Chapter 290: Chapter 290: Legs Turning Soft One After Another (2/5)

The tea from her family was quite expensive, but she had tried this kind, and none had a better taste. Moreover, this tea made her feel exceptionally comfortable after drinking it, so a casual quote of one million per half kilogram was just a shot in the dark for her; she really didn’t know the actual price, "I’m not very knowledgeable about the market either. How about I ask around for some information?"

He Yiran said a lot, but Mei Mengzhen only grasped one sentence: it surely must be one million per half kilogram. She was utterly flabbergasted. She and Fan Tianyu had planned to sell it for ten thousand per package, yet He Yiran could casually suggest one million per half kilogram. What kind of sky-high priced tea was this?

"What’s wrong? Is one million per half kilogram too little? I also don’t think it’s that high, which is why I said I would inquire about it," He Yiran said, assuming the price was on the lower end since she hadn’t heard any response from Mei Mengzhen. But seeing Mei Mengzhen’s expression, it seemed that was not the case.

"Does tea really make that much money? Or is the price of tea really that high? It wasn’t this expensive when I checked online," Mei Mengzhen asked, puzzled.

With a look that implied Mei Mengzhen’s naivety, He Yiran laughed, "What can you find online? That’s all stuff the general public sees. The tea we drink isn’t visible to most people, the price is higher, and of course, the quality is better. My family even auctioned off a piece of Ban Zhang Zhen Cang Qing Bing outside."

Mei Mengzhen didn’t understand such professional names and looked at her cluelessly. He Yiran explained in very simple terms: "It’s a Pu’er Tea Cake, 18 million per kilogram. Actually, I think that tea isn’t even as good as yours. Why not just set it at ten million? Your Dahongpao might really fetch that price, or even higher. Of course, I don’t know either, maybe what I’m saying isn’t correct."

As He Yiran spoke, she really started to believe it, and thus made the suggestion with earnestness.

Mei Mengzhen almost collapsed right then and there, as He Yiran’s price jumped from one million to ten million. Her small heart couldn’t take it. "Yiran, wait a second, I need a moment to process this."

He Yiran looked at her with an air of ’why are you so timid,’ but she was just that timid, "Ever since meeting you, my understanding of the world has been shattered. I had no idea tea could sell for such exorbitant prices."

She truly had never heard of such a thing, "So that means the tens of thousands worth of tea you drank before is actually cheap tea."

He Yiran nodded, "It’s not exactly cheap. What I drink is usually in that price range. My grandfather wouldn’t even let me drink the really expensive stuff. I only get to taste it when she brews it; wouldn’t want to waste it on me."

Seeing Mei Mengzhen looking so unambitious, He Yiran sharply asked, "So how much were you initially going to price your tea leaves at?"

Mei Mengzhen glanced at He Yiran, worried she might faint if she heard the original price, so she inflated the initial price heavily before saying, "One million, I was going to set it at one million. But I feared that setting it too high would drive customers away. Now it seems it might’ve been just fine."

He Yiran rolled her eyes, clearly not buying her bluff, "Tell the truth, what were you really planning to set the initial price at?"

Mei Mengzhen licked her lips, hesitating, before finally admitting in a low voice, "This batch was actually meant for personal gifts, so I didn’t ask about the cost price. They only told me this stuff wasn’t abundant, hence the high price. I don’t even know the cost price myself until now, so I just quoted a price off the top of my head."

Pausing for a moment, Mei Mengzhen then said to He Yiran, "Ten thousand per package."

A package contains half a kilogram.

As soon as Mei Mengzhen said this, He Yiran almost collapsed just like her. After all, the difference between ten thousand and one or ten million isn’t just a few zeros.

"You’re something else. Lucky you asked me, or you would’ve lost big time."

"That’s what I thought," Mei Mengzhen replied. "I didn’t know the cost price, I didn’t have the goods on hand, who would sell something so haphazardly?"

Still, the pricing was enough to make her legs go weak.

...

On the way back to school, they supported each other’s weakened legs and finally arrived at the cafeteria after a tough journey.

It wasn’t the dinner rush, and the place wasn’t too crowded. After the two ordered their meals and sat down, He Yiran started discussing the tea business with Mei Mengzhen, clearly indicating that since Mei Mengzhen was worried about not selling much in the store, she should just let her handle it.

"You always have me sell the cream. Let me sell the tea as well. I can raise the price, and we split the profit, eighty for you, twenty for me."

Mei Mengzhen thought it over and felt it wasn’t a bad idea, "If you really want to sell it, there’s no need for that. After deducting the cost, we can just split the profits fifty-fifty."

This was still more profitable for her. In truth, the hardest work would fall on He Yiran, who would have to run around and promote the product. Of course, the methods of the He Family Young Lady would definitely differ from what she knew, but it was hard work nevertheless. Each would take on their role, share the tasks, and splitting the profits evenly seemed quite fair considering the business couldn’t scale too large and was limited edition, there was no need to quibble too much.

"So does that mean you agree?"

"Alright, let’s give it a try, since it’s all set up already."

...

Having agreed to it, Mei Mengzhen started collecting tea leaves that same evening.

She gathered while the plants grew, and in almost the same time it takes vegetables to grow, she acquired a large crate of tea leaves, which she then processed.

After being busy for a while, Mei Mengzhen collected 10 bags of Taiping Houkui and 10 bags of Dahongpao. After processing, they were packed like before, with one kilogram per bag. Hearing what He Yiran had said, she couldn’t help but plant another Pu’er Tree.

Due to time constraints, this wasn’t a small sapling but a mature tree planted directly in the soil. After nurturing it for a couple of days to absorb the space’s spiritual energy, she could harvest immediately. When buying it, the label indicated that the effects would be the same as those grown from a sapling, but whether that was true remained to be seen.

She also planted many other saplings like Longjing, Biluochun, Maojian, and the like.

Just like other trees, tea trees take a week to grow from saplings to maturity; these would have to wait.

But for the Pu’er Tea, she really wanted Grandpa He to taste and compare it to the 18-million one to see if hers was better.

After all the hustle, an exhausted Mei Mengzhen simply fell into sleep.

...

The next two days were filled with exams, which she found more relaxing than regular classes since the extra time let her busily attend to her own matters in her space.

Remember the herbs planted in the black soil a month ago?

A month had finally passed, and the herbs were grown and ready for harvest.

These harvested herbs and vegetables quietly lay next to the black soil, waiting for their owner to sort them out.

True to expectations, Mei Mengzhen used her thoughts to collect the herbs into the thatched cottage and then replanted the seeds to prepare for the next batch.
