Chapter 90: Chapter 90

Strangely enough, early the next morning, right after breakfast, just as Bai Ruxue was about to head to Grandma’s to deliver the job opportunity notice, her uncle Wang Yongsheng showed up at the door.

"Xiao Xue, where are you heading so early?" Wang Yongsheng asked curiously as he walked in and saw Bai Ruxue about to take her bicycle out of the courtyard. Read complete version only at N0veI.Fiɾe.net

"Uncle?" Bai Ruxue turned around at the sound of his voice and was delighted to see Wang Yongsheng carrying a bundle.

This is great, she wouldn’t need to go herself. Even though it’s spring, it’s still quite cold outside, and the spring wind feels chilly.

"I was just about to find you, uncle, come inside, I have some good news for you!" Bai Ruxue parked her bicycle and led Wang Yongsheng into the house.

"What’s the good news?" Wang Yongsheng followed behind with a smile.

Bai Ruxue was always pleased with her uncle’s appearance.

He and her mom, Wang Cuihua, both took after Grandma, with delicate and handsome features, and since she also took after Wang Cuihua, she matched her own aesthetic preferences, which is why she often liked to look in the mirror.

Even with just a simple high ponytail and some clam oil as adornment, she found her rural-looking self quite attractive, rather pretty indeed.

"Come in and I’ll tell you!" Bai Ruxue opened the door and gestured for Wang Yongsheng to enter first.

"Uncle? What brings you here? Is big sis supposed to..." Pushing open the door, Bai Ruxia, who was washing dishes, first saw Wang Yongsheng, then her big sister, and asked in confusion.

"Yeah, uncle came over, so I didn’t get a chance to leave! Xiao Xia, pour some sugar water for uncle!" Bai Ruxue said as she led everyone inside.

Unbeknownst to them, hiding under the window was a little boy, Bai Daliang’s son, Bai Ruying.

He was sent out by his grandma early in the morning to keep an eye on things. So, after breakfast, he came out to play and happened to see Wang Yongsheng enter his eldest uncle’s yard.

In fact, he didn’t recognize Wang Yongsheng, but seeing a stranger enter the house, he thought there must be something good going on, so he quickly dashed over, waited a while at the courtyard gate, and only when everyone had entered did he cautiously crouch under the window.

"Yongsheng’s here?" Bai Daliang was just about to leave; with plans to start work at the milk powder factory, he wanted to chop some more firewood while he could.

"Brother-in-law, are you heading somewhere?" Wang Yongsheng spoke cheerfully, glancing at his sister, further relieved by her joyful expression.

He had come today because Grandpa Wang sent him to check on his sister.

"Yes, Yongsheng! Have a seat, chat with your sister while I make the most of these days to chop some wood for the family!" Bai Daliang dashed out hurriedly.

Leaving a puzzled Wang Yongsheng, "Sis, what does brother-in-law mean by making the most of these days? Where’s he going?" He asked with curiosity.

"Uncle, my dad is going to work at the milk powder factory in Pingyang Town!" Bai Ruchuan boasted.

"What? The milk powder factory in Pingyang Town? Didn’t they refuse rural household registrations? How did your dad get in?" Wang Yongsheng was more curious and shocked, eyes wide as he asked and looked towards his sister, worried a child couldn’t explain clearly.

"Xiao Xue got the job notices!" Wang Cuihua, holding Xiao Feng, answered her brother with a cheerful smile.

Bai Ruxue looked at her astonished uncle and laughed, covering her mouth.

He was so happy and shocked to hear her dad got into the milk powder factory; she wondered what his reaction would be when he learned he could also go to work there.

"Really? That incredible niece of mine!" Wang Yongsheng admiredly gave a thumbs up to Bai Ruxue.

"Not only my dad, uncle, but you also prepare yourself, there’s a job notice for you too!" Bai Ruxue took out the job notice she had planned to send him from her pocket.

Wang Yongsheng had studied until the third year of junior high before dropping out, so he was literate and had a decent education, and he read the job notice immediately upon receiving it.

And then... nothing happened.

He stood there dazed, eyes fixed on the job notice, losing the ability to react.

"Uncle, what are you thinking? Do you not want to go?" Bai Ruxue waved a hand in front of his face.

"Xiao Xue, how many job notices did you get?" Wang Yongsheng suddenly asked this question.

"Three, why?" Bai Ruxue had no idea what he meant by asking this.

"So your mom, dad, and I are going to work, right?" Wang Yongsheng seriously looked at Bai Ruxue. His sister had recovered from postpartum confinement, and it wasn’t impossible for her to go to work.

"No, I gave the other two to my second uncle and you! How would mom go to work while looking after the kids?" Bai Ruxue realized why he was asking.

"Sis, this is such a good opportunity; how can you not take it? Working at the milk powder factory means you won’t have to toil in the fields anymore! Let mom take care of the kids!" Wang Yongsheng urged his sister, "Why let me have this chance? I’m a man, I can handle hard work, I have the strength, but this opportunity should be for you!"

"Yongsheng..." Wang Cuihua didn’t know what to say. She had really wanted to go, but her eldest daughter told her to just take good care of the two kids, not worry about anything else, and that there would be future job opportunities, so she gave up the thought.

"Uncle, you should be the one to go; you’re at marriageable age, and if you find someone at the milk powder factory and settle down, grandma and grandpa won’t worry about you anymore! For now, mom should focus on raising the younger siblings; she doesn’t need to work! With dad and me making money, it’s enough for the family!" Bai Ruxue reassured her uncle.

He didn’t get immediately excited, thinking about becoming a city worker but instead was puzzled why his sister wasn’t taking such a beneficial opportunity for herself to give it to him.

"Kids... worrying about adult marriage already!" Wang Yongsheng’s face turned bright red, scratching his head, feeling very awkward.

"Uncle, my big sister is already an adult! She’s already engaged!" Bai Ru Yun, who hadn’t spoken, chimed in.

Bai Ruxue looked up at her; since when did this little girl become so talkative? Teasing uncle, even!

"Xiao Yun, who says being engaged makes someone an adult! Big sis is still a baby!" Bai Ruxue teased Bai Ru Yun to ease the awkwardness.

Meanwhile, Bai Ruying, who had been eavesdropping under the window, carefully snuck out of the courtyard and rushed home wildly.

Such a load of information—his uncle was going to work as a city worker, and there was even an extra ticket for their small uncle; he needed to hurry and tell his grandma.

As they were chatting, Grandma Bai rushed in, panting heavily, and started scolding.

"The job notice is for Dahe! You ungrateful fools, who dares to give it to someone else, try me?"

Wang Cuihua was taken aback by the scolding, unable to respond.

Bai Ruxue jumped to stand in front of Wang Cuihua, with Bai Ruxia and Bai Ru Yun on either side, protecting their mom from their mean grandma.

Wang Yongsheng stood up too, staring at Grandma Bai, not knowing what to say.
