Chapter 58: Chapter 58
Alice frowned at the fox girl. “How exactly?”
Momo puffed her chest proudly. “That fish came from the depths when I collected some water, it launched from under the water so fast toward my face but Momo was faster! It really pissed me off. So I caught its tail and slammed it to the ground, head first! Hence why the head was crushed, hehehe.”
Alice shuddered, coldness ran through her spine just from imagining it. This small example provides her with the explanation of Momo’s seemingly unlimited stamina during sex. She wouldn't stop unless her heart was full and satisfied.
‘Note to self, never anger Momo. Never!’ Alice took a mental note silently.
“Cecilia, Kahleesi, prepare the dishes. It's almost done…” Catharina quipped while lifting the fish out of the flame.
Once the grilled fish was portioned into manageable pieces, Momo smacked her lips just by looking at the fatty, juicy meat on her plate. To balance out the much needed nutrition for Momo, Catharina also added some wild vegetables in the mix.
“Let's dig in!” Momo immediately stuffed her mouth with a piece of meat. She moaned blissfully when the juices squirted inside her. “Mmmhhh! It's so sweet, savory, it tastes like butter, yet not greasy at all. I love it! I think this is the best fish I’ve ever had.”
Meanwhile, Arya poked the meat a few times with a fork before she finally put a piece inside. “Wow! You are right… The meat is firm, yet it immediately melted as you sink your teeth into it. If this fish ever entered the marketplace in Nidaross… I couldn't even begin to imagine how much profit we could get just from one fish!”
“Always straight to business, huh?” Alice remarked.
“You taught me well, m’lady.” Arya let out a ladylike chuckle. “But the problem is, how do we catch fish this big while the river is so strong?”
“We don't catch them in the wild.” Alice said, putting a piece in her mouth. “We herd them into a water reservoir, and fish them out. And to build a water reservoir, we would have to build a dam. A very huge one.”
“A dam?” Momo tilted her head.
“Yes, a dam. A very huge and tall structure to block a river’s flow. Essentially, we are making a man-made lake out of the existing river by stopping the flow at its choking point. Preferably between two narrow valleys.” Nᴇw novel chapters are publɪshed on 𝕟𝕠𝕧𝕖𝕝~𝕗𝕚𝕣𝕖~𝕟𝕖𝕥
Arya was simply amazed by Alice’s wisdom and advanced knowledge. “As expected from my lady. You are way ahead of us. I am wondering what kind of business endeavor we will build in Nidaross. I am so excited!”
“Not just any endeavor, my dear Arya. But a business empire. Not just in the Arlenheim Kingdom, but the whole continent. Eventually, we will reclaim our home.”
Everybody shared the same sentiment, especially Momo and Arya who had lost their homes to the Holy Crusade thirteen years ago.
As they enjoyed their hearty meals, a sharp and long cry of a bird echoed through the night. It wasn't an attack of a bird-type monster, it was a distress call of a beast that was cornered.
“What happened?” Momo stood up, entirely forgetting the meal she was eating. Her fox ears perked up.
“It's the Flame Mockingjay's cry. He’s hurt! He is being hunted by humans!” Arya’s pupils widened to its maximum capacity. She could now see through any object clearly as if she was watching the bird from up close.
“He must be being hunted by the Adventurer right now.” Alice explained briefly.
Arya nodded to confirm Alice’s guess.
“Should we check it out?” Momo suggested. “Seems like our lady elf is very concerned with the bird. Besides, she hasn't finished her sketch just yet. You won't let that happen, right?”
Alice scratched her chin for a moment. “You got the point, Momo. It's decided then, let's check it out. But don't get your hopes too high. That bird might have died by the time we arrived. Let's observe the situation first and see what we can do.”
Everybody nodded in unison. Agreed to save the Flame Mockingjay.
“Kahleesi, Guard the camp. Cecilia, with me.”
“Yes, Lady Catharina.” Answered the succubus huntress.
“We will follow you from above just in case there's another Adventurer Party.” Catharina spread her wings and soared high, followed by Cecilia.
“Hurry…” Arya ran westward. Her lithe frame weaved through the dark forest agilely. “This way!”
The bird’s cry became clearer as the deeper they went. Arya grew more anxious as the adventurer voices echoed throughout the forest.
“There!” Arya spotted four people carrying magic torches amidst the darkness followed by a series of magic bolts shot toward the fleeing Flame Mockingjay.
On the other hand, the distressed flaming bird moulted its fiery feathers in its flight path to obstruct the pursuers, spreading a trail of fire.
“Your Majesty, those amateurs would end up causing wild fire at this rate!” Catharina warned from above.
“What a bunch of idiots!”
Alice opted to jump in front of Arya before she did something reckless.
“Stay with Momo.” Alice commanded. “Kahleesi, protect them. Catharina, watch the perimeter.”
“Affirmative, Your Majesty.” The white haired succubus descended from the tree, cloaking the two inside her Barrier Spell. No one could see them from outside but they could see what was happening.
“No, the bird… I need to—”
The fox girl promptly held Arya’s shoulders. Stopping her from being detected by the Adventurer Party. Momo understood Alice was being cautious of their safety.
“Let's wait from a safe distance.” Momo suggested. “Alice knows what she's doing.”
Meanwhile, the Flame Mockingjay had moulted all of his flight feathers and eventually fell from the height.
As the bird crashed onto the tree, the Adventurer Party cheered aloud as they saw a huge ball of flame rolled on the ground.
“The bird is down! Kill it! But don't break its heart!” Said the party leader.
“Roger that! Leader!”
The archer of the party aimed his arrow toward the helpless bird, he grinned from ear to ear as his sight found its target.
“Please don't resent us, birdie! Hahaha!”
Everybody was shocked when the magic arrow was easily deflected by something hard but they couldn't sense any presence other than them.
And of course, Alice was very cautious to not display her scythe before them. She intended to avoid any meaningless killing.
