Chapter 1743: Chapter 1743: You Dare Come Again
Sure enough, there was someone sitting behind her desk.
Bai Sulì pretended not to know and walked over: "Please move, this is my desk."
The girl looked up at the newcomer: "Oh, you must be Sister Bai, sorry, I’ve been reassigned to work here. If you have any questions, you can go to the director."
Bai Sulì’s face changed, and she glanced around at the others in the office, but those who usually got along well with her were all avoiding eye contact.
She turned around and walked to the logistics director’s office in the back, and lightly knocked on the door: "Director, are you there?"
The person inside recognized Bai Sulì’s voice and cleared his throat: "Come in."
Bai Sulì walked in: "Director, why is there someone at my workstation?"
The logistics director got up to pour himself a glass of water: "This is the decision from above, and it’s just your bad luck. Someone came for an inspection while you happened to be on leave, and the timing wasn’t great.
Recently, we’ve been busy with logistics, and the leadership just assigned someone over, I couldn’t help it. You can either take a few more days off, or if you don’t want to, I can find a temporary position for you first. Later on, if there’s an opening, I’ll transfer you there.
You’re a veteran employee; I believe you have that level of understanding. Besides, even if you move to another position, I believe you can do well. After a few more years, you’ll retire and have to make way for the younger generation anyway."
These words were both carrot and stick, clearly meant to prevent her from making a fuss at the plant.
Bai Sulì felt like she was going to explode inside. It was obviously intentional, but thinking of the part about retiring in a few more years, she suppressed her anger.
The director was right; she couldn’t make a mountain out of a molehill, but she couldn’t swallow this insult. She glanced at the director: "Director, I understand your difficulties. In that case, I’ll continue my leave because I’m not fully recovered."
After leaving logistics, the more she thought about it, the angrier she became, and she headed straight to Director Chen’s house.
It so happened that Madam Chen was about to go out, and the two met at the door.
Bai Sulì spoke: "Oh, going out?"
Madam Chen’s face fell when she saw Bai Sulì: "You still dare to come?"
"Why wouldn’t I dare? Didn’t I kindly try to introduce a daughter-in-law to your family? We agreed back then to let the two kids meet. If they got along, they could continue; if not, we’d let it be.
But what did you do? Before anything was settled, your son went to her school claiming to be her boyfriend, and then got beaten up. How is that my fault?
Because of this, the girl complained to her family, and of course, her parents were upset. They came to the plant and reprimanded me. What did I do to deserve this?"
This was indeed what the Chen Family had heard, and they felt it was as Bai Sulì said. It was their fault for not acting as agreed, but seeing their youngest son’s injuries...
They still argued: "It was you who proposed matchmaking. What’s wrong with us checking in advance? How were we to know the girl would be so rough and start a fight, leaving my son bedridden?
My son can’t handle such a girl. A college student with no manners, she probably won’t find someone to marry like that. She’s a savage."
Bai Sulì spoke: "Since you don’t want it, let’s pretend I never suggested it. But I’ve already suffered a scolding, and now even my desk has been taken. Please, on account of my good intentions, put in a good word with Director Chen for me.
I’ll be retiring in a few years. Those temporary positions really don’t suit me. Please, I’m begging you."
Madam Chen initially felt sorry for Bai Sulì’s plight, and her earlier anger dissipated somewhat, but upon hearing her request, she grew wary. There were still work groups in the plant, so certain things must not be spoken by her.
So she replied: "I don’t agree with what you’re saying. What does your reassignment have to do with us? Today you’re accusing my husband on purpose, what are you scheming?"
