad about me. I need true love__"
He looked away, suddenly feeling inadequate, "I can't give you that Maya, not because you don't deserve it all but I__"
"You did try your best, Xavier." She wound her hand around his waist and settled her head on his body.
"What we have is good, Maya." He tried once more not liking one bit how this felt like goodbye.
"We spent months in this house so surely we both feeling attached is only natural but Xavier, promise me one thing," she looked up to meet his gaze.
"I'll surely leave soon, Please don't make it hard for me than it is already? I want us to treasure this moment and not end what little cordiality we feel for each other. Okay?"
He wanted to tell her he would fight for her, wanted to scream and punch a wall, yell and ask her why couldn't she just see what they were, what they have but he didn't instead he gave her a nod.
"I promise."

What was he doing here? sitting pretty in a pair of designer suits, pretending that he was looking at his company's records while his eyes glance at his Rolex watch every second as he wondered if the moving van was finally done packing Maya's things.
He should have stayed back, bade her goodbye. She deserves that much at least but he knew if he had, he would have swallowed his pride, knelt, and beg her not to leave him and that would just be outright desperate.
He didn't do desperate. But he never thought himself a coward too.
Timothy walked into his office, his signature smile plastered on his face like the world was pleasant even though now, Xavier could tell the world was anything but that. His world was shitty and lonely.
"You have a press conference with the shareholders in the next ten minutes, Sir." His cherry smiles made Xavier want to puke or worst, create a dent on it but instead he just directed at him a harsh glare wondering why he looked way too happy on a gloomy day like this.
"I'm not feeling too well and I'll be leaving for the day, please call my sister and tell her I would be heading to hers soon." He stood up while Timothy blinked at a loss of what is happening.
"But the shareholders__"
"Offer them my sincere apologies but they can wait." He hurriedly stood up, drape his jacket that was dressed on his chair in his hand, and walked out of the office while Timothy quickly sobered rushing over to his desk to make calls that were supposed to pacify the soon to be offended shareholders and inform his sister that Xavier was on his way to her.
The elevators chimed and Xavier stepped out of them, grateful that he was finally facing his sister's house. He knocked and almost immediately the door was flung open to reveal a worried Melissa.
She placed her hand on his neck and head, she then gave him a confused stare, "What happened? Why would my brother leave his workplace before closing time?"
He pushed her out of the way gently, with a frustrated sigh, too drained to accommodate any of her theatrics as he dropped his jacket on the floor while aware that Melissa's eyes were widened in shock at his tardiness.
She bent down to pick his jacket at the same time he collapsed on a couch, closing his eyes.
"What happened with Maya?" she sighed knowingly.
He didn't think, he couldn't even bring himself to do that, as the stabbing pain of his now empty house clenched his heart, "Maya left."
"Oh," she looked away, feeling guilty because she just confirmed coming over for a housewarming with the girls over the phone and she was supposed to arrange for food and drinks before Xavier's assistant had called.
He scoffed noting her expression, "You know?"
"She just might need her space before the wedding and it is expected besides you both have forever to spend the rest of your lives."
He cackled tormented, "Forever?" He opened his eyes, "The ring, the proposal, it was all a sham. Maya has left me for good."
Melissa gaped at him in pure shock, her hand dropping his jacket. "What do you mean by that?"
"When you and mummy had met me at the party," he started feeling that it was about time he started spilling the secret that they have dangerously kept for so long, "I had fallen in love with the idea of being with Maya so much so I had convinced her to pretend to be my fiancée. At that time I fooled myself into thinking that I just wanted to spite Dominic but I know better now."
"I understood you both intention that day but a month after? Two months later? Its been six months and the whole damn country has started naming your babies! I've started nursing the idea of a destination wedding for you both. I wanted to be you both event planner!" He sighed at the anger in her eyes, the disappointment and hurt. She felt betrayed.
He shrugged, "I'd have gotten married to her if she wanted that. I'd have done anything for her," he mumbled to himself, pain shooting and pulsing all through his veins, "But she just left. She just walked out of my life and shut the damn door."
"Oh Xavier," Melissa whispered abandoning her anger to hold his hand, "Anyone would be lucky to have you in their lives, and if Maya doesn't think so then who needs her? besides she isn't deserving of you if she doesn't believe what I have seen you both share is not worth fighting over."
"What if I need her? I want her undeserving or not," he closed his eyes, "God, what if I can't imagine another day without her in my life."
She sat down beside him, trying to pull his massive frame up for a hug and he let her, even as he settled his head on the crook of her neck too tired to think of how vulnerable and fragile this moment was for him.
