Chapter 111: Chapter 111
"Savannah, don’t blame yourself too much, Dad will be okay," Cameron Grant quietly comforted her as he walked to her side.
At that moment, the doctor walked out of the ICU, and Quinn Lockwood hurriedly stepped forward to inquire.
"Mr. Lowell experienced a blood clot dislodgment due to likely emotional agitation, leading to a coma. We’ve administered thrombolysis, but we’ll need further observation," the doctor patiently explained, then took a consent form from the nurse and continued, "Thrombolysis does carry certain risks. Only one family member is allowed in the ICU at a time, so who will sign?"
"I will. I’m the patient’s daughter. I’ll take care of my dad," Quinn Lockwood said, taking the consent form from the doctor and quickly signing her name.
Mrs. Lowell saw her anxious demeanor and felt reassured. She looked at the doctor and worriedly asked, "Doctor, I’ll leave my husband in your hands. Is there anything else..."
"Please don’t worry, Mr. Lowell isn’t in serious condition. If thrombolysis goes well, after some rest, he should wake up soon," the doctor quickly explained upon seeing her hesitation.
"Can I go in now?" Quinn Lockwood asked the doctor as she stood by the door, looking back.
"You can go in now, Miss Lowell. The patient needs rest above all, so please maintain a quiet environment," the doctor reminded her of some other precautions before leaving with the nurse.
Quinn Lockwood walked into the ICU, looking at Mr. Lowell lying with his eyes tightly shut on the hospital bed, still connected to various monitors and IVs. Her eyes started to well up, and an overwhelming sense of sorrow filled her heart.
She approached the bed, carefully tucking in his covers, moved a chair beside him, and focused on watching the monitor’s vital signs and the IV fluid.
Quinn Lockwood spent the entire night in her pajamas sitting on that chair. The next morning, when she went out for water, she saw Cameron Grant still waiting in the corridor, giving her a start.
"Cameron, have you... been here all along?"
"Yes, Savannah, has Dad not woken up yet?" Cameron Grant rarely frowned, yet he lacked the oppressive aura of Elias Sinclair.
"Not yet. Cameron, you should go back and rest with Mom. I can take care of things here," Quinn Lockwood was also worried about Cameron Grant’s health. She observed his expression and added, "Cameron, don’t worry, I’ll take good care of Dad." Chapters fırst released on Nov3lFɪre.ɴet
Cameron Grant paused, looking at Quinn Lockwood’s weary face, feeling an odd sensation passing through his heart. Still, he said nothing and nodded.
Quinn Lockwood hadn’t slept for a full night and day, and she hadn’t changed her clothes, still wearing the slippers from home. Just as she was about to sit down and rest again, Mr. Lowell woke up.
"Doctor, doctor, my dad is awake!" Quinn Lockwood quickly pressed the call button by the bedside.
Mr. Lowell slowly turned his head, seeing Quinn Lockwood in her pajamas, with messy hair, feeling slightly moved.
"Dad, how do you feel?" Quinn Lockwood leaned closer to Mr. Lowell, asking cautiously.
"It’s okay... just a bit thirsty..." Mr. Lowell’s voice was still weak. Quinn Lockwood carefully helped him sit up and fed him water, spoon by spoon.
Mr. Lowell slightly lifted his gaze, seeing the worry on his daughter’s face, feeling a twinge of emotion swell in his heart.
At that moment, the phone rang, but Quinn Lockwood continued to feed Mr. Lowell water, and after helping him lie back down, she went out to return the call.
"Kevin, what’s up?" The girl’s tone seemed a bit impatient.
"Miss Lowell, did you forget about today’s endorsement? Mr. Sinclair wanted me to..." Before Kevin could finish, Quinn Lockwood interrupted him.
"I’m not taking it, cancel it," she replied, not waiting for a response before hitting the end call button. She then informed Mrs. Lowell and Cameron Grant that Mr. Lowell had woken up.
Kevin relayed Quinn Lockwood’s words verbatim to Elias Sinclair, who furrowed his brow, sensing something was off, and immediately drove to The Lowell Residence.
"Cameron, what’s going on?" Elias Sinclair called Cameron Grant.
"I’m at The Lowell Family, and the butler said Dad is in the hospital?" Elias Sinclair’s eyes narrowed slightly, his tone chilling.
"The address," he demanded coldly before heading to the hospital.
"Elias, you’re here..." Mr. Lowell felt somewhat refreshed after the doctor administered another infusion.
"How are you feeling?" Elias Sinclair approached the bedside, his gaze still deep and indifferent.
His eyes glanced toward Quinn Lockwood, noticing her disheveled hair and pale complexion. Her entire demeanor seemed drained, surprising him as he watched her for a while.
"I feel fine, just need some rest," Mr. Lowell replied, glancing at Elias Sinclair, then following his gaze to his daughter’s haggard appearance, feeling an indescribable ache in his heart.
"Dad, Elias, Savannah," Cameron Grant and Mrs. Lowell entered the ward.
Elias Sinclair nodded as a form of greeting.
"Savannah, go eat something. You’ve been here so long, even an iron body couldn’t take it," Mrs. Lowell said, holding Quinn Lockwood’s hand with care.
Quinn Lockwood shook her head, saying, "Mom, I’m not tired. Dad hasn’t eaten yet. I’ll feed him first and then go."
She sat by Mr. Lowell’s bed, with Cameron Grant pulling her up, gripping her shoulders, and with a serious expression in his gentle eyes, said, "Leave this to me. You go change and then eat something."
Quinn Lockwood wanted to say something, but Mr. Lowell’s voice came through, "Savannah, go tidy yourself up first. Cameron and your mom will take care of things here. Elias, can you take her home?"
"Alright." Elias Sinclair’s single word effectively silenced Quinn Lockwood. Though she was somewhat reluctant, since Mr. Lowell had spoken, she had no choice but to freshen up.
Once out the ward’s door, Elias Sinclair stopped Quinn Lockwood’s steps.
"Why didn’t you tell me about this?" His eyes held a touch of sternness, and his tone was somewhat harsh.
"Why should I? Isn’t this a family affair?" Quinn Lockwood felt confused. Surely, even Elias Sinclair wouldn’t need to know everything about her family affairs?
"A family affair?" The man’s brow arched, and the temperature around them seemed to drop instantly.
"Isn’t it...?" Quinn Lockwood looked at his expression, involuntarily taking a step back.
The man simply gave her a cold stare, noticing the slight darkness under her eyes and her weary state. He pressed his lips together and led her out of the hospital.
This was Quinn Lockwood’s second time falling asleep in Elias Sinclair’s car.
While waiting at a red light, Elias Sinclair gently draped his jacket over her.
When they returned to The Lowell Residence, Quinn Lockwood asked Elias Sinclair if he was in a hurry to get back to work. If not, she would like him to wait for her a bit since she planned to return to the hospital afterward.
