Chapter 72: Chapter 72

DARAN

“What’s wrong with me? Why am I so restless? I haven’t even slept enough for the past few days, no, to be more precise, I haven’t slept at all.”

I couldn’t keep locking myself in my room, and I had to find out the cause of my restlessness immediately. I went out and went to the kitchen to find something to do.

“Ah… Ouch!” Jonea was seen groaning in pain while holding her stomach.

I stood behind her. I didn’t know what had happened to Jonea; I had gotten closer without realizing it but didn’t dare touch her.

“What’s wrong?”

“I don’t know, my stomach suddenly hurts.”

“Is it because you’re tired after I took you around and did so many things?” I felt guilty.

Jonea turned and looked at me. Her face looked so pale. She bent down while holding her stomach.

“Come on, I’ll take you to the hospital now.”

“No! No need,” she said while continuing to hold her stomach. She even looked more robust than before. “Tell me, what date is it now?”

“I’m sure it’s still the tenth. What’s wrong? Did you forget your promise?”

She shook her head while biting her lower lip.

“Daran, I think my condition will get worse today. I should go back to my room and rest. Please don’t bother me for a while.”

“What do you mean by ‘feeling your condition will get worse’? I don’t understand the language style of today’s young people.”

Instead of answering, Jonea ignored me and limped while holding her stomach. She went back to her room. I became worried seeing her condition.

She had utterly locked herself in her room all day. I couldn’t work and do my usual activities. I could only pace around the house while occasionally checking her door, which was permanently closed.

“How many hours has she locked herself in her room and not come out at all? Did something bad happen to her?”

“Uncle?” Owen greeted me, who had just come home. “What’s wrong? You’ve been sitting in front of Jonea’s door since morning. What’s wrong with you? You’re like a stalker.”

“Shut up! I’m just worried about her. This morning she complained of a stomachache and locked herself in her room. She didn’t come out at all.”

Owen pushed and grabbed my shirt tightly. He even glared at me. “Did you hurt Jonea?”

“Let go of your hand, young man!” I threatened. “How could I hurt my own bride-to-be? You better think of something and find a way to get Jonea out of her room. She told me that her condition might get worse today. I’m afraid it’s because of the magical energy that’s been coming to her lately.”

Owen hissed and glared at me instead. “If that’s really the case, then it’s all your fault! Why did you have to take her around the underworld?”

I pushed Owen’s hand away from my shirt. “That’s because there’s no one to guard her at home. None of this would have happened if you hadn’t made a mistake. How could the spirit of the tomb guard dog possess you? And you didn’t tell me anything!”

After a moment of tension, we both sighed heavily.

“Okay, we were both wrong and careless. Now quickly think of a way to save Jonea? I think her body is getting weaker.”

“Knock on her door, Uncle! Why are you so slow when it comes to women?” Owen quipped.

“Why should I knock on her door? She asked me not to disturb her. That’s why I can only sit in front of her room all day and watch her.”

Owen cursed silently. What a disobedient nephew! He massaged his head while spinning in front of me. He seemed to be making fun of me. Owen stopped and knocked on Jonea’s door quite loudly.

“What are you doing?” I complained.

“Just ask her how she is?” Owen replied.

I cleared my throat. “Jonea, are you okay?”

This must be my fault. Maybe I erased too many of her memories when we were in the land of the dragons. Maybe it affected her energy. But I wouldn’t be willing if I didn’t erase it. What if she remembered the dragon rider again? Even though I didn’t know what their relationship was like in the past.

“Jonea... are you sure you don’t need lunch? It’s almost afternoon. You haven’t eaten anything since morning. Should I buy your favorite food?”

“Please,” Jonea replied in a weak voice.

Owen and I exchanged panicked glances.

“She’s in pain. Her voice doesn’t sound okay,” Owen said.

The two of us immediately opened Jonea’s door together and rushed in. She was lying on the bed under her blanket. Her face was so pale, and she could be heard moaning.

Owen and I scrambled to approach her. Each of us stood beside Jonea’s bed.

“Do you have a fever?” Owen reached out to check Jonea’s temperature, but I slapped his hand away.

“Don’t touch her! Your hands might contain bacteria that will make her suffer even more.”

Owen glared at me.

I immediately sat on the edge of Jonea’s bed and held her hand. “Are you in pain?” I asked softly.

“Why are you fighting? I’m hungry but I can’t bear to eat anything. It hurts too much. I can’t take it.”

“We have to go to the hospital!” I urged.

“Did uncle hurt you?” Owen asked louder. “Just tell me straight if he did. I’ll settle accounts with him no matter how much he’s a lycan king.”

Owen sneered at me and glanced at me coldly.

“Please calm down. I’m fine. I don’t want to be taken to the hospital and treated by the dragons there.”

I held Jonea’s hand again carefully. “I’m sorry. I didn’t know you were this sick.”

“Daran why are you apologizing? You’re not my estrogen!” Jonea replied softly.

Once again, I was made to not understand the terms and expressions of today’s youth. I glanced at Owen and asked for his help. But Owen glared at me and gritted his teeth.

“You’re exaggerating, uncle. Could it be that you don’t know why Jonea is sick?”

Confused, I raised my hands and asked them to explain it to me. Owen looked away and let out a heavy sigh.

“I’m embarrassed to explain it,” Owen whispered.

“Have I made you guys misunderstand?” Jonea said. “I’m just having menstrual cramps.”

I was flabbergasted to hear that. “Oh, is that so? I don’t understand things like that. Then what can I do to help?”

“Let me do it!” Owen replied. He swiftly left the room. “I’ll get a hot water bag, food, and water for her to drink. You just stay there, uncle!”

I was so embarrassed and disappointed in myself. How could I not understand such trivial things? I was thinking about things that were too far away and had nothing to do with Jonea’s safety.

“Jonea, can you wait a moment?”

She nodded.

I went to buy medicine and supplements to ease her pain. When I was about to return to Jonea’s room, I ran into Owen, who was carrying porridge again.

“You better not go near Jonea!” I said. “My mood is already bad because of the dragon rider and I don’t want you to add to my irritation.”

“What do you mean Uncle? The one who is experiencing an estrogen attack is Jonea, but why is your mood bad? Are you also experiencing premenopausal syndrome?”

I took off my mask and glared at him angrily.
