Capítulo 1296: Chapter 1296: A Call from Home
Stepping out of the house, Shen Mianmian saw Li Shiping return and asked, “Sister Shiping, have you found a suitable storefront?”
“Not yet,” Li Shiping shook her head. “I saw one today but wasn’t very satisfied, though it’s temporarily on the rental shortlist. The location sounds good. Your brother mentioned a new shopping center opening in another place, he’ll take me to see it tomorrow.”
“That sounds good, I trust my brother’s judgement. I feel reassured if you go with him,” Shen Mianmian said. “Lu Nian’s film will start shooting soon. I need to review the script and rehearse with Xiaoxi at home, so I won’t be able to join you. After you confirm it, I will take a look!”
Li Shiping initially wanted to invite Shen Mianmian but then retracted her invitation, saying, “No worries, you should prioritize your work. I can go with your brother. It’s just that I may trouble him a bit.”
“My brother has been less busy lately; consider it a little vacation for him,” Shen Mianmian said.
Li Shiping chuckled, “Well, it might be quite a tiring vacation for today.”
She pulled Shen Mianmian onto a stool and recounted the day’s events. Shen Mianmian was surprised to hear that there were still people living under bridges in Beijing. It must be tough for a woman with a child. Probably Li Shiping, feeling empathetic, really wanted to help Ma Fenyu. ʀᴇᴀᴅ ʟᴀᴛᴇsᴛ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀᴛ 𝓷𝓸𝓿𝓮𝓵•𝑓𝑖𝑟𝑒•𝙣𝙚𝙩
She sighed and said, “In a few days when I’m free, let’s go to the hospital to visit her!”
“Okay,” Li Shiping nodded in agreement, then asked, “Are you hungry? Shall I cook something for you?”
“No need, I’ve made some porridge. When Big Brother He and Xiaobei return, I’ll just add some cold dishes. Recently, I haven’t had much of an appetite and prefer something light.” Shen Mianmian had only been nauseous a few days ago, now even a slight odd taste could make her feel like vomiting. She didn’t recall it being this hard when she was pregnant with Xiaobei; she was puzzled about what was different this time.
Xiaocui mentioned that if it’s a girl, the morning sickness might be more intense. Shen Mianmian didn’t know if that was true, but she hoped it was a girl; after all, having Xiaobei already, she, like many parents, hoped to complete the set.
Li Shiping teased her, “You’ve lost a lot of weight recently, Xiaonan feels so bad seeing you eat so little each time.”
Thinking of He Nan caring for her made Shen Mianmian smile as well. Unlike many successful people, He Nan’s favorite pastime, aside from work and essential socializing, was spending time with her and Xiaobei, taking them out to eat, exploring newly developed scenic spots, or just staying home with them doing homework and watching TV.
Or visiting Grandfather He, who sometimes joked that He Nan was living like he was retired.
“Being a bit thinner now is okay, to avoid having to lose weight after pregnancy.”
Just as Li Shiping was about to reply, her cellphone suddenly rang. Seeing it was a call from home, she smiled, “It must be the kids missing me.”
After she answered, however, it was Xiu Min’s voice on the other end.
“Shiping, how have you been there recently?”
“Pretty good,” Li Shiping said. “Went to check out a storefront today, saw a decent spot, but Director Ruan mentioned a new mall, so I’m thinking of checking it out tomorrow.”
“That’s good.” Xiu Min seemed hesitant, as if she wanted to say something but was unsure whether to speak.
Li Shiping, sensing something unusual from Xiu Min’s tone, asked, “Mom, did something happen at home?”
