Chapter 367: Chapter 367
Aunt Jiang’s expression froze for a moment, then she quickly smiled again, pretending as if nothing had happened, and laughed, "Yes, yes, yes, Ke Chu must miss the children too. I’ll hold them later, I’ll hold them later."
Wan Chu’er pretended not to notice, gave a couple of instructions to Jiang Kechu, then turned to speak with Li Shan.
Being ignored so blatantly, Aunt Jiang’s facade couldn’t hold up anymore. She gritted her teeth and leaned towards Mrs. Jiang, teasingly speaking with her.
Li Shan glanced at the baby, thinking: How can it be so small? It’s probably not even as long as his arm, will it grow up to be short?
Wan Chu’er had no idea what he was thinking. If she knew, she would definitely grab his ear and shout three times, "You’re the short one, your whole family is short!"
Li Shan withdrew his gaze and said, "The old man asked me to pick you up and bring you back to the ancestral home."
Wan Chu’er replied with an "Oh," and asked, "How’s the old man’s health?"
"Not too well," Li Shan replied.
Wan Chu’er was startled and hurriedly asked, "What’s wrong with my grandfather?"
"A month ago, he had insomnia. Yesterday, he ate one bowl less of rice, and today he got up an hour earlier. He was a lot more agitated in the morning," Li Shan stated flatly.
It was exactly a month ago when she had just given birth to Chuanqi and Hunter. Yesterday, before setting out, she had called the old man, and today she stepped onto Beijing soil with the baby.
"Brother Lishan, have you been corrupted by my second brother?" Wan Chu’er chuckled wryly.
To her surprise, Li Shan snorted disdainfully and stopped talking, reaching out to take the bag off Wan Chu’er’s back and walking outside.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Jiang, while holding Hunter lovingly, divided her attention to Wan Chu’er, and after seeing her finish speaking with Li Shan, hurriedly said with a smile:
"Xiao Chu, are you hungry? I’ve had your favorite dishes prepared at home. How about we go back to the compound first, have a meal, and then go to the ancestral home?"
She really couldn’t bear to part with her grandson and granddaughter, desperately wanting to keep the two little ones.
Wan Chu’er awkwardly chuckled twice, not expecting Mrs. Jiang to like the baby so much. Look at her, already playing these little tricks.
Jiang Kechu immediately stepped in to rescue Wan Chu’er, "Mom, Old Sir Zhong is still waiting for Chuchu and the kids."
Since her son spoke up, Mrs. Jiang couldn’t say anything else, impulsively saying, "You two hurry and get married!"
Jiang Xiaoxiao couldn’t help but laugh. She hugged her mother’s arm and coquettishly said, "Mom, look how anxious you are. We’ll all go back home with Chuchu in a little while."
Mrs. Jiang finally cheered up again.
Hearing they were going to the ancestral home, Aunt Jiang’s eyes lit up. She might be able to see the old man! She got a bit excited and eagerly chimed in:
"Yes, yes, yes, let’s all go back with Xiao Chu and the kids. That way, we can spend more time with them."
Wan Chu’er glanced at Jiang Kechu, and Jiang Kechu put an arm around her shoulder, reassuring her.
As they got into the car, Wan Chu’er holding Chuanqi got into Li Shan’s car, with Mrs. Jiang naturally staying with Wan Chu’er, and Jiang Xiaoxiao sat in the front passenger seat.
Aunt Jiang, a step too late, was anxious. She said to Jiang Xiaoxiao, "Xiaoxiao, go ride with your brother. Aunt wants to see the kids too."
Jiang Xiaoxiao cleverly replied, "Aunt, I have to help my sister-in-law take care of the kids on the road. The kids are a bit shy with strangers, so it’s better if I’m here."
Unaware of the situation, Mrs. Jiang didn’t even lift her head and suggested, "Lirong, you should ride with Ke Chu’s car, it’s more spacious there."
Li Shan ignored her, closed the car door, started the engine, and was about to drive off.
Jiang Lirong had no choice but to unwillingly get into Jiang Kechu’s car. This nephew was really hard to get along with, always with a cold face, making people uneasy. Talking to him, he would only respond once every ten sentences. It’s really difficult to have a conversation.
Moreover, she wanted to build a good relationship with Wan Chu’er, and hopefully connect with Old Sir Zhong as well. Her husband had been transferred out of Beijing for three years, and this couldn’t go on. She needed to find a way to bring him back.
This matter was initially accomplished by Jiang Kechu. Asking Jiang Kechu to intervene again was impossible, and the eldest brother didn’t care about this issue. After much unsuccessful effort, she turned her attention to Old Sir Zhong.
She thought once the two families were united by marriage, there would be plenty of opportunities to meet. But unexpectedly, last year, the two, who were about to get married, suddenly broke off their engagement, ruining her plans. But unexpectedly, this year, things took a turn. Suddenly, two children appeared, and it seemed the marriage was still on.
Jiang Lirong also knew that Wan Chu’er wasn’t fond of her because of the issue with Jiayi before, so she wanted to make an effort to mend their relationship.
But these people just couldn’t see the situation, not giving her a chance. Jiang Lirong thought she still had to work harder on her sister-in-law.
The two cars drove out of the airport and headed towards the city. When they reached the city, perhaps because there were more vehicles, or due to some bad luck, they always ended up at a red light just as the car in front passed through the intersection, forcing Jiang Kechu to stop and wait.
The more anxious Jiang Lirong got, the farther the distance between the two cars seemed to grow, almost to the point where they couldn’t see the car in front anymore.
Jiang Lirong mustered the courage to urge her nephew, "Ke Chu, hurry and catch up with the car in front."
Jiang Kechu gave a noncommittal "hmm," but his speed didn’t change, his expression even colder, making Jiang Lirong not dare to urge him again lightly.
As they drove on, Jiang Kechu’s phone rang. He answered it with one hand, slowing the car down even more, almost making Jiang Lirong feel like jumping out and switching cars.
But seeing Jiang Kechu’s serious expression as he listened to the phone, she didn’t dare make a sound and could only silently pray that Jiang Kechu’s call would end soon.
Finally, Jiang Kechu grunted, hung up the phone, and before Jiang Lirong could feel happy, he hit the accelerator, turned the steering wheel, almost flinging Jiang Lirong out of the car.
By the time Jiang Lirong managed to steady herself in her seat, Jiang Kechu had already parked the car.
Why did they stop here?
Jiang Lirong quickly asked, "Ke Chu, why did we stop? Xiao Chu and your mom are still ahead."
Jiang Kechu, in a calm and serious tone, said, "Aunt, crossing one more street will bring you to your home. Please get out here. I got a call, and I need to take care of something else and may not be able to visit Old Sir Zhong."
Jiang Lirong was dumbfounded and quickly said, "Then tell me Old Sir Zhong’s address, I’ll take a taxi there myself."
Jiang Kechu frowned slightly and said, "Old Sir Zhong has a special status, and his address can’t be casually disclosed." Having said this, he got out of the car, walked to where Jiang Lirong was sitting, and opened the door, motioning for her to get out.
Watching as Jiang Kechu’s car quickly disappeared, Jiang Lirong was so angry her liver hurt, but there was nothing she could do except bitterly return home.
