Chapter 372: Chapter 372

Wan Chu’er was once again moved by Jiang Kechu’s words. She had always been someone who responded better to kindness than harshness. After being touched by his words, she quickly forgot her earlier displeasure and thoughtfully said:

"No worries, I didn’t feel wronged. I already retorted back on the spot. I’ll take good care of our children at home. If you need anything, just give me a call."

Jiang Kechu still drove Wan Chu’er back to the old house, but he didn’t go in again and returned directly to the hospital.

When he arrived at the hospital, he didn’t see Jiang Lingling, who probably feared him and slipped away. Lin Jiayi remained silent, clinging to Jiang Lirong with a worried expression, and Simon was also nowhere to be seen.

Jiang Kechu glanced around, hummed, and didn’t say anything.

Even though he didn’t speak or explode about what had just happened, his silence was more frightening, causing the air in that area to grow even colder, as silence enveloped everything.

Mrs. Jiang couldn’t hold back and softly asked her son, "Why didn’t you get the marriage certificate with Xiao Chu?"

Although everyone else was staring straight ahead, the place was so silent that even a needle dropping could be heard, let alone Mrs. Jiang’s voice. Everyone perked up their ears.

Jiang Kechu calmly said, "Grandpa’s situation is important." It was apparent he didn’t want to say more, but his words admitted that he indeed hadn’t gotten the marriage certificate with Wan Chu’er.

The Jiang Family members all had complicated thoughts momentarily, but they were thinking that even if there wasn’t a certificate, they had already given birth to two children with the Jiang Family. How could Wan Chu’er escape? It’s just a certificate.

Mrs. Jiang nodded, patted her son’s hand to show her apologies, feeling it truly was an unlucky time; her son’s marriage had been quite a roller-coaster ride, and she hoped that Mr. Jiang would be okay and recover soon.

At the old house, as soon as Wan Chu’er entered the courtyard, she heard the two little ones crying their hearts out, so she hurried in, heart aching as she shouted:

"Hunter, Little Chuanqi, Mommy’s back."

Unexpectedly, upon hearing her voice, the two little ones cried even harder. Mr. Jiang glared at the entering Wan Chu’er, "In the future, stop calling them Hunter and Chuanqi; the children don’t like it."

Wan Chu’er took Hunter from Mr. Jiang’s arms and said, "They do like it. They obviously like it very much."

Li Shan spoke for Mr. Jiang, "If they liked it, how come they cry harder when you call them?"

"They’re just excited," Wan Chu’er retorted stubbornly.

Mr. Jiang waved his hand for her to stop bickering and quickly feed Xiao Zhuo and Xiao Ya.

Wan Chu’er huffed at Li Shan and, carrying the child, walked away with Mrs. Zhu following behind.

The two little ones finally quieted down again after being fed, and Wan Chu’er felt much more at ease. Mrs. Zhu gently asked, "Did you get the certificate?"

Wan Chu’er shook her head and said, "Grandpa Jiang is in a coma and still being resuscitated in the hospital, so we didn’t have time."

Mrs. Zhu expressed surprise with an "Ah," then after thinking for a moment said, "It’s okay not to get it now. Without any official ties, you won’t have to tire yourself out running back and forth, being the dutiful grandchild. Just show your face every few days."

Wan Chu’er was momentarily stunned, not expecting the always-kind Mrs. Zhu to say such a thing, then she laughed and replied, "You’re right!"

Mrs. Zhu was indeed astute and understanding.

Mrs. Zhu then asked Wan Chu’er what she wanted to eat before heading to the kitchen to cook.

Wan Chu’er looked at the two sleeping babies, changed into her loungewear, and went out to find Mr. Jiang again.

Walking out the door, she saw Li Shan squatting under a tree watching ants. Wan Chu’er couldn’t help but smirk; who would have thought that the usually cold and imposing Li Shan would love watching ants move so much?

"Brother Lishan, help keep an eye on Hunter and Chuanqi for me."

Li Shan didn’t even look up, saying directly, "It’s Jiang Erzhuo and Jiang Er Ya."

Wan Chu’er acknowledged with an "Oh" and entered the room where Mr. Jiang was. Upon entering, she found Mr. Jiang asleep in a recliner, so she stopped and stood from a distance.

Mr. Jiang had truly gotten old, often falling asleep just sitting there. A doctor had come to check him and said it was a normal phenomenon as people age, but Wan Chu’er still worried.

She noticed that since returning from abroad, Mr. Jiang’s condition had deteriorated significantly. He hardly went out anymore, always staying in the old house. His appetite wasn’t as good as before, he ate less, and his spirit wasn’t as strong as before, though he had become a lot kinder, often watching Hunter and Little Chuanqi affectionately for hours.

Wan Chu’er felt a pang of sadness, thinking she must spend more time with Mr. Jiang in the future and stop her constant rushing around.

With Grandpa Jiang falling ill, the matter of her and Jiang Kechu’s marriage would surely be delayed. It was just as well; she wouldn’t have to move to the Jiang Family and could stay at the old house with the children, accompanied by Mr. Jiang.

In the evening, Wan Chu’er received a call from Jiang Kechu informing her that Grandpa Jiang finally came out of the operating room. The doctor said that although the cerebral hemorrhage was successfully treated, Grandpa Jiang might be paralyzed and bedridden in the future.

After comforting Jiang Kechu with a couple of words, Wan Chu’er hung up and informed Old Sir Zhong of Mr. Jiang’s condition.

Old Sir Zhong remained calm, saying only, "Seems like your wedding with Jiang Kechu will have to be postponed. Postponed or not, at least you can spend more time with me at home."

Not a word about Wan Chu’er visiting Mr. Jiang, indicating that the old man did not want her to get involved in the mess over there.

Wan Chu’er smiled and said, "Alright."

It is often said that a long illness tests filial duty, and indeed, when Grandpa Jiang was paralyzed for a while in his past life, although the Jiang Family hired caregivers, there were many things they had to do themselves.

It was manageable for a short while, but over time, Second Aunt Jiang and Third Aunt Jiang began to shirk responsibilities, avoiding appearances if possible. Mrs. Jiang, meanwhile, still had to care for the senile Grandma Jiang.

Jiang Lirong, who never really had to shoulder the burdens, would see her father wronged and complain to her big brother and younger brothers, reminiscing about their cherished childhood memories shared with their father and sighing about Grandpa Jiang’s kindness. This caused disturbances in every household for several days.

The family became noisy and chaotic because of this issue. Half a year passed, and whether angered or because of his tenacity, Grandpa Jiang’s limbs regained movement, allowing him to slowly take a few steps with a cane and get out of bed.

Second Aunt Jiang and Third Aunt Jiang were adamantly against bringing Grandpa Jiang home to their place, so Father Jiang brought him back to the courtyard, which steadied things down for everyone.

Wan Chu’er estimated that her and Jiang Kechu’s marriage would only be readdressed after Grandpa Jiang got discharged from the hospital.

So Wan Chu’er settled in at the old house to care for the children and accompany Mr. Jiang, occasionally visiting Mrs. Jiang and Grandma Jiang in the courtyard.

Sometimes she would encounter Second Aunt Jiang or Third Aunt Jiang complaining to Mrs. Jiang, but no matter how much they hinted or outright persuaded her to visit Grandpa Jiang in the hospital, Wan Chu’er remained unmoved. Once she got bored, she would have Jiang Kechu accompany her for a visit.
