Chapter 418: Chapter 418
On a small path near a block of single apartments, a nondescript gray car sat parked by the road.
Inside the car, Mai Qiqi’s head nodded off, until it banged against the car window, jolting her awake.
"Chuchu, what time is it now? When are we going to make our move?"
Wan Chu’er opened her feigned sleepy eyes, her face calm, and she checked her watch.
"We can go now. You wait here in the car."
"Huh?" Mai Qiqi said, "Can’t I come with you?"
Wan Chu’er glanced at her, "Can you climb from the first to the fifth floor along the pipes?"
Mai Qiqi shook her head in disbelief, "No."
"That’s why you need to stay in the car."
Wan Chu’er slung her backpack over her shoulders, pulled the brim of her hat down, looked around at the silent night, then swung open the car door and darted toward the bottom of the apartment building.
Mai Qiqi nervously watched the swift figure disappearing in the distance, feeling both exhilarated and admiring.
Tonight, Zhuo Yao wasn’t at home; she’d gone to a hot spring resort in the suburbs with Jiang Kefei.
This apartment building had decent security measures, the lobby was under surveillance, and she didn’t want to leave any trace, so she could only go over the wall.
Wan Chu’er agilely climbed to the edge of Zhuo Yao’s window, took out a thin tool from her pocket, fiddled with it for a moment, and the window latch opened.
She pushed the window open, flipped inside, and her feet and hands were protected to not leave any marks.
The room was filled with a choking perfume scent. Wan Chu’er lifted the cloth covering her face a bit higher, scanned the room, and when she found a black bag in the cupboard, she raised an eyebrow and opened it.
Inside the bag were five stacks of cash, which appeared to be fifty thousand Yuan. Wan Chu’er did not hesitate to toss the money into her own bag.
Besides money, there was a disk, which had been hid so securely that the contents were likely shady. Wan Chu’er thought for a moment, then also stashed the disk in her own bag.
After failing to find anything else useful, she quickly installed hidden cameras and listening devices in the bedroom and living room.
After setting up the equipment, Wan Chu’er meticulously wiped away any evidence of her presence and returned the way she came.
The twenty minutes had been somewhat unbearable for Mai Qiqi, but when she saw Wan Chu’er’s figure reappear against the dark wall, she was surprised again.
She thought Wan Chu’er would take at least an hour, but it had only been twenty minutes.
Could something have gone wrong?
Before Mai Qiqi could finish that thought, Wan Chu’er had already opened the door and gotten into the car.
"How did it go? Did you run into some problems?"
Wan Chu’er put down her backpack and revved the engine, "Done. We just head home and wait for the show to start." ᴛhis chapter is ᴜpdated by novel⦿fire.net
After her meticulous observation, Zhuo Yao was not exactly an upright person, occasionally bringing people over for the night, which is why Chuchu resorted to surveillance.
Mai Qiqi was extremely impressed, "Where did you learn all this from? You’re even better than the female spies in the movies. I don’t care anymore, in this life, I’m sticking to your coattails."
A faint smile appeared on Wan Chu’er’s lips. When the old man trained her in the past, it was indeed according to the demands of a spy. Unfortunately, in the end, she missed her chance.
After returning home, the two washed up briefly and then fell sound asleep.
The next morning, when Mai Qiqi woke up and followed the scent of food downstairs, she saw Wan Chu’er sitting in the dining room with an open laptop in front of her, and a playful expression on Wan Chu’er’s face.
"What’s up? Is there already a good show to watch?" Mai Qiqi rushed over, now very interested in Zhuo Yao’s affairs.
But Wan Chu’er shook her head, "The food is in the pot, help yourself. Zhuo Yao hasn’t come home yet."
The floppy disk inserted into the computer was the one she got from Zhuo Yao the night before. It contained evidence of financial fraud by Zhuo Yao’s ex-boyfriend’s father.
Zhuo Yao really had guts, considering the sum of the money involved in tax evasion which amounted to tens of millions, and there were even records of bribing certain leaders. God knows what she planned to do with this evidence.
As Wan Chu’er looked over the fraudulent accounts, several ideas flashed through her mind but they weren’t satisfying enough.
Mai Qiqi served herself a bowl of rice and asked, "What are your plans for today?"
"I’m going to the old house to see the kids later. What about you?"
Mai Qiqi sighed. An Zihao still hadn’t contacted her, seeming as if she didn’t know what else to do other than wait.
Seeing her , Wan Chu’er couldn’t help saying, "Why don’t you just call him and ask? It’s excruciating to wait around !
Mai Qiqi, this isn’t like you. We’ve already sent him Chu Xueli’s information, yet if he still acts this way, what are you expecting?
If you ask me, you should go back and talk to your cousins about this situation, let them teach An Zihao a lesson. From then on, whoever he wants to fool around with, it won’t be your concern."
Mai Qiqi shooed her with her hand, "If you’ve nothing else, just go see your kids, I need to think some more."
It sounds easy but the years she had spent with An Zihao were not so easily erased.
Wan Chu’er shook her head and said no more, and went to the old house.
After two days, Mai Qiqi finally went home. She had a big argument with An Zihao, who not only didn’t break up with Chu Xueli but also blamed Mai Qiqi for meddling and slandering Chu Xueli, causing her so much distress that she almost committed suicide.
Mai Qiqi, who was also an arrogant person, couldn’t stand it and decided to cut ties on the spot. After crying all night, she went back to her mother’s home.
Wan Chu’er had Zhuo Yao under surveillance for a week and, after getting what she wanted, sneaked back into Zhuo Yao’s apartment to remove the cameras and listening devices.
She first sent Zhou Yao’s collection of risqué photos that could rival the Ruby scandal to her former lovers, including Jiang Kefei, and even to Second Uncle Jiang and Second Aunt Jiang.
That day, Second Aunt Jiang was flaunting to her colleagues in the office, "This bracelet was given by my son’s girlfriend. She heard it was my birthday and spent two months of her salary to buy it for me. Look at this ruby, isn’t it pretty?
The young girl is not only beautiful but also knows how to behave, she’s generous and respectful. In today’s society, it’s rare to find a girl with such character. I’m just waiting for my son to marry her."
"Sister Chen, your documents." Just then, a young man who specialized in document delivery handed a large envelope to Second Aunt Jiang.
Second Aunt Jiang opened it and said with a smile, "Wow, speak of the devil and he shall appear. I wonder what the young girl has bought for me this time."
The other day she had hinted to Zhuo Yao that she liked to listen to Italian opera, and there happened to be a foreign opera troupe performing in Beijing. It was possible that the envelope contained tickets for the opera performance.
Second Aunt Jiang tore open the envelope with pride, and as she carelessly threw away the strip of paper she ripped off, the contents of the envelope scattered all over the floor.
