Chapter 492: Chapter 492

The next morning, Wan Chu’er woke up early. She listened carefully but didn’t hear any sounds of Chuanqi and Hunter waking up next door, rather she heard noises from the courtyard.

She smiled slightly, surely Mrs. Zhu was up early cooking, and the old gentleman was doing his boxing exercises in the courtyard.

Since having her two little ones, she hadn’t done morning exercises in a long time. Moved by a thought, she quickly got up, washed up, dressed in sportswear, and went to the courtyard. Indeed, the old gentleman was slowly practicing his boxing under the old locust tree. Without making a sound, she found a spot nearby, did some warm-up exercises, and then joined in.

The scene of the grandfather and granddaughter practicing boxing under the tree looked very harmonious and warm.

Ever since his granddaughter started standing beside him, the old gentleman’s facial expressions softened a lot, and the corners of his mouth were continuously turned up. When Mrs. Zhu came to call everyone for breakfast and saw the old gentleman’s cheerful demeanor, she was quite surprised.

Indeed, although he doesn’t say it, deep down he really misses Chuchu!

After breakfast, the old gentleman asked Li Shan to drive Wan Chu’er and her two sons to the Jiang Family’s compound in Beijing. Hunter held great Grandpa’s hand all the way to the door.

"Great Grandpa, please ask Uncle Li to take good care of that pistol for me, I’ll play with it when I return."

The old gentleman kindly replied, "Of course."

Chuanqi also added in a sweet, childish voice, "Great Grandpa, wait at home for me and my brother, I will bring you something tasty when I come back."

The old gentleman was even more pleased, and lovingly patted Chuanqi’s head, "Understood, great grandpa’s little Ya is so good." Chuanqi then squinted her eyes with a smile; she could now fully feel others’ affection for her.

Upon reaching the compound, before the car even approached, they saw Mrs. Jiang and Grandma Jiang waiting at the door.

Mrs. Jiang craned her neck anxiously looking out while Grandma Jiang curiously looked at Mrs. Jiang, then towards the distance, appearing quite amused.

As soon as the car stopped, Mrs. Jiang called out "Xiao Zhuo," "Xiao Ya," walked up to the car, opened the door, and personally picked Chuanqi down. Chuanqi, well-behaved as always, though it had been a long time, smiled sweetly and gave her grandmother a loud kiss on the cheek, leaving Mrs. Jiang beaming with joy.

"Grandma’s little Jiaojiao, so good, did you miss grandma? Grandma bought you lots of toys and lots of tasty treats."

Chuanqi blinked her bright eyes and in her sweet voice said, "Xiao Ya missed grandma a lot." This made Mrs. Jiang even happier.

Wan Chu’er found it quite funny yet exasperating; this little clever girl, so sweet-talk, charming everyone as if they should treasure her like dear life.

Little Hunter was more reserved. He disdainfully glanced at his sister, calling her a sycophant, then solemnly greeted Mrs. Jiang, "Hello, Grandma." He then bypassed Mrs. Jiang and bowed slightly to greet Grandma Jiang, "Hello, Great Grandma."

Grandma Jiang chuckled and dug into her pocket, pulling out a handful of colorful candies, and silently stuffed them into Chuanqi and Hunter’s hands.

"Thank you, Great Grandma." The two little ones politely thanked her simultaneously. However, as their mom had said they could only have one candy a day, they merely swallowed their saliva without unwrapping to eat.

Only then did Wan Chu’er smile and said, "Mom, we’re back, how have you been? How’s everything at home?"

Mrs. Jiang, clutching the chubby Chuanqi with some difficulty, laughed and said, "All’s well, it’s good you’re back, come inside. Your dad went to work, but he kept instructing me to have you stay longer and wait for him to come back from work. The old man is inside."

Wan Chu’er slightly raised her eyebrows, unsure if Mrs. Jiang was deliberately hinting something to her or just casually mentioning it. After thinking it over, she took it as the latter and smiled, "Alright, Chuanqi and Hunter also miss grandpa."

She then turned to take the gifts Xiao Yu had prepared for the Jiang family from the car, told Li Shan with a word and had him drive back.

Mrs. Jiang, naturally knowing Li Shan and aware that Old Sir Zhong had taken him as his godson, smiled and said, "Xiao Shan, stay for the meal before you leave."

They had just finished breakfast when they set off, and it was still early for lunch. Staying to eat at the Jiang Family meant waiting for several hours. Li Shan, who never liked nor was adept at social interactions, faintly smiled and said:

"Let’s not bother you any further, I must go back to accompany the old master."

"Alright then, take care on the road, and come over for a meal with Old Sir Zhong next time, and send my regards to the old master," Mrs. Jiang could only reply.

During this brief exchange, Mrs. Jiang really could no longer hold Chuanqi, so she said, "Xiao Ya, Grandma can’t hold you anymore, can you walk by yourself? Next time when Grandma has more strength, I will hold you again."

Upon hearing that, Chuanqi struggled to get down. "Grandma, I can walk by myself." In fact, nowadays, she and her brother mostly walked by themselves; their mother told them that they were already big kids.

Mrs. Jiang carefully set her down and praised her, "What a good child." Then, she took one child by each hand, called out to Wan Chu’er, and walked towards the house. Follow current novᴇls on NovєlFіre.net

Wan Chu’er smiled, freeing one hand to pull the dazed Grandma Jiang, and followed inside.

Inside, they found Grandpa Jiang majestically seated in the living room, his hands on his walking sticks, his face tightly stretched.

Wan Chu’er respectfully called out, "Grandpa, we have returned."

Who knew the old man would humph at her, "You still know to come back!" He then turned to Chuanqi and Hunter speaking in a lecturing tone:

"This is your true home. Your grandparents both live here. From now on, you two should stay here and not leave."

Wan Chu’er narrowed her eyes, said nothing; throwing a tantrum with this old man wasn’t worth it. After all, this home wasn’t ruled by his word, she would do whatever she wanted, why bother arguing with him.

She wasn’t the penniless little sparrow of her past life; now she was quite wealthy herself, especially after seeing the assets Xiao Bai showed her last night, she felt all the more confident.

Mrs. Jiang quickly gave Wan Chu’er a look, signaling her not to take the old man too seriously, then smilingly told the two grandchildren:

"Call him great-grandpa."

Reluctantly, Chuanqi and Hunter muttered, "Hello, great-grandpa." Their tiny faces were tight; they didn’t great-grandpa who scolded their mom and them.

Grandpa Jiang, oblivious to the children’s sulking, just haughtily grunted.

Mrs. Jiang, playing the peacekeeper, quickly pulled Wan Chu’er and the two grandchildren upstairs, where enjoyable toys and snacks for the children were all prepared.

Once in the room, Mrs. Jiang gently said, "Xiao Chu, don’t take your grandpa’s words to heart, old people become more like children, temperamental on a whim."

This was really none of Mrs. Jiang’s concern, Wan Chu’er naturally wouldn’t let her mother be caught in the middle and bear the brunt, she curved her lips, "Mom, as long as you don’t think the same way as grandpa, I’m fine."

Mrs. Jiang hesitated, then somewhat sheepishly said, "That... No matter where you live, this here is your home. When people age, they yearn for their grandchildren around them. I heard Ke Chu is away on a business trip, could you perhaps stay longer in Beijing this time? Let me and your dad see more of Xiao Ya and Xiao Zhuo, they have grown so much and become even more endearing."

Was this because she went straight to the old house upon arriving and not the main residence? It seems the earlier words outside were indeed Mrs. Jiang hinting at her.

Alright, she understood the affection grandparents have for their grandchildren, Wan Chu’er could only respond, "This period, I will bring Chuanqi and Hunter here more."

Hearing Wan Chu’er say this, though Mrs. Jiang felt a hint of regret, she did not insist, smiling as she nodded, "Alright." She too hoped Wan Chu’er would bring the two grandchildren to stay here, but it seemed Xiao Chu was not very willing.
