Chapter 236: Chapter 236
Quinn Lockwood instinctively shook her head, wondering how she could have such thoughts. There was no real affection between her and Elias Sinclair; even if they occasionally took care of each other, it was just a charade.
But even thinking this way, Quinn still felt uncomfortable in her heart.
"Did I hurt you?" Elias thought she suddenly shook her head because he had touched her wound, and he was slightly nervous, his fingertips trembling unconsciously.
Quinn looked up and met the man’s deep and sharp yet cautiously gentle gaze, her eyelids fluttering slightly, unsure if it was due to nervousness or fear that her thoughts would be seen through.
"No, no." Quinn’s pink lips pursed slightly, and she quickly shook her head.
"Um... it doesn’t hurt anymore, thank you." Her almond eyes seemed misty with moisture as she gazed at Elias Sinclair’s exquisite and handsome face, and her heart inexplicably began to tighten.
The man lightly lowered his gaze at the woman blushing, a peculiar feeling flickering in his heart, as if something ineffable was quietly striking the strings of his heart, creating ripples.
He put away the ointment in the medicine box. The man then turned to put the box in the cabinet, but Quinn suddenly grabbed his arm.
"Don’t... don’t go, I’m... I’m scared." Her eyes flickered in panic, and she furrowed her brows slightly, her tender pink lips bitten to a faint red.
Thinking of how she had been nearly suffocated earlier, Quinn was overcome with lingering fear. If Elias hadn’t been there, the consequences would have been unimaginable.
"I’m not leaving." Elias placed the medicine box on the sofa and sat down beside Quinn to keep her company.
Secretly glancing at Elias, Quinn’s lips curled into a slight smile, which she didn’t even notice herself.
Gently leaning her head on the man’s shoulder, Quinn curled her legs up, feeling an unusual sense of stability and safety.
Elias’s eyes shone with a charming light, his brows relaxed, carrying a light smile.
The flickering lamp cast shadows as the room was filled with nothing but the sound of their breathing, and suddenly the weight on his shoulder shifted. Elias raised his hand to catch Quinn’s head, realizing she had fallen asleep.
He gently brushed away the stray hair in front of her eyes. Elias stood up, picked up Quinn, and as if startled, she quickly snuggled closer to him, holding him tightly.
Smoothly carrying her upstairs, Elias pushed open the door to his room and gently placed Quinn on the bed.
"Don’t be afraid, I’ll stay with you." His fair hand softly stroked her forehead, then he lay down beside her, gently patting her back like comforting a child.
Quinn’s tightly furrowed brows slowly relaxed, and her grip on Elias’s arm gradually loosened.
Elias couldn’t help but frown, then gently pulled Quinn’s arm closer to him.
The bright moonlight spilled into the room, casting a serene yet tender light over the man looking at the pure, adorable woman sleeping in his arms, evoking a feeling of tranquility.
As the morning sun shone into the room, Elias’s fingertips traced gently across Quinn’s face before he rose slowly, taking care not to disturb her slumber.
Changing into a black tailored suit, Elias’s face turned cold and distant as he walked out the door.
Elias descended into the basement, observing a man in black lying dust-covered in the corner, his eyes narrowing dangerously, signaling a brewing storm.
Seated on a leather chair already prepared, Elias snapped his fingers, prompting two uniformed guards to approach him.
"Wake him up." Elias’s expression was cold as he looked toward the corner, leaning back in the chair and resting his head in one hand.
The guards obeyed, stepping forward to pull the man’s head up and punched him in the face.
"Ugh!" A painful grunt escaped as the man opened his eyes. Upon seeing Elias before him, his eyes flickered unnaturally, trying to lower his head, only to be forced to look up as a guard yanked his hair.
"Who sent you?" Elias’s fingers tapped lightly on the armrest, his eyes chilling.
The man tightly pursed his lips, desperately lowering his eyes as if he heard nothing.
Elias raised an eyebrow slightly, his face darkening, his black eyes filled with anger as he sternly said, "It seems the lesson you were given last night wasn’t enough."
"Think you’re too at peace lately that your methods lack force?"
His icy gaze swept over the guards, his tone laced with anger making them shiver and promptly reply, "Sorry, Sir. We request to increase training intensity and will not disappoint you again."
Elias’s face remained tense, his long legs crossed on the table, and he spoke slowly with a cold tone, "I’ll give you one last chance. Tell me who sent you."
The man stayed silent, his head bowed, leading Elias to snap his fingers again.
Within seconds, a man in a white lab coat and blue mask wheeled in a cart filled with syringes and surgical tools.
"Sir." The man respectfully bowed to Elias, nodded, and stood by his side awaiting orders.
With his legs crossed, Elias’s eyes narrowed and he flicked his hand, instructing, "Find a way to make him talk."
A few more guards came in with ropes and quickly hoisted the man upside down, then lined up neatly behind Elias.
Angus nodded, stepped forward, and grasped the man’s jaw, dislocating it with a push. Follow current novels on ⓝovelFire.net
"Don’t worry, I’ll fix it later." Angus’s lips twisted into a sinister smile, his white coat making him look more like a devil from another world than a healer.
He picked up a scalpel and made a light incision on the man’s wrist, and crimson blood slowly trickled down.
Unimpressed, Angus tossed the scalpel aside, picked up scissors, and deeply cut into the flesh along the incision.
With his jaw dislocated, the man could only groan, his teeth gritted, his whole body trembling slightly from the pain.
