Chapter 400: Chapter 400
Elias Sinclair listened to Grandpa Sinclair on the phone, his face almost freezing over.
It turned out that Nina Sinclair sensed something was off with her brother tonight and, fearing Quinn Lockwood would encounter a storm of anger, she called Grandpa Sinclair to report the situation.
Grandpa Sinclair was originally enjoying a leisurely fishing trip with some old friends at a resort in Vancroft. Upon hearing his granddaughter’s report, he hurriedly called Elias Sinclair to inquire about the situation, unwittingly interrupting the ’good times’ of two people.
"Yes, Grandpa, it’s just due to company matters, nothing to do with Savannah," Elias Sinclair’s eyes deepened as he narrowed his long, phoenix-like eyes dangerously. He got up, walked to the room door, and glanced up towards Nina Sinclair’s room upstairs.
After hanging up, Elias Sinclair didn’t see Quinn Lockwood in the villa. Upon discovering that her bag hanging by the door was gone, his expression turned cold instantly.
As for Quinn Lockwood, after going out, she directly took a cab to Xenia Monroe’s apartment.
"Stop with the nonsense and get up quickly. I’ll be at your house in ten minutes! If you accidentally fall asleep, I’ll send your ugly photos to Dylan!" Quinn Lockwood gritted her teeth and threatened Xenia Monroe, who was deeply drowsy on the other end of the phone.
She had no choice. She didn’t want to threaten Xenia Monroe either, but what could she do with someone who was a born sleep god, able to fall asleep anywhere anytime once drowsiness hit?
"Oh no, no, don’t, I’m already up. I’ll wash my face and come down to get you. At this hour, probably only small bars are open. How about a quiet seat downstairs?" ᴛʜɪs ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ ɪs ᴜᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ ʙʏ ɴovelfire.net
Xenia Monroe was rummaging through the clothes in her closet while holding the phone, talking to Quinn Lockwood.
"Anywhere is fine. I’ve already arrived at the apartment complex. You have five minutes to come down," Quinn Lockwood pouted. She didn’t care where to go; she just wanted someone to talk to and complain about Elias Sinclair’s atrocious behavior.
"Okay, okay, I’m coming, coming, let me hang up first and get dressed." Xenia Monroe quickly pulled out two pieces of clothing, said this into her phone, then tossed it onto the bed and started dressing quickly.
Even though Xenia Monroe was fast, Quinn Lockwood still waited for her downstairs for more than ten minutes.
"Sorry I’m late; I rushed over as fast as I could!" Xenia Monroe said with a crying face, sprinting to Quinn Lockwood. She remembered how she was forced to accompany Savannah Lowell shopping all day once due to being late previously.
She dreaded shopping the most; walking for a whole day was simply exhausting.
Quinn Lockwood rolled her eyes at Xenia Monroe, naturally saying nothing and certainly not blaming her for making her wait too long.
After all, it was she who suddenly visited without prior notice to Xenia Monroe, especially since it was already midnight, and technically, there was no need for her to come out.
"No problem, no problem, let’s go. Let me tell you, today..." Quinn Lockwood, pulling Xenia Monroe along as they walked outside, began to grumble about Elias Sinclair’s inexplicable flare-up today.
Xenia Monroe took Quinn Lockwood to a bar near the apartment complex, ordered some snacks and a few cocktails, and continued listening to Quinn Lockwood’s complaints about Elias Sinclair.
The more Xenia Monroe listened, the deeper the aunt-like smile on her face grew. She always thought Quinn Lockwood was particularly bright and smart, as if nothing could stump her, nor was there anything she couldn’t understand.
But now, it was different—Xenia Monroe thought Quinn Lockwood was also a fool.
Mr. Sinclair’s expressions were so obvious, yet she couldn’t see through them!
Quinn Lockwood babbled on for more than ten minutes, finally venting her anger. She picked up the cocktail with red lips in front of her, drinking more than half in one go, pouting and looking at Xenia Monroe, only to find her smiling.
"Why are you still laughing?" Quinn Lockwood scrunched her little face, seemingly puzzled by Xenia Monroe’s schadenfreude.
Xenia Monroe smacked her lips, deliberately showing off a mischievous smile as she took a gentle sip of the red wine in her glass.
"Oh dear, someone’s brain really isn’t functioning well. Mr. Sinclair is clearly showing signs of jealousy, how come you can’t see it?"
Xenia Monroe propped her chin, looking at Quinn Lockwood with a face exuding a "how can you be so dumb" expression.
Hearing Xenia Monroe say Elias Sinclair was jealous, Quinn Lockwood was momentarily stunned.
Quinn Lockwood recalled that Elias Sinclair had frequently acted lately. Did that mean he was often jealous recently?
How... how is that even possible?
Thinking about Elias Sinclair’s domineering, passionate kisses, Quinn Lockwood’s face instantly flushed red.
Xenia Monroe noticed Quinn Lockwood’s oddness, covered her mouth and quietly chuckled, then sat upright, silently observing her expression.
Oh my, she’s blushing.
"So, tell me honestly, do you like Mr. Sinclair?" Xenia Monroe raised an eyebrow, teasingly and expectantly looking at Quinn Lockwood.
"From what I see, Mr. Sinclair has liked you for quite a while. Last time, when he came to pick you up from my house in the middle of the night, I could already see how much he cared about you.
Quinn Lockwood’s heart tightened suddenly, although her face still displayed a calm and indifferent expression, the hand hanging by her leg was tightly clutching the corner of her clothes.
"I... just think that sometimes he’s too domineering." Quinn Lockwood did not directly answer Xenia Monroe’s question, not because she didn’t want to, but because she honestly didn’t know how to face this question.
If she said she didn’t like him, it wouldn’t be the truth; if she said she did, it felt strange—that heart-thumping, involuntary redness feeling.
Moreover, saying the word "like" doesn’t come so easily, especially in front of her best friend.
Truthfully, she even felt somewhat guilty towards Elias Sinclair for deliberately approaching Jonah Hansen.
As Mr. Sinclair, a ruler over the business world, it must be quite embarrassing for him to have a wife who repeatedly got tangled in somewhat ambiguous relationships with someone else’s fiancé and even got caught up in scandals time and again.
But, Quinn Lockwood had to do so for now.
She had yet to make Ariana Lynch and Jonah Hansen pay with their blood, yet to reunite with her father, yet to achieve her goals and dreams.
For now, whether she recognized her father or achieved her dreams didn’t matter as much anymore.
As long as she could take revenge for herself and her mother, bring down Ariana Lynch and Jonah Hansen, that would be enough.
She just didn’t expect Elias Sinclair to be jealous because of Jonah Hansen.
