Chapter 409: Chapter 409
"Fine, you’re not going to open the door, are you?" Quinn Lockwood gritted her teeth, and an unreasonable impulse shot up from the depths of her mind.
She opened the car door, intending to jump straight out of the car.
"Savannah Lowell!" Elias Sinclair was startled by Quinn Lockwood’s bold action, and he slammed on the brakes, bringing the car to a halt.
Quinn Lockwood’s body was slammed back into the seat due to the inertia from the sudden stop, causing her chest to ache painfully.
The man’s eyebrows knit together with a thick layer of icy coldness. He turned his head to look at Quinn Lockwood with deep anger, only to see her eyes glistening with tears, her shoulders trembling slightly.
Elias Sinclair suddenly panicked, his hands fumbling in midair, glancing around the car before hurriedly grabbing tissues from the drawer.
He awkwardly reached out to wipe Quinn Lockwood’s tears, but as soon as he cleared one layer, more tears streamed down to take its place.
Elias Sinclair pressed his thin lips together, suddenly feeling that what he had just said was somewhat excessive. He parted his lips, trying to say something.
But now, he seemed at a loss for words.
He tossed the soaked tissue aside and quickly grabbed a few more, gently wiping Quinn Lockwood’s face.
But after only a few wipes, Quinn Lockwood forcefully knocked his hand away.
She lifted her arm, wiped away the tears from her face, her eyes red from crying, and pitifully sniffed with her lips pouting.
She cast Elias Sinclair a cold glance, said nothing to him, and stormed out of the car in anger.
The chilly autumn night wind carried a bone-chilling coldness, and as it blew on Quinn Lockwood, it seemed to clear her mind for a moment.
But that moment of clarity was quickly replaced by overwhelming grievance and anger. After a few steps, tears began to fall again, no matter how she tried to wipe them away, they continued to flow, forming an unending cycle.
Elias Sinclair sat in the car, watching all of Quinn Lockwood’s movements.
Although he was angry, now he felt more at a loss and astonished.
He didn’t know how to call out to Quinn Lockwood or stop her tears.
Besides, with her stubborn nature, she definitely wouldn’t come back with him.
Elias Sinclair’s deep, dark eyes swirled with complex emotions, as deep and mysterious as a well of ice. He pressed his lips tightly together, only starting the car to slowly follow her from a distance after she had walked away a bit.
Quinn Lockwood sniffed, pulled tissues from her bag to wipe her nose, and then called Xenia Monroe.
She needed someone to talk to now, to vent the suppressed emotions.
Realizing something was off in Quinn Lockwood’s tone and mood, Xenia Monroe didn’t even change out of her loungewear, throwing on a coat and rushing out to pick her up.
Following the directions Quinn Lockwood gave her, Xenia Monroe drove swiftly to the location. As she stopped the car, she saw Quinn Lockwood standing alone by the flower bed, and Elias Sinclair stood not far behind her.
Xenia Monroe seemed to vaguely understand what had happened and got out of the car to approach Quinn Lockwood, questioning Elias Sinclair with her eyes.
"Is she mad?" Xenia Monroe mouthed the words, pointing in Quinn Lockwood’s direction.
The man did not respond, merely walking alongside Xenia Monroe towards Quinn Lockwood.
"Savannah, I’m here." Xenia Monroe softly called out to Quinn Lockwood, feeling an inexplicable tension in the air.
Hearing Xenia Monroe’s voice seemed to bring a sense of comfort to Quinn Lockwood. She turned around and hugged Xenia Monroe tightly, her gaze falling to the ground, where she saw a pair of black custom-made shoes.
Then the familiar black suit of Elias Sinclair, followed by his cool, enigmatic face.
Quinn Lockwood’s expression immediately turned cold again. She stood up, brows furrowed and turned her gaze away.
She definitely wasn’t going to deal with this man.
"Ah, um, Savannah, let’s go home first. Look, I didn’t even change my clothes before coming out. It would be so awkward if someone recognized us." Xenia Monroe quickly took Quinn Lockwood’s hand, leading her toward her car.
In this situation, it’s probably best to keep the two apart for a while.
As they brushed past Elias Sinclair, Xenia Monroe winked at him, as if saying, "I’ll take care of her."
The man’s eyes were dark as night, betraying no emotion. He said nothing, almost as if he was consenting for Xenia Monroe to do so.
Until Xenia Monroe’s car drove away, Elias Sinclair stayed rooted to the spot.
His gaze was as profound as a mysterious ocean, calm on the surface but concealing waves of emotion threatening to surge forth at any moment.
Quinn Lockwood slumped in the seat, feeling somewhat relaxed for the first time.
She sniffled, looking out the window.
The neon signs inside the glass windows along the street lit up consecutively. The car sped past surrounding shops, the various lights sweeping back and forth. Though it was a scene of bustling prosperity, to Quinn Lockwood at that moment, it only served to highlight her sense of loss and sadness.
The two quickly returned to Xenia Monroe’s home. After freshening up a bit, Quinn Lockwood curled up on the sofa and recounted what had happened in Elias Sinclair’s office.
"Savannah, don’t be sad." Xenia Monroe looked at Quinn Lockwood’s still-red eyes and felt her own heart ache in sympathy.
"I don’t think things are as they seem. Maybe there’s some misunderstanding here."
"You and Mr. Sinclair have been together for so long. When have you seen him act improperly with any other woman? He’s always been an ascetic, emotionally reserved man, who would never cheat or have an affair."
Xenia Monroe patted the back of Quinn Lockwood’s hand, gently comforting her while analyzing Elias Sinclair’s personality and character.
What Xenia Monroe said wasn’t just to comfort Quinn Lockwood; Elias Sinclair’s character was truly as she described.
When Quinn Lockwood heard Xenia Monroe describe Elias Sinclair as ascetic and emotionally reserved, her cheeks flushed slightly for a moment.
Flashes of last night’s passionate scene suddenly appeared in her mind, causing her to blush deeply.
He wasn’t... he wasn’t like that at all.
But following that fervent and ambiguous moment, the scene in the office resurfaced in Quinn Lockwood’s mind, bringing a sense of irony and heartbreak.
The suggestive marks on her body seemed like brands of punishment.
"But... but why was that woman in his office, and why..."
Moreover, she was very beautiful, and Elias Sinclair allowed her to embrace him.
