Chapter 406: Chapter 406
Chuchu didn’t pay any attention to her and turned around to go upstairs to change her clothes to go out.
When she came downstairs with her briefcase in hand, Jiang Lingling was actually still wiping away tears, while Mao Xiaoyu sympathetically offered her tissues.
"Where are you going?"
Seeing Chuchu about to leave, Jiang Lingling was stunned. As soon as she arrived, Chuchu was leaving, which showed a clear disregard for her. So, she quickly blocked the door and asked.
Chuchu rolled her eyes, "Do you think everyone is like you? Having nothing to do all day, just waiting to eat, drink, and be merry, and then dress up in pretty clothes?"
Jiang Lingling was taken aback and wiped away her tears, retorting, "You’re no different, are you? You’re not working outside either, nor taking care of the kids at home. Taking advantage of my cousin’s absence, just fooling around."
Chuchu lost her patience, "None of your damn business, step aside."
Chuchu glanced at her coldly, originally wanting to kick her out of the way, but since she had changed into a suit and skirt, she couldn’t extend her leg. So, she had to use her hands to push Jiang Lingling.
Jiang Lingling stumbled from the push, and Chuchu walked out. At the doorway, she added:
"Get your wedding dress and get out. Don’t loiter around my place causing unnecessary chaos."
Jiang Lingling felt deeply scorned by Chuchu. Biting her lip and glaring at Chuchu’s retreating figure, she started chasing after her a few seconds later, not even caring for the wedding dress anymore.
She refused to believe that Chuchu could be up to anything important.
Chuchu watched in silence as Jiang Lingling took it upon herself to climb into the car, "Get out!"
She had serious matters to attend to today and certainly didn’t have the time to deal with Jiang Lingling’s nonsense.
"I won’t." Jiang Lingling frantically buckled her seatbelt and then clung to the backrest of the front seat, "I just want to see what you’re up to."
"What I’m doing has nothing to do with you, does it?"
"I..." Jiang Lingling was at a loss for words; what Chuchu did really had nothing to do with her, but she couldn’t swallow her pride. In a rare moment of quick wit, she said:
"Our agreement says that I have to help you with one task every month. Today, I’ll be your assistant."
She silently applauded her cleverness. Today she was determined to follow Chuchu to see what she was really capable of.
Chuchu glanced at the time, realizing that if she didn’t leave right now, she would be late, so she had no choice but to command sternly:
"An assistant should act like one, not always as if someone owes you a million dollars. Can’t you pretend to be gentle and obedient? Even if you haven’t eaten pork, you’ve seen pigs run, right? Learn from Lin Jiayi’s usual demeanor, put on a pretense of fragile grace."
Jiang Lingling: "..."
In order to follow Chuchu, Jiang Lingling had to suppress her anger, thinking of her cousin’s mannerisms and putting on a smile.
Chuchu disdainfully said, "Barely passable. When you meet people later, just keep it that way, otherwise don’t blame me for being rude."
Jiang Lingling was so angry she wanted to glare, but when she saw Chuchu squinting her eyes with mockery and saying, "What’s the matter? Can’t even pretend such a simple thing? If you can’t, then leave." So she had no choice but to continue forcing a smile through clenched teeth.
Wan Chu’er finally turned her head, ignited the car, but her heart secretly reveled a little.
Bullying the thorn Jiang Lingling felt really good.
Wan Chu’er drove with expert skill, but her driving style was too wild, making Jiang Lingling cling onto the seat back the whole way, her heart on a roller coaster ride, scared out of her wits.
After the car stopped, Jiang Lingling weakly hurried to get out.
"You... I’m going to tell my great-aunt and great-uncle that you drive like a maniac," Jiang Lingling managed to say tremblingly after a while.
"Hmph." Wan Chu’er couldn’t be bothered with her and walked away directly; she would never admit that she had done it on purpose just now, to scare Jiang Lingling, the seemingly fierce but actually timid weakling.
Jiang Lingling hurried to follow. It took her a good while to realize they were on a university campus.
The first university Wan Chu’er chose was an ordinary polytechnical one. She planned to first make Xiao Bai’s name known in average universities, and then go to prestige schools for a gold-plating touch.
They made their way to the office of the student affairs department. Normally, things like campus speeches would be handled by the student union, and some sponsorship would suffice, but she decided to talk with the student affairs department first for caution’s sake, since the student union was under their jurisdiction.
Before entering, Wan Chu’er stuffed the document bag into Jiang Lingling’s hands, "You know how to be an assistant, don’t you? I don’t need to teach you that, right?"
Stung by the comment, Jiang Lingling blurted out: "Of course, I know."
She tried to recall the assistants around her parents, resolved to speak less and smile more. She was curious to see what Wan Chu’er was actually up to.
An hour later, Wan Chu’er was leaving the student affairs office with a bright and cheerful expression, shaking hands with the leadership. Two students from the student union accompanied Wan Chu’er to the auditorium to check the venue, confirm the time, and discuss promotion details, all with great respect and cautiousness.
Jiang Lingling tried to maintain her composure, yet deep inside she was extremely shocked; she had never seen Wan Chu’er showing such a pleasantly warm and friendly face.
Usually, towards their own family, she was either expressionless or haughty.
When leaving the school to head back, Jiang Lingling couldn’t help but say: "You are so nice to strangers. Why can’t you be a bit nicer to our family?"
Wan Chu’er snorted disdainfully, "I have requests to ask of others, naturally I need to be nice to them. Your family, apart from being sarcastically odd, only wants to take advantage of me and your cousins, my uncle, and aunt. What else can they do?"
Jiang Lingling was taken aback again; it seemed indeed . She pursed her lips, not saying any more.
However, regarding Wan Chu’er saying she was asking for favors, she hadn’t noticed how well the school people treated Wan Chu’er. As soon as they heard that Xiao Bai was coming to give a speech, they were so pleased they couldn’t close their mouths.
Thinking about Xiao Bai’s situation, Jiang Lingling’s eyes twinkled. She hadn’t seen Xiao Bai for a long time, and it seemed like Wan Chu’er would still be busy with this matter for a while. Then she would just put up with it more and make sure to stay close to Wan Chu’er.
Things went more smoothly than she thought. Since it was a technical school, they had a favorable impression of Hailang Technology. Plus, Jiang Xiaoxiao had marketed Xiao Bai well, so the school was more than willing to have Xiao Bai come to speak.
The initial victory boosted Wan Chu’er’s confidence greatly, and with renewed vigor, she went to two more universities and settled the speaking arrangements with them.
After securing these, she called Xiao Bai, asking him to free up three evenings.
Xiao Bai didn’t say much, just agreed. When he heard that Wan Chu’er had already prepared his speech, he had no problem with it at all.
That very night, Wan Chu’er sent the speech to Xiao Bai, asking him to peruse it whenever he was free.
When Xiao Bai saw Wan Chu’er’s speech draft, he was not only relieved from his previous anxiety but also inspired by the contents. He started to take the upcoming university speeches seriously.
