Chapter 27: Chapter 27
JONEA
"What do you do there?"
Owen screamed so loudly I almost fell. I held on to the window sill very tightly.
Owen approaches me with big strides. If caught, he would attack me and throw me off the second-floor balcony.
I took a step back to take a swing when Owen opened his bedroom window roughly.
"Are you out of your mind? Why are you standing on my balcony at this hour? Explain to me, Jonea Rawling!"
"Of course, because I can't sleep!" I replied harshly. "This is all your fault! You said that I might die in six months. Imagine if you were me. Can you sleep well when you know death is in sight?"
Owen let out a few rough breaths. He even closed and opened his eyes repeatedly. He seemed to be trying to control himself before returning to face me.
"You said… I-will-die!" I repeated once again.
Until now, I never really imagined death would come this quickly.
What have I been doing all my life? What good things have I done? Meanwhile, I haven't been able to free Aland, who is currently still the captive of King Alpha. I can't just die.
"Please… Jonea! Go back to your room right now. My head hurts so much. I need rest, and you need rest too. Tomorrow we have to go to campus."
"Are you crazy?" I shouted in Owen's face. I'm crazy. "Why should I go to campus if I only have six months left? I must really make use of the remaining time for my greatest mission. Therefore, you must help me right now, Owen!"
He folded his arms across his chest and looked at me seriously. "What do you want me to do? What should I do to calm you down?"
"Please, Owen. Release the seal that shackles my power. Help me awaken the wolf inside me tonight. I really don't have time."
Without that power, I couldn't achieve my mission to save Aland.
I didn't say those last words to Owen. No one can know my true purpose.
Owen looks frustrated with me. I don't care. I should be the one feeling frustrated right now.
He raised his hands to stop me from continuing to talk and complain about everything I could complain about.
"The problem is… why did you have to appear on the balcony of my room? You can go through the door, can't you?"
I looked down, embarrassed. "If I go through the door, you will definitely ignore me. Didn't even open the door."
I lifted my face, and I showed him that I was serious. "So I better jump on the balcony of your room. Aren't our rooms next to each other? Come on, Owen. I know you can. Remove this seal from within me right now. You must know how!"
He narrowed his eyes.
I don't care. Here I am, the victim. I'm even more frustrated and depressed, considering my life span is less than half a year. And time goes on. I can't just sit around here doing nothing.
When I realized, my feet were already flying in the air. I screamed in confusion and fear. Owen carried me on his shoulders.
"Bastard bastard, let me go!"
I screamed as I kicked empty air and punched Owen in the back as hard as possible. I hit Owen's back with all my might and elbows and fists.
"Put me down right now! Get off me, asshole! What would you do? Why did you lift me?"
"Stop hitting me, and don't make any noise," Owen hissed.
He wasn't even affected by my punches. The muscles and spine are so sturdy. No matter how much I struggled and struggled, Owen held me easily. He still shouldered me and led me back to the room. He threw me on the bed, bouncing.
"Owen, this isn't funny!"
"I'm not kidding, Jonea!"
I tried to get out of bed. Owen pointed a hand.
"Stay there, or I will report to Daran!"
I was silent for a moment, then did not care. "Quickly tell me how to remove this seal?"
Owen moved his hands while casting a spell. I saw the windows and curtains closed tightly. I can also see runes covering my bedroom window.
I'm sure that window won't be able to open from now on.
Then I glanced towards the door. I jumped out of bed, ready to run. It's my only chance.
When my feet almost reached the door, suddenly, I couldn't move and seemed glued to the floor.
"What are you doing?" I said with difficulty. Because my lips can barely move. Only strange sounds that I can make from the throat.
With a tired and irritated face, Owen stood in front of me. He lowered his head slightly and said, "You better get back to your bed right now, Jonea. If you don't try to sleep for the rest of the night, I'll make sure tomorrow you can never wake up forever."
My body is as stiff as a mannequin. I can't do anything. I hate this magic.
Owen carried me. He easily laid me down on the bed and covered my body. I kept making weird noises instead of screaming and swearing. I also kept rolling my eyes to stop Owen's behaviour.
He doesn't care about my efforts.
"Stay here and sleep! I still have business outside."
After covering my body, he left the room and closed the door tightly.
***
OWEN
"GOOD GRIEF! SHE IS SO AWESOME. SHE'S TOTALLY AWESOME!"
I said it over and over again with a hissing voice after closing my own room door tightly. I've also made sure she sleeps peacefully and won't run off anywhere until morning.
Now I can't even sleep. That girl annoys me a lot.
I walked to the open window and headed out onto the balcony. The cold air might refresh my chaotic mind. I gripped the balcony railing and looked up at the night sky.
My Adam's apple jumped. I wanted to howl as loud as I could. But my howl might invite Luke Draken's hunters. If they come here and find Jonea, my years of cover might be wasted.
How long will they not know that we – the Lycans – still exist in this country. We are gathering strength and ready to seize leadership from Luke Draken at a later date.
"Who is that man in the alley? His presence really annoys me a lot. The scent feels so strong. His existence really bothers me."
A faint howl came from the bushes in the farthest yard of the house. My night vision is very sharp. I can clearly see them from this distance. That's a calling for me.
I climbed up and stood on the balcony guardrail. My head was down, looking at the ground level nearly four meters below.
I leaned slightly forward. I jumped into the free air in the darkness of the night.
My body feels stretched. My bones seemed to be ripped out in all directions. When I flipped through the air in just a second, my body changed. I landed on ground level, all four legs covered with thick fur.
The two wolves waiting in the bushes are now kneeling before me. I moved my muzzle slightly to signal them to report whatever they found.
"We've captured the fleeing warlock, Alpha."
"What information did you get from that warlock?"
"He said the wolf that attacked him in the alley was a lycan."
"Impossible!"
"Even the Warlock didn't notice the wolf's appearance. He doesn't look like a hunter."
"Lycan?" I growled softly. "I didn't smell any lycan on that guy. But I know he has unusual strength for a werewolf. Supposedly, traces can still be traced. He won't be going far from that area."
"We've been trying to track him down, Alpha. But we completely lost track of him. It's as if someone accidentally deleted it.
"Fuck! I will go back there and find out with my own hands."
I run through the night. The windswept all over the hairs that covered my body. My steps and movements feel so light in this form. Behind me, the two wolves followed. Their steps are quite fast. They also try to match me.
I didn't have to worry about wandering around in wolf form ever since Blue Sapphire was possessed by Luke Draken. Because this country has turned into a land of werewolves. I must be good at disguising my scent and body size, clearly different from the werewolves. I can't roam freely in my true form, or Luke Draken's hunters and warriors will kill me. Because I'm a lycan.
We return to the alley where Jonea was attacked.
"Alpha!" shouted one of the Betas, who followed me from behind. "Be careful with the threats ahead."
"I know! I realized that too."
I slowed down my running pace and became alert. I stopped at the end of an empty alley, and my four claws gripped the ground firmly.
The two betas who escorted me behind did the same thing. We were confronted by something completely unexpected.
