Chapter 97: Chapter 97
With that, Wang Yongsheng used an employment opportunity to settle things with the Niu Family.
From the oldest to the youngest, everyone was in favor of him. Niu Yingying’s elder brother and two younger brothers returned after chopping wood, and upon hearing Grandpa Niu talk about Wang Yongsheng, they all started calling him brother. The two younger ones even began calling him brother-in-law.
Wang Yongsheng had just smugly won over the Niu Family when two unexpected guests arrived at Bai Ruxue’s house nearly in the evening.
"Uncle Junsheng, Uncle Shusheng, what brings you here?" Bai Ruxue greeted them, asking in surprise.
"Xiao Xue, your Uncle has come to see your mom!" Uncle Junsheng said with a cheerful smile.
"Yes, your Uncle has also come to see your mom!" Wang Shusheng chimed in.
But their sudden visit felt awkward.
They knew what their wives had done back then; they could have stopped them from treating Wang Cuihua badly but chose not to intervene.
However, they couldn’t avoid coming today! News of Wang Yongsheng getting a city job had spread quickly.
The Niu Family was preparing chicken to welcome the new son-in-law, and even the third brother has decided on a bride.
Previously, no girl was willing, he was almost becoming a bachelor, but with this job offer, not only did he find a fiancee, but the father-in-law’s family treated him exceptionally well; they even slaughtered a chicken to celebrate.
These two are also the girl’s biological uncles, so who should the job opportunity go to?
"Come inside!" Bai Ruxue said coolly, walking into the room on her own.
Both men followed, not knowing what to say, exchanging glances before entering.
Bai Ruxue understood why they were there; it must be about the job for her younger uncle.
Visitors are guests, and she wouldn’t drive them away, but if they expected favors from her, that was impossible!
If not for these two, her mom could have maintained contact with her grandparents. Their wives bullied her mom casually, and now they had the nerve to come over.
"Big brother, second brother! Have a seat!" Bai Daliang said, having just returned from cutting wood with Bai Ruchuan and Bai Rushan, who were now freshening up. He felt obliged to entertain Junsheng and Shusheng.
So, at this moment, not one of the girls even poured a glass of water for their uncles.
"Sis, you’ve recovered from confinement, right? The second brother only just heard, so he came to see you!" Wang Shusheng said, sitting at the edge of the kang, looking at his sister.
He noticed his sister seemed more beautiful, no longer looking skinny, seeming significantly younger, her features fuller.
"Truly! Sister, you look more and more beautiful. I heard your family’s situation has improved, and it turns out to be true!" Junsheng echoed, sitting down and lavishing praise on Wang Cuihua.
As for what he said, hearing their lives improved was purely speculative. The two brothers heard the third brother would start working and immediately went to their parents, but they said nothing. When pressed, their mother mentioned the job offer was arranged by Xiao Xue for her third uncle.
It was the second brother’s clever thinking that prompted, saying if there was an employment opportunity, wouldn’t they at least ask them before giving it to the third brother? It should at least be considered for the two older brothers first!
Li Xiuying became agitated and revealed the opportunity for their third uncle had been arranged by Xiao Xue, unrelated to them.
The two pleaded with their parents to have Xiao Xue help them too, but for many days, they refused to agree. The two then strategized to come over overnight.
Now it was almost dark; Bai Daliang and the others had only chopped wood and hadn’t eaten yet, while the two sat chatting leisurely, making Bai Ruxue feel hungry.
"Uncle Junsheng, Uncle Shusheng, why did you come to see my mom in the evening? That’s against protocol! You should be bringing something for my mom, right? Don’t you know you shouldn’t visit postpartum women in the afternoon?" She spoke to hasten their purpose in visiting so she could promptly refuse and have them leave.
"Well... Well, aren’t we rustic folks who heard your mom gave birth and hurried over? Uncles didn’t consider much!" Wang Shusheng swiftly came up with an excuse.
"Haha... really coming to see the sister, only bringing two pairs of eyes!" Bai Ruxue said mockingly, surveying them up and down.
This made them even more awkward. Originally, they thought of bringing eggs and cakes, but their wives discussed it and decided not to.
They said if Xiao Xue didn’t help with the job opportunities, then the eggs and cakes would be wasted.
They reasoned gifts could arrive after obtaining the job opportunities from her.
Feng Minghua, sent back to her parents by Junsheng, had sworn never to acknowledge them again, but she was returned the very next day. Junsheng had only hit her out of momentary frustration, and the incident passed.
Now, Feng Minghua had long forgotten her previous remarks, carrying on as always.
Junsheng accustomed to it, had returned to his old ways.
"Xiao Xue, your uncles rushed out and didn’t manage to bring anything; next time, next time we’ll bring candies!" Junsheng quickly changed the topic.
"Xiao Xue..." Wang Cuihua shook her head at her daughter, clearly indicating she hoped there wouldn’t be a next time.
"Alright then, your uncles have seen everything, it’s getting dark..." Bai Daliang and Wang Cuihua were hesitant to suggest leaving, while Bai Ruxue felt no qualms.
"Well... Xiao Xue, Uncle wanted to ask if it was you who arranged for your uncle to work at the milk powder factory?" Junsheng quickly asked, fearful of being dismissed before speaking.
"Yes! Who did Uncle hear it from?" Bai Ruxue openly admitted.
Both Junsheng and Shusheng displayed noticeable delight, Shusheng promptly adding:
"It was your grandparents who mentioned it. They asked us to inquire if there’re any more job opportunities that you might have. You know, you have three uncles, right?" Shusheng cautiously said.
"Grandma and Grandpa told you to inquire?" Bai Ruxue reversed the question.
Clearly, she was not fooled.
She had explained the situation to them earlier; there’s no way grandparents would still send them to inquire.
They were clearly taking advantage.
"Yes... yes!" Junsheng said, eyes dodging.
"I’ll respond when I visit Grandma and Grandpa!" Bai Ruxue was utterly dismissive, "As for having three uncles... if you hadn’t mentioned it today, I nearly forgot I had three uncles!"
"This girl... how could you forget! Haha... haha..." Junsheng chuckled awkwardly.
"Xiao Xue! Are there any more job opportunities? Let us know, we’ll convey it back to them!" Shusheng hurriedly exclaimed, antsy.
"Sure thing! Then convey that once your uncle gets married, I’ll find a way to get a job opportunity for my aunt!" Bai Ruxue said, hiding her amusement.
Junsheng and Shusheng eventually weren’t even sure how they left Bai Ruxue’s home, both walked in a daze, recalling their niece’s words, filled with regret, and began to resent their wives’ ineptitude at socializing.
