Chapter 106: Chapter 106

The sound of objects clattering against the floor, made them turn to realize they had company.

A gobsmacked Timothy, who seemed flushed as comprehension of what he had encountered dawned on him.

Maya chuckled, realizing that they had granted the boy a tale to circulate the office as gossip. Thankful that, that wasn't her problem, she grabbed her bag, briefly adjusted Xavier's tie which was a bit crooked even as she smirked at the glazed look in his eyes signifying that he didn't want her to leave and certainly did not give a damn about Timothy.

Maneuvering her way out of his laps, she smiled at Timothy and extended her hand to him, "Hi Timothy, I'm Maya. I've heard a lot about you,"

He wanted to tell her he has suffered a lot because of her and she didn't need any special introduction, but he just stared at her hand extended apprehensively not knowing where they must have been.

Catching onto that she chuckled, a smile that rang in his ears as he noted how beautiful the infamous Maya was, "Trust me I didn't give him a wank, just a blow job."

Blown away by that information, his mouth slacked even as she walked out, shaking her head as she left.

"What are you looking at?" Xavier reprimanded noticing that Timothy's stare was still fixated on Maya's retreating figure. He turned back to meet Xavier's gaze, a little smile inevitably forming on his face.

He had seen Maya's picture a lot of time, heard about her too though sieving the truth amongst the gossip that circulated in plenty about her in the office had been too much of work. But he had not expected this personality behind the beauty.

He had expected yet another too good to be true wallflower guise over the cold ambitious personality of a proud woman who was beautiful and knew it.

But nothing had prepared him for the attitude, the character, the joke that had even spilled out of her lips, and how she had looked at him. Not like one would look at a helper but an equal, likely friend, allies.

"What are you smiling at?" Xavier barked, glaring at him even though his lips tugged a bit later, a smile too on his face.

Timothy sobered, remembering he was still in the presence of his cold boss, which made him wonder how the two had even fallen in love with each other.

What does he know? He thought even as he made way for a cleaner to take care of the mess he had made just a few minutes ago because of the shock of what he has witnessed, opposites attract.

Maya smiled shocked with what she had just done herself and how stupefied she had made Xavier too.

Her phone rang yet again. It was Tyler now. She hurried in her footsteps knowing it must be important if her assistant had first called her and now the boss too.

"What did the promotional department mean when they said you had instructed for the adverts of the game ad premier to be made today?" Jared stared at Tyler now absolutely convinced he had something up his sleeve.

Tyler eyed the door that Jared had just barged into which was still open and Jared closed it then settled himself on a seat, exhaling.

"I don't get it," he stated, "We haven't gone on any photoshoot coverage, hence we don't have any pictures of___"

"Who said they ain't pictures? We might not have a professional one taken now but we can do that later," Tyler pushed a brown envelope towards him which Jared eyed suspiciously.

"You can open it. It is not a letter bomb that I can assure you of?"

Jared rolled his eyes even as he opened the envelope, staring at the pictures inside. It was taken the day they have overworked over the clock and he had persuaded Maya to eat while waiting for Xavier.

In the first picture, Maya was resting her head on his shoulder as support as she had been extremely fatigued, and in another, his face was close to her lips though he had just wanted to whisper into her ear it damn well didn't look at it.

"What is this? You had a cameraman take pictures of us?" He whisper yelled.

Tyler swiveled in his chair, a smirk on his face, "To New York, this picture was staged and it better remain so else, imagine how many lips would wagger knowing that Xavier's fiancée was extremely close to another man like this?"

"This is just a misconception and it isn't what it looks like."

"I know," Tyler quipped, "Maya is not that type of a girl."

"Then why are you doing this?!"

"Because I'm a businessman and I always aim at profit besides I want this to be over already so the application can be launched as soon as possible. And the progress of this app depends on the show you both__"

"Oh cut me this ad crap, Tyler," Jared held Tyler's gaze, "You had made a great app that would be received warmly by the public. I know it, you know it. This preamble is not needed and__"

Tyler scoffed, "You didn't seem to be complaining a while ago."

"Maybe because I like her okay?" He snapped while Tyler chuckled, "What is there not to like about a beautiful, hardworking, successful, smart woman?"

"I don't know," Tyler drawled, "Maybe the ring thingy that should remind you she is off the market."

There was silence in the room for a while.

"This is about Diane right, it has always been about Diane huh?" Jared accused.

"It never stopped being about her."

"I thought you said you liked Maya, why are you doing this to her just so you could mess with Xavier?"

"Can't you see?" Tyler released a throaty chuckle, "I like her that's the more reason why I should do this. Rescue her from that evil stepbrother of mine before he ruins her life and ends it just like he did my sister's."

"Have you stopped to think of the fact that she just might not want to be rescued?" Jared's eyes hardened, "What if she loves this evil stepbrother of yours so much she wants to spend the rest of her life with him? Huh?"

He snarled, "Diane too loved him. That has never been a hindrance for him before to just walk out."

"Jesus, Tyler you know that this isn't the same case as your sister's. Your sister was a case of a one-sided infatuation. This is different, you know he loves Maya and you want to take her away from him as punishment."

Tyler stood up the same time Jared did, their gaze clashing.
