Chapter 36: Chapter 36

Ethan Sanders. This man had adopted me from the orphanage. He was a middle-aged man who was thinking that he was not capable enough to continue his business.

From what I knew, he didn't have an only son to inherit his fortune, so he decided to adopt me.

He was a man who was very determined and made the best of his spare time. He would not let any time slip from his grasp other than to make coffers of money.

I just did what he wanted me to do. Since morning I'd been busy with all my bussiness matters, then came home from my office, I continued with additional lessons and after that, I took a course with my foster father about the world of business.

I really hadn't mastered about business properly.

Comparing to when I was lived in the orphanage with my new home was quite different. I felt depressed here, but what else I could do? Maybe it was what I should do for my future.

I didn't realize that the afternoon was approaching. Realizing I had not visited Janielle and Alia I immediately ran out of my room. Usually, every morning before I did my activities, I visited them, but that day I felt so tired after all the burden tasks that I had to bear.

I took my jacket then immediately asked my driver to take me there. My driver memorized every destination I went to, maybe he was bored because my goal was always the same place.

Before that I stopped by to buy some chocolates for little Alia. She really liked chocolate, even though her teeth were starting to hollow from eating sweet things. Sometimes Clarissa scolded me for this.

I couldn't wait after finally arriving at the orphanage. Before meeting Alia and Janielle, I met some nannies there. I gave the chocolates I bought for the other little kids there.

They were all really my real family.

"Hey, you came so late today. Usually you come here early in the morning." Clarissa greeted me by cradling the baby in her arms.

"I haven't had the time this morning, so I can only come now." I smiled faintly at her then she nodded.

"You better meet your girls. Their hopes began to fade when you didn't show up this morning."

"It's a good idea." I ran to their rooms just to found they weren't there.

"It's like someone's looking for us." Janielle's voice was heard, making me turned my body.

Janielle and Alia were holding hands acting as if they were ignoring me. "Uh-huh, but he brings a chocolate. I can't keep pretending to ignore him." Alia chuckled as she ran to me.

I caught her in a hug then gave her, her favorite chocolates.

"See? I got this Janielle." She turned her body towards Janielle, showing her what she just got.

She just smiled in response and walked towards us. "We have been waiting for you since morning, why did you just come now?" Janielle put her hand on her hip.

I smiled slightly at this girl. I didn't know since when, but what I knew was she had managed to steal my heart from me.

When I was two years old, she was a baby and for the first time she lived in this orphanage. I held her perfect little hands and also kept watching her and accompanying her to play. She grew up to be a cute girl, unfortunately she often wanted a mother's love.

There was nothing I could do but accompany her all the time I had.

Her black hair sparkled for a moment she let them loose and her black eyes glowed every time she looked at me.

I'd loved her for a long time but didn't dare to tell her, I was sure she was just thinking of me as her best friend. It wouldn't be more than that.

"You know my father, he gave me additional lessons about business again." I swallowed hard so that my voice didn't sound as bitter as what I felt.

I just held back my voice which was starting to hoarse from the discomfort.

It was clear that Janielle's face softened. This expression was what always making me calm. I bit my inner cheek to quickly take my eyes off her.

"Hey Haytham, will you accompany me to meet Jennie?" Little Alia asked me again, "Since earlier Janielle and Clarissa forbade me. They are so cruel! They don't want to accompany me there while I still need supervision to get there." She whined.

"Then you don't need to go there!" Janielle chirped.

I stood up and approached Janielle, "Will you accompany me and Alia go there?" I gave her my sweetest smile. A moment later I noticed her cheeks flushed before she finally turned around and left Alia and me.

"I think Janielle went to ask Clarissa another pass." Alia tugged at the hem of my jacket, "Let's follow her."

Asking Clarissa for permission to go was tough enough. Moreover, it was already late in the afternoon, we were forbidden to go out. However, here I was as a visitor so I could take responsibility for these two girls.

"See what I bring for you?" I had a few more cookies that I forgot to give to Alia earlier.

"Thank you." Alia replied as she took them.

"Alia, come hold my hand." Janielle was holding hands with Alia. They were my family, the people I trusted the most. Janielle was always motherly to Alia even though she was only nineteen years old. I laughed every time I saw her behavior.

We walked towards the park which was quite close from the orphanage.

The air was blowing so hard, I looked up and saw the dark clouds, "It's going to rain anytime soon." I crouched down in front of Alia, looking at her face, "Hey Alia, how about we go home? I promise I'll buy you more chocolate plus your favorite barbie."

"I don't want to. I want to see Jennie." She immediately shook her head. I understood that she loved Jennie a lot, but it would rain soon. I was afraid she would get sick later because of the rain.

"It's going to rain, Jennie must be hiding." Janielle tried to persuade Alia which of course it didn't work.

The little girl in front of me remained firm with her stance, "No-no, I'm going there to see Jennie's condition."

I stood up and sent my gaze to Janielle, hinted her to agree to Alia's wish. Secretly, I was hoping that it wouldn't rain soon.

The park was so quiet because there were no children playing at this time of the afternoon. Alia quickly looked for the cat that had been bothering her for a long time. I didn't know where the cat was, I was having a hard time finding it. It was nowhere to be seen.

Alia was looking for it near the swing, but there was never any trace of the cat presence, "Jennie? Are you there?"

"Alia, I promise tomorrow we'll come again to check on Jennie. But for now we have to come back." Janielle said with her hands held out as if she felt raindrops dripping.

"But, what if Jennie is caught in the rain and cold? What if she dies because of that?"

I crouched down again then rubbed her tiny head while saying, "Trust me, she can take care of herself."

I grinned when she was nodding slowly after feeling the rain water dripping right on her forehead, "Wohoo, rain shower."

I pulled her hand as she was running when we were out of the park, "Alia be careful."

She laughed when I sent her my almost had a heart attack expression.

"It's raining, yuhuuuu."

I kept calling Alia who crossed arbitrarily, for a moment I wanted to run towards her ... Janielle first ran towards the little girl.

"Janielle, what are you doing?" I didn't know what Janielle had in mind. She just pushed Alia until the girl fell.

I prepared to cross to get to Alia, what I found was a light beam. I looked to the source and found a car at high speed about to pass. For God's sake! Janille was still right in the middle of the road, "Get out of the road!"

My eyes looked at the horror in every scene that crossed right in front of me. Everything felt in slow motion. My heart was beating faster and faster than usual.

My legs couldn't even move. My chest felt so heavy with my eyes slowly watering. Without realizing it, I screamed as loudly as I could when the slow motion was now lightning fast.

Alia screamed and I immediately ran to her and then hugged her. She cried with chase, until the trauma lingered after that. I couldn't help but pull Alia aside to a safe place and ran for help.

However, I found a woman driving that car. She was drunk. I immediately approached her but she tried to run away and almost hit me.

It was all really a nightmare for me. With my condition getting weak, I ran to the orphanage which was quite close and asked for help. I didn't even dare to look at Janielle's condition. I was filled with all fear.
